Anyone know if they will give anything away for free in retail apple stores? I'm waiting to receive a replacement for a defective one and I am going there to get my old computer looked at. I would call, but I have had so much trouble in trying to get a replacement that I don't want to deal with their phone customer service reps.

Darn! I paid for a superdrive and now they're giving this crap away for free?!? Would it be obnoxious to ask for a refund?!?

I called apple and said I heard you guys were giving away free SuperDrives for people that orderd RMBP, I told the rep I haven't ordered one yet but would still like the SuperDrive and she gave it to me. Free overnight shipping as well. What a great company. :)

Well, I tried and the only thing I could get is to get my shipping fees refunded so SuperDrive or Magic Mouse for me. He did say that if I don't get my computer before the 20th (last scheduled delivery date)to give him a call and they would give me something. Kinda bummed that the only fact that my computer isn't shipped is the fact that I decided to add 8gb of Ram to my 256GB rMBP, I had to call them and they had to cancel my firstr order to place in a new one, but that was not before they pushed the shipping to 3-4 weeks.

i called apple and i was being honest i said i was reading on forum about people getting free super drive and is it possible for me to get it too ? as i waiting for 2 weeks to get my macbook pro ,apple rep didn't take any time and said sure .. and i was off phone in two minutes...

I called. Apparently if you get the educational discount they won't give you any other free things...

I ordered through the edu store on the 13th. Called and got a free magic mouse and shipping fee waived due to the long wait times to ship. If you are nice to them they will do it.

Just bought a superdrive too because I found a good deal on it. Maybe I should call and try to get a magic mouse :)

I'm in the UK and seem to have had better luck than others.

I called up about the delay to my MacBook Air replacement (the first one arrived with a dent out the box!). They arranged the replacement and gave me assurance over the phone that it would arrive by the end of the week (today).

I called up yesterday and they said it won't arrive till Monday. They said it's impossible to speed up the shipping, so instead they credited my account with £50 as an apology for the delay. Not bad...

PS: This was ordered via HE Store.

Took me 2 calls and about 40 mins of discussing the issue with the reps, but I was finally able to get the superdrive added to my order, and my expedited shipping waved. Thanks OP!

called up and got a really nice lady who fully explained what was going on. After all that she expedited my shipping for free and offered a second magsafe2 power brick as well. Works great for me since it allows me to leave one charger at home and have one in my travel/school bag at all times!

I've ordered my Air BTO (fully charged and custom keyboard) at June 12th in France and after 3 days I saw the delivery was expected to be June 26th. And that was NOT an option for me as I was leaving the country June 22. So I've called Apple customer service and they told me the same thing : can't speed up the shipping. Rep asked me if I wanted something as compensation and I said NO, I just needed a solution! So I've sent an email to Tim Cook (yes!) explaining my problem and deception with the long delivery time to Europe. The day after, June 19th, I've got a call from Apple Ops chief for Europe saying that Apple's CEO had read my email and was very concerned! And she asked me : how can I help you to solve this? I replied: simple, I need my computer next friday, June 22nd, before leaving the country. She told me she was going to do her best. June 20th she called me back saying that my computer would be delivered the next day! End of the story: I've got my Air at June 21st afternoon! :D

So YES, they can improve and speed up shipping, at least for Europe!!!

They can, but probably at a very high cost to them. That was not a normal shipping process, I assure you.

I just got off the phone with them and basically told them the same thing. They put me on hold for about 3 minutes and came back saying they were giving me the superdrive free :) As Well as the waived expedited shipping I got already. Must be some big profit margins they have to work with :) Love apple customer service.

Just got my SuperDrive. Looks pretty nice and came really early. Can I just get my rMBP!?

I could use it on my Air, but I really have no use for it right now.

Thanks for throwing it in Apple :D

How were you able to email Tim Cook himself?!

I got denied. You guys that got the additional stuff ... did you get indian tech support or a US based rep? I seemed to get the latter and he pushed back when i asked for an upgrade. What time of day did you call?

Good for you a genuine reason and Apple came through, albeit with a big push from the top :apple:

hmm.... i called them and asked if there is anyway to speed up the shipping. The rep offered the exp shipping @ 19.99 (or something) so i passed on that. Afterwards, I straight up said that I saw on forums that people have been getting a superdrive for free. the rep said they don't do that. SOooo... I didn't get anything.
Note: i ordered via EDU w/ 2.3GHz-16GB. along w/ applecare.

perhaps I should call again and ask for something that's worth less in price like magic mouse or something...

Or maybe people should stop bothering them for free items without a valid reason.

Threads like these usually quickly kill incentives being given out as soon as management gets wind of what's happening after numerous people start calling in asking for free items.
