Threads like these usually quickly kill incentives being given out as soon as management gets wind of what's happening after numerous people start calling in asking for free items.

Threads like these spread word of Apple's excellent customer service which, with unprecedented hardware delays, is currently particularly relevant.

Why shouldn't Apple smooth out their customers' experiences? Don't you think Apple has done a cost-benefit analysis? Apple will be more profitable if it keeps customers happy - they know this and have done the financial calculations.

i called apple and i was being honest i said i was reading on forum about people getting free super drive and is it possible for me to get it too ? as i waiting for 2 weeks to get my macbook pro ,apple rep didn't take any time and said sure .. and i was off phone in two minutes...

Solid.

It took quite a bit of complaining for me to get mine :/

In all honestly, i sat at 4 days at "preparing at shipment" Now I'm going to miss the delivery because of a July 4th vacation :/

Jealous of all the people getting free items! These things never seem to work for me. The coupon i got is better than nothing, but its just a temptation to spend more money at the Apple store! Hmmmm....maybe i need a 27 ACD to go with my Rmbp......

Called Apple Denmark, where I ordered my base RMBP, and asked if I could get a free SuperDrive like you guys (a bit awkward asking about that, but anyway...) The guy didn't know anything about Apple giving free stuff, so I send him a link to this thread. Then he wrote an email saying, he couldn't give me a free SuperDrive unless the estimated delivery date expired.

So I'm kind of hoping it to get here later than expected. But I also want my MacBook to come to me ASAP.

Anybody else from Scandinavia that has tried the same thing?

While I have'nt tried to get any free swag I have been in touch with Apple here in Norway trying to get an answer to why people who ordered a day/two+ later than me already have their machine. But all I got was the "the standard delivery time is 3 to 4 weeks. Sorry" routine.
I am by no means angry at Apple or any representatives there!
If I see no movement on my order this week I'll give them another call and be more straight to the point and see what happens then :)
I also do NOT AT ALL EXPECT OR DEMAND to get anything free :)

sent 2 emails to complain about apple holding my funds for so long after canceling an order and reordering. Got no reply. So, i phoned up and made this clear that I wasn't happy first about the amount of time it took me to get my money back and the lack of response.

The indian rep was very nice and put me on hold. When she came back she said that once the RMBP had arrived I would be given a good will gesture depending on what I'm interested in. I just need to call her back once it's here!

I think its good that they are offering these small items for people spending the money they are..

I ordered mine and spend around $3,600..

I mentioned that I saw they were giving superdrives for free and they didn't budge.. :(

This is a funny topic. Apple is being very cheap to its customers. They should have called every rMBP buyer to thank her/him for helping them to increase their benefits margin and send them a more valuable gift such as refunding them the 3 years applecare ;). This is the least thing they can do, not because of the delivery delays, but because of the rMBP issues...

Offered Free SuperDrive!

Just got off the phone with Apple Care. I was perfectly honest to the rep with whom I spoke. I told the rep that I had heard people were being offered free Super Drives / Magic Mice as compensation for the long shipping times. I asked if there was anything he could do for me. Without hesitation, he offered me a free case, SuperDrive, or Magic Mouse. Chose the SuperDrive! It should be here on Monday. Ordered my rMBP 2.3/16/256 on 28/6.

Okay so I just got off the phone with Apple not too long ago. Here is my story. I called Apple to inquire about my order and see if I may get my computer any sooner since the shipping estimates were changed from "3-4 weeks" to "2-3" since I placed my order. My order consisted of a base model 13" MBP (for my girlfriend) and the 2.3/16/256 rMBP for myself. I received the 13" already but am still waiting for rMBP. The super nice Apple lady did not hesitate to change my shipping from standard to expedited at no additional charge (I didn't even ask, she offered after I asked her if my computer would arrive earlier since the shipping estimates changed). After she asked if there was anything else I can do I nicely told her "This is probably no longer the case but I figured I would ask you since it doesn't hurt to ask. I have heard from multiple people that have ordered rMPB's that they have received a free super drive or magic mouse with their order because of the long wait. Is this possible for me?" She placed me on hold to ask her manager, and after several minutes on hold (which I didn't mind) she came back and said that her manager approved to send me not one BUT TWO free magic mouses one for each of my computers! :) I though was VERY nice of them, since they didn't have to offer my anything free let alone TWO! If you call make sure you are nice and polite and maybe you will get lucky too!

