If amazon exclusively only sold amazon products - this would then make perfect sense...

BUT amazon is firstly an online shopping store and secondly a company that develops its own products...

They should stop selling all other tablets, because they are not fully compatible with amazon apps, and certainly not compatible with amazons app store...

Amazon just dont have confidence in their product and need it to succeed because prime has become a be source of their income

This is a mistake that will likely play out poorly for Amazon in the future. They are blatantly engaging in anti-competitive behavior.
You do realise that there is nothing "anti-competitive" about not selling a competitors product, do you?
Like....Apple not selling rokus, BMW not selling Chevys, or walmart not sellign targets homebrand...

THANK YOU! Folks are so bias it's not even funny.

Also what about Pebble and other smart watches that Apple stopped selling when they released the watch?

LOL, do you people seriously not understand the difference between a manufacturer who sells their own products along with a small selection of complementary products and an online retailer who sells almost everything? It's not hypocrisy or bias. They are two completely different business models. That being said, at this point nobody here has any real idea what the story is from Apple and Google. Are they really banning Amazon content or is Amazon just not building an app that conforms to either of the two platforms? Can't really make a judgment either way until that info comes out. As for comparing though, to think that Apple not selling Androids is the same thing as Amazon not selling ATV is just idiotic.

Who said anything about Android? My example - which you quoted - was about pebble and other smart watches, and the original poster was talking about Bose speakers. These are things that Apple used to sell but took out when they created their own competing line.

But you raise a good point, I don't think any of us understand the 'it's complicated' relationship between Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and other giants; the lines have blurred so much

who says that "almost anything" has to include chromecast and apple tv?

the business model for both companies is very simple and that is to look after their own interests the most and every year they are willing to take one step further. its completely irrelevant how much physical space they have, what we believe they are meant to do etc.

and this last sunday i got an email to notify me of changes amazon uk is making with regards to which courier they use. that decision can increase the shipping cost and impact the purchaser/importer when it comes to dealing with customs paperwork. so i am certainly no fan of many of their actions.

As a reason for the removal, Amazon is citing compatibility with its Prime Video streaming service, which is not available on devices from Google and Apple.

So I guess Apple told them that a Prime Apple TV app would be rejected.

or wait no they didn't. Amazon is going to use this as a stunt to try to sell more FireTV. cause you can bet if you try to search Apple TV, their own hardware will come up at the top of the page

I don't think it is a matter of Amazon not wanting to make an App for the AppleTV. It is Apple not allowing them to publish it. Apple sees Amazon as a direct competitor to iTunes... and they are.

And you don't think that Amazon sees Apple as their direct competitor and would want to keep the app off the Apple TV so that they can sell more Fire Sticks

That's pretty sweet. Now they just need Apple movies, own over 60 of them.
That would be cool but I seriously doubt Apple will ever allow that to happen. You've bought deeply into the Apple content ecosystem (I did the same thing with iTunes music); with the exception of iTunes on Windows PCs, you'll likely always need Apple hardware to enjoy those movies you purchased from Apple.

Why do you guys care so much and take any perceived form of slight against Apple personally?

I couldn't care less if Apple, Microsoft, Amazon et al were slugging it out in the street. This is what all companies do - it's called 'business'. Some of you have a lot of growing up to do.

I'm not usually one to comment on things, but I felt the need to this time. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but from my understanding, Amazon wants users to have the option to purchase/rent digital content from them as well. From what I understand, even on the iOS apps, users are only able to access Prime content and if they wish to rent/purchase content, they must do so from a browser and then access it from the app.

True, they could just create an app like they have for iOS, but as long as your can Airplay the content, I don't see what the big deal is. Sure, it would be more convenient to have an app, but it's still possible to access your content.

Clearly we don't have the full story, but Amazon, I think, has usually been one play nice with others, so I do think that for them to pull a move like this, Apple must have been unwilling to compromise on something.
