My friends got me going on this stuff....

I didn't watch it on TV but I checked it out on the website.

I think that even though one may win, the other will still get some sort of record contract. Didn't that happen before when someone who came in close still got a record contract?

I think pretty much everyone in the top 10's going to get a record contract. Heck, last year's third place finisher is probably now the most popular.

season 1...kelly gets contract and sells extremely well, justin does a record but sales are so-so, but respectable

season 2...ruuuuben gets the contract but 2nd place singer clay sells more albums

season 3...fantasia goes platinum

season 4...carrie underwood goes platinum

season 5...i think the taylor has yet to prove his full rockstar potential, but i think he will do just fine

...and of course, we all know about jennifer hudson and chris daughtry...they are the idol stars of the moment and basking in a lot of glory and spotlight...and neither won or got into the finals

kellie pickler had a decent country hit, josh gracin did ok in that genre, and bucky covington has a hit

heck, even william hung sold nearly 200,000 units, but maybe as gag gifts, but it's william who laughed all the way to the bank...he is reportedly a millionaire from both his record sales and numerous national level personal appearances

american idol is a hit making machine and will prolly go on for a few more years with great success

For the most part only 3 idol stars have been a big success, Kelly, Carrie, and Daughtry.

being a musician who had very little success in 20 years...only a college radio hit, and no sales, i totally respect a musician if they even sell 50,000 units...that's not easy, especially for the indie set

and when someone goes gold, 500,000 units, it's a pretty big deal in a field where 85% percent of all signed artists lose money on their records

...all the idol winners have done that or better, even going platinum which is 1 million units, or double platinum which is twice that and all the runner ups have gone gold at least and some 3rd place and later winners have done gold and platinum

so it's really hard to call, a finalist from any season in the top 12 or so who "only" goes out and sells 500,000 copies and somehow not consider them a success...where would that idol be without the show and the nationwide exposure?

Im glad she won, for the most part this was a good finally finale. Went a little long but it was entertaining.

Ya know- it was pretty fun. I liked that they brought the bush baby guy back on too. That was pretty cool. Those guys seem like they've been having fun since they were first on.

I don't remember them jam packing the finally finale last year, it seemed like they went all out this time.

Tony Bennet stole the show.

OK, not to be a total picky prick, but it's "finale", not "finally". ;) "Finally" is what you say when you "finally" leave your parents house. :)

And yes, the show was pretty good.

jordin deserved to win, shes got a great voice. it was a little strange she was the only idol not dressed in black and silver at the end. its almost as if they knew she would win.

i dont feel sorry for blake tho. he'll do fine I'm guessing. :)

I don't normally watch AI but decided to a bit this evening. I had to turn it off once Bette Midler began performing. Not a good night for her. She was so horrendously flat at times, I thought I was going to cry. :( Oh well. We all have bad days.

During The Beatles piece, Ruben Studdard was EXTREMELY flat. I could not stand listening to him butcher such great music, and as such, I turned it off.

I too am glad Jordin won. She will go on to a great career, I'm sure.

Last night's finale however, was in my opinion, a ridiculously overblown self-promotional circle jerk, the low point of which was having Clive Davis come out on stage to brag about how many albums they've sold.

Also, the "Golden Idol Awards" were simply another opportunity to exploit the pathetic losers who still haven't caught on to how they're being made fun of.

And lastly, Kelly Clarkson sucked big time last night.

Sorry for the rant, but I couldn't help myself.

If I were Blake I'd be happy to lose. Winning means he can't make the music he wants, he'd make the music 19 Entertainment wants him to make... which based on the song they were forced to sing as their first "single", is a bunch of crap. And you could tell Blake did NOT like that song.

I got the feeling Blake wanted to lose, to tell you the truth. If I were him and got handed that POS song, I'd want to lose too.

Blake will go onto better things, Jordin deserved to win for sure.

She has a great voice for someone her age, imagine when she gets to perfect it and when it's edited.

Don't forget that Jordin is still only 17 and sings like a pro, with the right producing she could have a long lasting career.
