6 plus here. Difficult to use one handed? In some instances . Worth the trade off? Absolutely

All I can say is the sales (and returns) will tell the tale. If the 5S sells in higher numbers than previous old models did, then I won't be surprised if next year we see a 6s Plus, a 6s and a 6 nano/mini/air selling for about $50 less than the 6s.

Got my 6 last night, and...truthfully, I agree with the OP a bit. Even at 5.5", it's a tad large for me. In fact I'm glad I have 14-days to decide whether to keep it or buy a 5s.

I'll definitely say that the 6 is taking a bit of an adjustment to use one handed. My only issue is that I have a hard time reaching the top left corner app, which is my mail app, which I can solve my moving to a more accessible area I'm sure. I do think the 6 screen size is absolutely perfect for me, though. I'll just have to get used to adjusting its placement in my palm when I use it one handed. With two hands, this thing is a breeze and incredibly enjoyable to use. I find myself purposefully watching videos and reading things on it just because it's so nice to use.

I would have had no trouble adjusting to the 6. It's smaller than the galaxy I had. The plus is a bit of a learning curve. It's tough to get to the top left corner when I'm using it one handed.

The 5S and 5C are still available and hopefully when those get discontinued Apple will release a smaller version of its latest line for those that prefer the size of the older phones.
Personally I love the bigger sizes and am sticking with my Plus but I feel bad for those that don't find the bigger sizes as usable so are stuck with an out of date model to suit their needs.

I got the 6. Personally i think it's a TAD big. But maybe I just need to get used to it. 4.5 would have been perfect. I definitely would have hated the 6+. Thats just me.

Have to agree. I've moved from the iPhone4 so it is a fair jump. I did briefly consider the plus but ruled it out fairly quickly - but after using the 6 I wouldn't be surprised if I move to the plus in a few years time.

They're both a bit big, aren't they?

Let me state for the record that I've owned every single phone Apple has ever made. My friends would describe me as an Apple fanboy, so this is by no means hate from someone who hates apple, but after getting the 6 yesterday, I find it difficult to use. I absolutely cannot reach the top 1/4 of the phone without adjusting my palm; something I didn't have to do with my 5 or 5S. And once I do that, I can't reach the bottom without adjusting again. The two areas where navigation tend to be.

I remember when the 5 came out, Apple even ran an ad talking about they had designed a bigger screen that was still, you know, reachable by people, and that it was that attention to user experience that set them apart. I get why they made larger phones - people were demanding them and they were losing money to competitors with larger phones, but still.

And yes, there's "reachability," Apple's admission of guilt. Seems to me they were solving the wrong problem there.

You can pass on the "cool story, bro," I'm just asking a question. You might love your larger screen for a million other reasons, but it IS harder to use now, isn't it?

When you buy gloves, you have the choice of different sizes, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to hand, and that's not surprising that the bigger phones are now too big for some people.

I am 6'5" with large hands, and the previous iPhones were too small for me; it wasn't just a question of taste, but as you describe for yourself with the iPhone 6, I had to readjust the phone in my hand when reaching different areas of screen (not a problem of reaching far, but rather reaching close).
The iPhone 6 is actually the natural fit for my hand the way the iPhone 5 was probably the natural fit for yours.
(disclaimer: I am not saying that to feel good about my choice, I will actually be using a 6+, which is larger than the natural fit for me, but there are other things that matter)

So if we go in the debate of whether the iPhone 5 was too small, or is the 6 too big, we will never all agree until we all replace our hands with standard size bionics hands or something.

True. For me, I couldn't comfortably do everything one handed on a 4, and even less on a 5, so needing to be able to use a 6+ one handed was a non-issue. I just don't reply to a text or post on Facebook while I am carrying grocery bags or whatever, I wait 5 minutes until I have 2 hands free. If I want to play on my phone while I only have one hand free I use an app where I scroll and read or watch something. Of course, everyone has different lifestyles and needs but if you learned how incorporate an iPhone into the bulk of your day, you can probably figure out how to adapt to an iPhone 6 +.