I've had a similar experience...

I originally ordered my base model rMBP a couple of days after the WWDC. A day or so later it came to light that it isn't user upgradeable, so you can't add more ram like in previous MBP's. So I decided I would change my order to upgrade it to 16GB rather than 12 months down the line regret not doing it.

So I tried to call the rep I had initially dealt with over the phone, but she wasn't available. So spoke to someone else, a very nice American lady, my original rep was Irish :)
After trying to explain what I wanted to do she said they can't amend the order and I'd have to cancel and reorder. She advised I speak with my original rep to see what she could do. She finished the converation with something along the lines of 'let me know once you've got it sorted and I'll see what I can do to compensate you for the trouble'.

I kinda thought nothing of it as it wasn't really their fault, just me Mr Awkward customer changing my mind :)

Now after reading this thread I've emailed the American rep asking her, in a round about fashion, if there is anything she can do due to having to wait an another week on top of my original delivery date.
Laid it on thick though, as original order was due before I went on holiday. New order now likely to land while on holiday and possibly even after my birthday! :(

Lets see what happens...
(A free MBA would be nice ;) )

Just had an email from one of the Apple Reps I dealt with... They've credited £60 back to my credit card :)

My estimated delivery is 3-4 weeks for my rMBP.

Today, I called Apple and asked for an update on shipping time. They replied by giving me a free USB SuperDrive which is already processing for shipping!

What a great gesture from a stellar company!

I've called many times to complain about this extremely long wait time, while the new times keep getting shorter..and all the do for me is say it could change, and be patient. Wish I spoke with who you spoke with!

Just got my rMBP last week but had to wait like 3 weeks...think it's still worth giving it a shot AFTER I received my laptop?

I vote no. They fulfilled their end of the bargain, so what are you going to say? "I ordered this computer, with an advertised wait time of 2-3 weeks. Now, at three weeks, it's arrived. I love it! However, I had to wait three weeks to get it, so please give me free stuff."

But hey, ask away.

Just got off the phone.

Apple's costumer service it's just excellent, first, the guy offered me the fast shipping for free, then I asked if there was any compensation for the delay (since my order is 2-3 weeks and the webpage is showing 1-2 now), I said I'd like a discount if possible on a superdrive since I was going to buy one anyways (I really was going to).

He did not hesitate and said "Don't worry, I'll add one to your order, can you please give me 2 minutes?" I said yes. All of the sudden the call failed, and it did not pass 3 second when he returned my call saying "Sorry, call failed, but don't worry, your superdrive has been added to your purchase without any additional charge!"

I know a superdrive is almost nothing to apple, but its the service they give that matters to me. Anyways thats my experience!

I called and asked saying I heard of people getting free Superdrives and the rep told me he couldnt do anything unless he had order numbers to confirm... any of you want to back me up?!
Thanks!

Called and the woman I spoke to couldn't do the superdrive for me, but she did give me a free incase sleeve after saying I was "disappointed" that everyone was getting freebies except me.

She actually mentioned this site and said that people were "taking advantage" and that management had actually sent a notice out to not do it any more.

Ordered my MacBook yesterday but found out today I am going to need a CD drive for school, so I was looking on eBay for a cheap one til I came across this thread. Called Apple, told the representative my situation and he definitely gave me the impression like "oh great, another one asking for a SuperDrive?" But he was still very nice and offered me the drive at half price with free upgraded shipping. That was perfectly fine with me. It doesn't hurt to try, just be courteous.
