The writers are famous for a bait and switch, but I don't see how it's possible that Dayrl didn't get shot. I think Dwight muttered those words....after inflicting what he knew to be a non lethal wound to Daryl.
UNLESS...
Carol saves the day again and shoots Dwight before he shoots Daryl! Ha. I'd be pretty disappointed in that bail out.

I kind of wondered if he sewed some type of gun into his clothes facing backwards, like Carol did in her coat sleeve. I figured this since Dwight seems to always come up behind Darryl. Though, admittedly that's a bit of a stretch for Darryl I think.
I played that scene back in slow motion and Dwight's gun was the one that went off and Daryl was the one that got shot around the upper/mid-torso area with blood splatter coming out onto the camera. Then it was Dwight saying "You'll be alright". Not quite sure where they can go with that, but I guess we'll see (hopefully next week and not 3 episodes into the next season).

If you watched the previews, it was Darryl laying in the road at the feet of whoevertheyare as they make demands, I assume for access to Alexandria. Ok, not completely safe to say, but I feel he was the one shot.
The only thing that's bad about this at the moment is Denise, the late doctor by circumstance is no longer there as well. So how will Daryl survive with a bullet wound with no medical care? I mean there's the Hilltop doctor, but they are currently held hostage by the Saviors.
Even with 90min, there is too much going on and open arcs to cram into a 1.5 length episode season finale. The real question is what can they save until season 7?

It's been said before, but I (and others0 really hate cliff hangers at the end of the season. Too long to wait.

Surely more questions and cliffhangers to mess with our minds. With so many loose ends, there's endless possibilities!

Denise Huth clearly said on Talking Dead that we will find out what happened to Daryl in the finale.

Unfortunately. I think we will see Negan taking swings and killing someone in the finale, but we might not actually find out who it was at the other end of Lucille until S7 starts in the fall.
If you look closely at the trailer for the finale, it almost gives the appearance that we will see it from the character's POV. Negan is parading around with Lucille and either making his pick or either made it when the screen turns red.
This could be similar to how they were gagged and tied at Terminus, but instead we just see everything from each character's view, not necessarily showing how they are placed in relation or proximity to each other during Negan's eenie meenie miney mo selection process.
