I was shocked. Never saw that coming, and just don't understand why they bothered. If they were going to kill Beth, why waste so much time on the hospital arc?

The way they did it made me wonder if the actress is busy with another role or they just didn't think she really fit with the direction of the show at this point. It seemed like a hasty way to kill someone off.

Actually, if you watched Talking Dead, the actress said she didn't even know she was getting killed off until filming the episode before.

I think the reason why they love killing off beloved characters is to keep the audience shocked and on the hook for how ever the story evolves.

I think they were asking if anyone besides Noah joined Rick's party. Which, doesn't seem to be the case.

I had to rewind myself to catch that Noah did actually go with them. No one else seems to have, but that certainly doesn't mean that we've seen the last of the Grady bunch.

If the comics are any guide, we will still go on a road trip and see more of the world. Kirkman implied that we will meet a prominent gay character in the second half of the season on Talking Dead.

The events of the cannibal attack by the Hunters which inspired the Terminus cannibals were in Volume 11: Fear The Hunters. Two prominent gay characters appear in the comic books up to Volume 16: A Larger World both are new, lasting, prominent characters if they don't stray from the comics too much. It all depends how fast they want to move.

Yeah, just like in the comic book, existing characters must die even when you least expect it.

Talking Dead mentioned that a gay character from the comic book will be making an appearance which can only mean one thing!

No one is sacred...

Very interesting episode tonight. I must say I'm kinda disappointed in the whole Beth/hospital storyline. Maybe I just didn't pick up on the clues, but I don't feel like I really understand what happened there at all. I get that Beth sacrificed herself in the end, but was it worth it? With the Governor and Terminus it was pretty easy to tell "the good guys from the bad guys", but the hospital situation was so ambivalent that I don't know what's what. Maybe that was the whole point; I'm not sure.

Beth acted on her conviction and emotions. I was caught off guard, thinking she was going to spit in the police officers face or something. I was surprised by the attack, equally by her death.

I think when you are watching survival morality, different groups based on different group dynamics will develop different structures. The hospital group had serious issues, a continuing power struggle and losing sight of their former position in society, where individuals were allowed to abuse others, including sexual assault and involuntary conscription. Rick's group is much healthier, although I was surprised when he executed the officer.

Hopefully they move faster. Keep in mind that we're half way through season 5 now. I'm sure they'll have at least 2 more seasons but who knows beyond that.

You think TWD is bad, watch Game of Thrones or read the books.

If I view the comic as the main story thread, they will continue to make diversions such as the Atlanta Hospital to slow progress along that line. I don't remember Eugene confessing in the comic, was it before or after they make it to DC? If before DC, why continue on to DC, just because it's as good an option as any other?

Pretty much. That was the main driver as I recall in the book for them to join with Abraham and gang too.

Eugene's lie was discovered in the comics because he had a radio on which he was supposedly talking to high level folks in DC. When they approach DC, Rick discovers it has no battery and then Abraham beats the stuffing out of him. (The irony of course is that Rick has been talking to his dead wife on a wired telephone without any connection for a while now).

They then continue on toward DC as they are already most of the way there.

In the TV show, Gabriel's church seems much closer to Atlanta than in the comics. I would have guessed it was in the Carolinas or even Virgina from the book. So they will need a reason to move or they'll just relocate the next events to somewhere closer to Atlanta.

I'm starting to wonder if I skipped a comic episode.

I could see to save money, placing the DC scenario somewhere close to Atlanta as that is where the production is based, or use a few CGI shots to convince us they are in DC. :)

I really hope they get beyond Atlanta sooner than later. We've had season after season where they've been near Atlanta and hiding in the woods and we finally get them in downtown 5 seasons in. Though, there was the CDC in the first season. Either way, I think it's time we get on the road and get to the next major city outside of Georgia instead of adapting story arcs from the comic to fit the Atlanta scene.

Yep, last night's episode was good. I must say I didn't see that coming at all. I really thought they had already worked through all of that stuff with that specific character. I thought the way the episode was put together was masterful. The way scenes were put together and the misdirection involved was really cool.

How many of you who are watching the show are also watching "The Talking Dead" after? I don't always watch the aftershow, but when I do it reminds me how much the fans truly love this show and how passionate they are about the characters, story, etc.. It's also neat to get to see some behind the scenes stuff with the directors and producers they have on there.

I think we've discussed it before, but killing off popular characters is a double edged sword. ;) I have watched the Talking Dead on occasion. I always enjoy seeing the actors and hearing background info.

As much as I like the show, I do have to agree with you on why they bother wasting so much time on someone they're just going to kill.

For example, I didn't like how so much time was spent with The Governor in seasons 3 and 4 only to have both the town and the prison burn to the ground in the end.

From here on out, I hope they stop just killing people off, especially anyone who's been with the group from season 1 and 2, and actually get somewhere. What I'm really hoping to see is the group finally get out of Atlanta and see how the Morgan arc plays out. I'd love to see some more exploring of the zombie world instead of holing up and scavenging from place to place trying to survive.

We the audience did not know they were going to kill her.

I for one like the fact they are not afraid to kill people off. Yes this can have an adverse affect on your audience, but if you have read the book, no one is really safe. There are characters that are still alive currently that have been killed off in the show and vise versa.

With the exception of the core person(s) (rick and his son) everyone is pretty much fair game.

The Talking Dead is great. We DVR it (not last nights because it was on to late and the 0400 hour wake up comes really quick) and watch it every season.

Sad to see Tyreese go though.

EVERYONE is fair game. I'm behind in my comic reading, but I see the evolution of Rick getting older and... anything goes. Just wait for Andrew Lincoln's contract to be up or he thinks it's time to move on. :) :(

I agree to a point. I don't think they will move away from Rick just yet. But I have a feeling his time is coming in the books. I am curious if there will be anymore books if or when he finally does go!?

I hope for Andrew Lincoln that he doesn't get greedy or bored and wants to leave the show. I think the show would go down hill without him.

I assume that as long as the comics sell or the authors maintain their interest, TWD will continue.

For those who are reading the comic, is there another character who has emerged that could take the role of lead protagonist if they did decide to kill off Rick? I'm not sure how old Carl is in the comics so I don't know if he would be a natural fit for the new lead protagonist.

An interesting side note, I thought it was really cool that they used Andrew Lincoln as the voice of the radio broadcast in Tyreese's imagination during last nights episode. Speaking in his normal accent disguised who it was because I just wasn't paying that close of attention. When they mentioned it on Talking Dead, I was like, "oh yeah, that was him..."!

Another death that means nothing because it was so badly done. He survives all this time just to go into a house that isn't fully checked, gets distracted by a photo and doesn't hear the walker behind him. Yup, this is the same guy who fought off how many walkers with just a hammer.

He is older,,, teens. But there is a struggle going on internally right now that has Carl at the for front of it all.

Regarding the radio broadcast I was thinking it paid homage to "Night of The Living Dead". That is the first thing I thought of when I heard it. Didn't know it was Andrews voice! That is pretty cool.

Yes, the comic has Jesus. :) I did not notice the radio voice...

I thought they would start out with a much better episode then the last one.
