I think any judgement of drug use should be limited to the decision to start. The power of addiction can easily escalate beyond a person's will to quit. Her lifestyle was destructive, no doubt, but she was someone's daughter and now she is dead. No joy should be derived from that.

Given the way she lived her life, I'm not surprised by this. I feel bad for her family who lost her at such a young age.

Mentally prepared myself for this news but it's still sad. May she rest in peace.

Ill never understand people who go out of their way to be crass towards someone's death. Remember that karma always finds it's way back to you.

I don't get why people are saying she didn't have talent and are putting her down by asking what she did... well, didn't she win 5 Grammys? I believe that's an accomplishment that none of us here have achieved. I didn't care for her, but I am not going to bash someone who lived a trouble life.

Damn--I had no idea those past legends all died at 27. I made reference in an earlier post to Janis who I knew died in her 20s, but that is amazing that all of them died at 27--not even sure what to make of that.

She was facing the dead-(whoops)-line of September 14, when she would have turned 28.

I can't image that she fancied herself in that august company.

Very sad. I remember seeing videos of her from her past when she was full figured and healthy looking. So much talent....wasted. :(

That said, this will probably make her a legend (even though no one has seen anything worthwhile from her in over a year) and an idol the misguided will look up to.

She did go so far as to make a song about refusing to go to rehab...

A quote from Amy W which says a lot about her and coincidentally quite a lot about some posters in this thread:

It seems particularly poignant now to recall that in an interview with Harpers Bazaar magazine last October, when asked whether she had any unfulfilled ambitions, Winehouse replied: "Nope! If I died tomorrow, I would be a happy girl."

"Live fast, die young."

I have a grudging respect for her, given that Society is full of people telling, or even forcing, you to live your life to their liking!

Society does not own your body, but more and more laws are being passed to the effect that they think they do.

Suicide being one, abortion being another.

Very sad news - she was one of the most talented singers for generations, but her self destructive nature meant she paid the ultimate price at far too young an age. RIP Amy - you'll be missed :(

Given the bona fide tragedy in Oslo, does anyone really care about Amy Winehouse? I mean it's sad for her family and everything but meh...

Yes there are and it's a bit insensitive to think that there's no room to grieve for both. Didn't realize there was a hierarchy for sad events.