Well I don't use my phone a lot, certainly not as much as others do. It is basically a convenient camera, something to use to listen to music with at the gym and also makes phone calls. I actually text more on my laptop than on my phone. It does feel a bit big, slightly smaller would've been nice. I am going to give it a good week before I contemplate trading it for a 5s.

Yes, I found the 6 to be a bit too big which is why I'm keeping my 5s for now and, instead of the 6, I purchased the 6 plus (subsidized). I use it mostly with two hands. I don't use the iphone as a phone much anyway. The extra screen size is great for the things I do most (maps, browser, games, video, spreadsheets, books). Love it.

I'll swap the SIM card if I ever feel the need to take the smaller 5s instead. And I sold my ipad2 which was wifi only...the 6 plus replaced it.

Man what a first world problem. Someone is complaining because he has difficulty handling his shiny new iPhone 6...

Is the iPhone 6 big? Yes, but the screen size isn't. Apple needs to work on getting rid of the huge top and bottom bezel.

I have large hands (thanks to my 6'2 height), and I initially thought it was too large to use one-handed too. The size increase was much more dramatic than the 5. However, I'm now getting used to it and have adjusted my grip and hand movements and I'm doing one-hand really comfortably. Might not work for everyone, but it does get better. The 6+ though...

I think the 6 feels a little big coming from the 5. I have used a Samsung note 2 in the past and I knew I did not want the 6+ for my phone. I use the device as a phone first and then email and texting and then all the other stuff. So for my purposes, the 6 was the best option. I am looking forward to getting the case on it as it does feel slipperier than the 5. I liked the square solidness of the 5.

I think it is a good size but I don't know that I would want it any bigger. I can use it fine and a lot of my android using friends are giving it a more serious look now because of the screen size increase.

A friend of mine got the 6 yesterday and let me play with it a bit. I felt like it was too big. Maybe it was because she had it in an otterbox. I suppose I'll have to get used to it eventually, but I might be holding on to my 5 a bit longer. 4.3 or 4.5 would have been better sizes in my opinion.

I hear you. I have the 4.7. It feels great in my hands... and yes so did the 5.5 when I got to play with one in store.

But its no longer as portable as it used to be. Remember cell phones getting smaller and smaller... from car bag phones to something you could fit in your pocket. I remember a coworker showing off the size of his new phone in 2002... because it was so small.(Yay flip phones!)

And now I have a 4.7. Feels nice in my hands, but does not fit in my pocket. Sure as long as I stand up straight. But if I sit I have to take it out. I'm an average size adult women who wears average looking pants/jeans. I suppose if I were a big guy wearing cargo pants all the time, a 5.5 wouldn't be a problem. I suppose I could carry a purse all day at work. But I won't.

In the meantime I am learning to adjust. Portability is part of the experience too. Its like DSLR cameras. They are big, and take beautiful shots. They blow the best smart phone camera away in terms of specs and quality. But what good is it if its too big to carry around?

This entire forum is full of first world problems... look at all the threads about UPS/Fedex deliveries, look at the threads about people who CHOSE to stand in line, or the people puffing up their chests with preference for 6+. This is probably a pretty tame thread compared to the hundreds of others.

You forgot all the people with feelings of inadequacy for having purchased the 6 Minus...

You should have definitely used it outside of a case. With an otter box case I guarantee you didn't get an accurate idea of the size.

I got a 6 yesterday and my hands still aren't adjusting to the phone, both the size and thinness. I am going to keep it for a week and see how it goes. If by Saturday I am still not comfortable with it I will go back to my 5 for now. The 6 is a great phone, but I think it may just be a little too large for me. And I also feel I need to use a case to get a good grip on it because of the thinness. And so far I haven't found a case that is grippy, offers full protection, and gets in and out of pocket easy
