All of the guys had a bad night. No standout performances in my book.

It was interesting to me that after the guys' performances last night, the judges were pretty much unanimous in thinking that only four (of the remaining seven) guys deserve to stay in the competition at this point. I'm assuming that Chris (Sligh) and Sundance are two of those four, but I wonder who the other two are? They (the judges) seemed kind-of lukewarm on all the others.

I believe there was eight guys... And the four I can think of were Chris Sligh, Chris Richardson, Blake Lewis and then maybe Brandon Rogers or Jared Cotter

if the show is "American Idol" how can they keep someone like Antonella who takes wet t-shirt pics in the World War II memorial and not throw her off.
That isn't the problem, the fact that she can't sing is the reason why she should not be on the show.

Farce!!

Fact of the matter is that American idiot is not a singing contest as much as it is a popularity and beauty contest with singing involved.

Furthermore, the results appear to be influenced. On some, the judges will go out of thier way to not criticize no matter how bad they suck, and other contestants will get slammed for minor ( comparatively speaking ) errors.

I think LaKisha or Melinda should win, but I doubt it will happen.

Max.

Umm...so you thought Rueben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, and Clay Aiken were pretty? Well, maybe Clay- even though he resembles KD Lang these days. :)

Oh, i agree with you that she sucks ass... but how can she consider herself an "idol" when she defaces a national monument like that?

I don't consider anyone in the music industry to be idols.

Not that I'm comparing any past or present american idol winner as an "idol", but a lot of people do look up to people in the music industry. John Lennon was very influential. Bob Dylan, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Bono, Madonna are other people in the music industry that at some point in time were "idols" to many people.

Little kids are very impressionable, and they look up to a lot of people. Just because, you and I know that these people aren't worth our respect... that doesn't mean that the 12 year old girl who watches the show doesn't.

Too Funny...

Actually, there were some that stayed on the show that should have been booted earlier than later. Furthermore, those that really should have made it further. Chris Daughtry is a case in point. Ace / Chicken Little both should have left early on.

I don't think there's any question that the judges tend to pick their favorites fairly early on, but (as the judges often point out) it's really up to the audience to phone in and vote for their favorites. When you say, "the results appear to be influenced," are you suggesting that Idol is "fixed"?

P.S. I don't really care about this, it's just 4:20 in the afternoon and I know that all of my truly productive work is over for the day.

The show is fixed from the start, they only want hot attractive people that will bring drama to the show. Out of all the people that audition they don't take the most talented but those that will get people to watch.

I would bet that they have talent scouts there at the auditions to find the best people and sign them right away.

OK, I'll bite- prove it.

Think about it, if they had the most talented singer on American Idol it would be so once sided that it would be funny. They want these kids to battle for the spot. If the best singer right out of the gate out sings everyone then who is going to watch the show. I heard that the producers don't take the best talent because they want the kids to grow as the show goes along.

With a conspiracy-oriented mindset like that you could do well in the Politics forum. ;)

They purposely find kids that can't sing so that the really good ones shine better. They know that the bad kids will stay because they look hot. If this was a real competition would they really have Paula Abdul as a judge.

and Taylor Hicks and Reuben were pretty??

I never watched the show until this season, but my wife has gotten me into it.
Mostly because it is an easy way to douse the brain after a crazy day of work. (This whole daylight savings thing is a pain in the neck)

Anyway, it is a popularity contest, much like any vote. That does not mean some of these guys can sing.

I missed the girls last week, so I don't know any names.

For the guys,I think Chris and Chris should go on, as should Brandon Rogers and Blake Lewis.

Of the other four, Sundance reminds me of the guy from the Commitments, loud, fun, great at a bar, but not necessarily the best.

Last night at least, Jared Kotter was like Don "No Soul" Simmons from Amazon Women on the Moon. C'mon argyle? He should be singing on cruise ships.

Phil looks like Boy George, sings like Steve Perry's brother. He needs to go.

Sanjaya? He should have been booted way before AJ. He needs to go.

I have noticed that some that should have gotten the wrath of Simon were treated with kid gloves, and others that did not deserve a thrashing would get one. In both cases, the audience would respond with their votes to save the player. The comment that will lead to a singer's termination is "That was forgettable." which usually is eventually true.

Melinda had the best performance of the night, tonight. LaKisha did fine, but this was not as good as she usually is. Gina did a great job tonight, probably her best performance so far -- I'm just worried that her rocker image may not be mainstream enough to take her all the way.

I'm guessing that Antonella and Haley will go home tomorrow night.

On this we agree 100%!

OK, tonight was OK except for two things- Sanjaya is still there and Sabrina should not have gone home. I am happy that Antonella is gone and I won't miss Sundance either, but come on- Sabrina? That was a shame.
