I like it how Elliot from last season basically came out and schooled them in how to sing.

While I do too, that is usually a sign of jumping the shark imo.

This season was a bad one, I feel I don't know any of them really and honestly none should win cause AI didn't do it's branding job and the winner could get short changed in the long run.

Well we now know that Jordin will win.

No Doubt

Jordin has it, as long as she doesn't do the same kinds of songs she did this week.

I'm glad Melinda left. Now she can go make a butt-kickin record without Idol interference.

Yup. It's easy for us in the television audience to have that kind of clarity about how it is. I hope that, given her age (29?), she's mature enough to recognize that being The Winner of American Idol is not such a big deal, and that she'll just move on and make a hit record.

And I agree with everyone else -- it's Jordin's to lose at this point. I've actually thought that for several weeks now, although I did think that it would be Melinda in the finals with her instead of Blake.

Well, down to three.
Based on only singing, Melinda should win of the three, however this is a popularity contest as well.

I think because Jordin is prettier and younger than Melinda, she lasts longer.
And Blake will get votes for being the only guy and being cute for the teeny boppers.

So I think Melinda goes next week, then the final is Blake vs. Jordin and she wins.

But, yeah, the song selections from Barry Gibb were just awful - they all should have picked better ones.

Wow, I guess I was right :)

So now Jordin wins.

Whatever, they will all get record deals and do the AI tour, so its not a big loss at this point.

Actually American Idol or Fremantle Media owns those contestants for the next seven years.

here is a little article from 2004 about Simon Fuller the show's producer. It says he makes 25-50% from all Idol contestant's earnings.

i believe the two most talented singers...melinda and lakisha are now gone

it's going to be two people with maybe lesser talent, but no less x-factor

they both have a good, media friendly vibe about them and both can be stars

it will be interesting since they are both pretty equally matched up with maybe jordin having the better voice and blake the better showmanship

even with the teeny girls on blake's side, i think jordin will pull off a slight win, votewise, since i think she has the better voice, or has been better singing this season

jordin can grow into a much better singer and win or lose, she has some future in the music business

The thing I don't like about Jordin is that she's been in singing competitions her whole life. I know that's not really fair to judge her by that, it just bugs me. Its like her whole life is preparing her for idol.

The thing to remember here is that the best voice does not always win -- there is a 'popularity' factor at play. While I think Melinda has an amazing voice -- the best on the show this year by far -- she doesn’t really have a ‘youthful’ image. As the field shrank the ‘youth’ vote stopped being split and I think Melinda had an older demographic that stuck with her, the sheer number of the youth vote surpassed Melinda’s demographic. The same for Sanjaya - early on he had a specific demographic and as other competitors fell by the wayside there votes did not go to Sanjaya but other more deserving performer! And with Chris, it was just a matter of him showing that he wasn’t as good a singer as some of the other guys.

A similar thing happened last year with the popular vote going to Taylor -- he has a good voice but limited in style and type of song that he can do well -- but he was older and got the older vote, had personality which got him the younger votes and I think Simon not liking him helped pull in the votes. Also, Catherine did not really show strong originality or personality -- a great voice though. Nearly a year later and 2 finalists are less successful than Chris Daultry who is just smoking the charts and doing performances all over -- a well deserved success I think as he showed originality, was talent and did not faulter from being the singer he is-- and I think he will remain the most successful of the season 5 finalists. Probably a good thing he didn’t win.

So, I think it will be a close one this year -- with both finalists showing the potential to be successful ‘pop’ singers. I think Blake will have a strong future in production as well as he seams to show a good sense of musical arrangement and adaptation. Wonder if he can write (songs that is, not write in general as I am sure he can do that!). But I think Jordan will win unless she completely screws the pooch with her live performance. But I don’t think I will buy any of her music -- the only Idol I have purchased music from in the last 3 years is Daultry - a good album all things considered. I may buy something from Melinda if she releases something along the lines of ‘Aretha vs Tina vs Martha’ (no, not Martha Stewart you fools) And I wouldn’t be surprised if Melinda doesn’t steal the finale with a kick-ass duet with Tina Turner (like Daultry did with his performance last year)

Did you notice who showed up to the final three's homecomings?

Melinda had the members of her church turn out. It was actually a bit embarrasing when compared to the other two. It was really no surprise that she went home.

Jordin had her entire high school and a number of random people who happened to be in the area at the time of shooting.

Blake had every 9-13 year old girl within a 1500 mile radius beating on his car, screaming and crying.

Now ask yourself who has the biggest voting block. My wife and I will sit on the couch and critique these guys all day long but we aren't going to pick up a phone and vote. Your average high school student probably wouldn't be caught dead voting for American Idol. But the 11 year old with the Bratz t-shirt and glitter hair spray? She has every cell phone in her house lined up and is alternating between calling and texting on each one.

Blake wins by a landslide.

I didn't see Jordin's homecoming, but yeah, I saw Melinda's and I agree with your assessment. They were trying to do a lot of clever camera work to make her audience appear bigger that it was, but you could tell that there just weren't a lot of people there (especially as compared to the turnout for Blake).

being more than 2 1/2 times her age, i think her "whole" life in competitions still does not seem like a long time at all...really, so what?

jordin, at most, is just past puberty (where were you at 17? on a national level in singing or anything else?)...the fact is that jordin is very young by any standard, and for her to be good, whether she be a lifer in singing contests or michael jackson's sister, is still irrelevant in light of her being in singing competitions all her life

jordin is very close to the best and most poised singer in america who happens to be a minor who still has to take high school level classes through a tutor on off times between idol shows

she deserves a few hundred thousand votes just for her bravery for being a finalist and being so young

if it were five years from now, she would decimate blake, but as it stands, it's prolly a much more close competition because blake has the guts and originality factors on his side

I don't know if its fair to judge by what you saw on TV. None of us know how much effort was put into organizing and promoting the homecomings by the individual communities.

On the other hand, I do agree that Melinda's age may have been a factor in the voting. Still, for me, Melinda was unquestionably the best singer in the competition.

I know, your right... so what? I just said it bugs me. I'm not discounting the fact that she has a lot of talent for her age and no, I was not doing anything at a national level at 17, nor would I have wanted to. She is talented and hard working and I think she will take the whole thing.

She is talented and hard working and I think she will take the whole thing.

prolly so and i feel pretty sure, more sure hour by hour

if it was melinda vs. blake, i would put money, big money, on melinda to win

on some level, both blake and jordin should receive some "props" for the next few months just based on how far each got in this competition

it's not just tens of thousands, but hundreds of thousands who show up each season to get into this competition, and based on those numbers alone, it's an awesome achievement to even get into the top 12...heck, the top 100 for that matter

Blake showed tonight that he has no singing talent, Jordin should win easily. For the most part it was a dull show. The songs were not that great but Jordin pulled it out in the end.

Yeah, I agree. Blake's a great entertainer. He can perform, but Jordin can flat out sing.

What was with that wretched song they both had to sing? That was the best song they could find in the writing contest? UGH!

I think it'll be Jordin by a hair. Blake is a blast onstage, but I think she'll get it.

Here is what you have to ask yourself, If you were going to buy only 1 album, Blake or Jordin, What one would you rather listen to. While Blake is a good on stage performer, Jordin is the better all around singer and has more talent.

Agreed.
If Jordin's album was like Corrine Bailey Rae or Norah Jones, it would not be my first choice, but listenable.
Blake could be good, but it might be like Vanilla Ice meets Maroon 5.
