Imagine my agony:

Back around March 10th (give or take a few days). I decided to go out for a round of golf. Brought my beloved iPhone 3G in the golf cart. We hit a bump going to the 4th hole that bumped the phone out and I didn't notice it was gone until after the 8th hole. We decided to go back and look around: nothing. I get home and check the call logs, and someone other than me had made 2 calls from it after I lost it.

Needless to say I reported it stolen... But imagine not willingly giving it away/selling it over 3 months before the new one is supposed to come out. Now I've been using a Palm Centro *shudder* and I am eagerly awaiting the release date and I will be first in line at my local AT&T store.

Omg, I feel for you. I had the Centro for maybe a year before it "broke" after a drop onto carpeting. Immediately after I got the 3G and haven't looked back. Good luck getting through these hard times. Courage.

I've just sold my iPhone anyway and for the time being I'm having to use some rubbish £5 ($10) Samsung phone that is about 1/4 the size of my iPhone and barely has a colour screen (I think it just displays blue and white lol), anyway it's a massive pain to text on and I hope I get my Blackberry soon, I'm already missing my iPhone and it's only been about 15 mins since I stopped using it lol...Hope Apple release the HD/4G towards the beginning of June and not the end of July or I'll start crying lol

Edit: I'm using that rubbish phone and some old sony walkman MP3 player, it's just not the same :-(

I sell a couple days before WWDC because most people here on Craigslist have no idea what that conference is. They only know about the new iPhone when their friends tell them about it on that day or it is announced somewhere on the news.

I feel your pain. Sold my 3GS a week ago and got 407 for it from an online buyer I use every year. I go online today and their offer for the same device is nearly 100 less now. Looks like I hit it right at the perfect time. Only problem is living with this Jokearolla SLVR of shame.

Yep, I sold mine today for £385 (about $555) which isn't a bad price considering it's about 4-5 months old (older than I thought it was, time sure does fly) anyway, if I'd have waited until just before or just after WWDC I bet I wouldn't have got nearly as much as that as eBay will most likely be flooded with 3Gs and 3GSs by then

I sold my iPhone 3GS 4 days ago for 555$, and waiting for the new iphone 4G in 13 days.....

And its pain in the a** without the iphone, i am feeling incomplete.

While I would love to sell my previous iPhones the wear and tear that they have endured would yield little profit. I've kept my original iPhone for tinkering (recently installed Android to it) and I'll be forced to keep my 3G because the screen is botched, the vibrate doesn't work and the power button no longer responds... but I believe I'll be able to put them to good use in the future with some of my computer music projects.

Sad though that I can't make at least a fraction of what I paid for them back.

Exactly the same price as me then :) it is a royal pain in the arse being without it though, you don't realise just how much you used to use it until you don't have it anymore

Kind of in the same situation as the OP, but a bit better ;)

One of my friends phone is really broken. I told him I'm buying the new iPhone the week it gets out (MAX 2-3 weeks after it gets out), and he told me he'd like to buy my old one (3G - 16GB).
I told him all about the faults with it (the jack stick only gives sound to the left side and the screen is cracked (just the glass, luckily not the LCD)). With all those faults we figured a low price (for him) that was still high enough for me :)

The conclusion is, I too am selling my old iPhone to a good friend, but in my situation I get to buy the new iPhone before I sell my old one

last october my iphone got stolen... i used my bb 8900 and my good old N95-3 ...after 15 days i couldn't take it anymore so i bought another one outright 600$ ouch!! But now at least am happy... am really addicted to this phone it's unbelievable!! i didn't bought the first 2g because it was edge and i was already using 3G devices... when i heard the 3G came out i jumped on it right away... same thing with the 3Gs... i just love my iphone :apple:

It could be worse... you could be an iPhone Lover without an iPhone period *looks at his ailing HTC PDA, and sighs*

I am conflicted on whether I should buy an iPhone 3Gs next week or just wait a little longer and invest a little extra in the 4G.

Any idea on what the price would be?

I think the price wont be much different then the 3gs one, 199$ for 16 gb. As they have to compete against htc and google.

That is why I've decided to keep my 3GS after upgrading this year. I will not be selling mine. I'll keep for those just in cases emergency situations.

I never get why people are selling theirs early. The price won't drop all that much when the new ones come out. I will still sell my wife's 3G for $150, and my 3GS for $300, which will cover the cost of both the new phones.

I probably would not be able to do it. That is why I have a 2G iPhone as my back-up in case something happened with my 3GS. Best of luck waiting!

I'm in the same boat, but I have my 3g ipad that makes it much easier. I just forwarded my calls to my work blackberry for the time being.

I preordered an EVO as well. Sprint has their whole 30 day money back so won't hurt to try it and see how that combo works with the ipad but i did not like my nexus.

Im in a similar position (over 24h and counting!) however i have temptation right in front of me!
My 3G got water damage and packed up. My insurance covered it and sent a replacement but as the 3G is unavailable now they sent a 3GS. So I am sat here looking at a sealed 16GB 3GS thinking I should sell it now and make the most cash but it leaves me without a phone till the new one comes out aaaarrrgh!
cant make up my mind to say s*d it and use the 3GS or sell it and go cold turkey for however long it takes. I dont have an ipad to comfort me in the long lonely hours. My wife wont even let me play around with her phone as she is p*ssed off I wont let her have the 3GS and sell her 3G.

I would wait to see if Verizon is coming out with an iphone. ATT is hoping to lock all you people in for 2 more years before the big move to Verizon.

Wait.

I say sell it. What insurance did you use?

Actually it came out last year on June 19.

For some odd reason, I keep thinking the 3GS came out in July. Maybe because of the promotion?

To the OP, I feel your pain. I've been without an iPhone since around May 10. I never realized big the role was it played in my everyday life. Thus, I'm anxiously waiting June 7.
