with intel Low Voltage CPUs costing Apple any where between $200 to $300 - the $800 MBA not viable, unless APPLE go Pentium Low Voltage or ARM CPUs.

An ARM CPU for MBA? OS X doesn’t run on ARM chips. Well, I’m sure Apple does have a version of it that does in their labs, but would they ever release such a thing is the question.

iOS is for ARM, but an MBA running iOS wouldn’t be much more than an iPad with a hinge.

It will kill the netbook market.

That's the job of the iPad no?

I have nothing against the MBA and its users, but IMHO a 1000$ netbook is a niche product and I don't see Apple releasing a 500$ MBA.

Steve Jobs already expressed its contempt for netbook, the market is proving him right with the tremendous success of the iPad which, btw, is cannibalizing sells of netbooks from others makers.

I don't have any particular insight, but it doesn't make sense to me to release now a new netbook, especially in high volume.

An 11"6 Ipad Pro on the other hand...

I have to say I am not too convinced about the current iPod nano
The Clickwheel is far too small and missplaced also the camera position is really weird.

I love the Macbook air but it's just way too expensive. Also it could be even smaller ...

There's a market for a new MBA, irregardless of price. Not everyone uses/wants an iPad to only 'consume' info from, many want a small machine more capable of doing real work.

An MBA offered without a 13.3" screen would be a big mistake, Apple may make an 11 and a 13" but won't EOL the 13".

Not exactly. He said Apple didn't know how to make a decent notebook for $500. This implies 2 things: (1) he doesn't think much of current netbooks; and (2) if Apple COULD figure out how to do it, they will, and LOOK OUT other netbooks!!!

No, it is NOT the job of the iPad--go look at the speech again. Jobs specifically said it was a new thing sitting between a hand-held device and a notebook, NOT a notebook replacement.

Of course, time will tell.

I think it’s for the shuffle. They spent the last few years adding video to the Nano and to take it away will be wrong. I also think the shuffle will get a new name.
iPod classic: Possible lower capacity SSD drive or a 200GB HDD. There are still a lot of have a lot in their collections and they want it with them at all time.

iPod touch: New design. 32GB and 64GB standard. Camera on front, but not the back. iPhone 4 like design. 720p video recording. 3MP camera.

iPod nano. Touch screen display. No wifi. 720P Video recoding .

The next few sound silly I know, but might as well toss them out:

New apple noise canceling head phones (note, not ear buds, but rather over the ear ones) with a stainless steal and black color scheme. Price $99. Black and sliver ear buds will come standard with all ipods and they will cost $19 if you buy them separate.
The dock connectors and cables etc., will lose then white and come in silver and black.
Apple may go all out and include a dock with all ipods or at the very least the classic and touch. Why? To get your money’s worth. Get the ipod, the standard apple ear buds (which will come in sliver and black), the dock cable and a dock. Prices will remain the same.

iTunes 10 will be announced. Over the air streaming as well as over the air wifi music sharing with music purchased from the itunes store on the touch, iPhone and iPad with a iOS 4.1 upgrade.

iPod Wish List

If they just make the existing Nano in a 32GB configuration I will gladly buy one.

However, if they reduce the screen or lose the click wheel....no dice.

The Touch should be dropped. The iPhone and iPad don't leave any place for it.

Gotta keep the shuffle as an "entry level" device.

I still want a *!(#* iPod Nano that offers 64GB or 128GB of flash memory instead of a hard drive...and...yes and...I don't want to spend more than $249 for the 128GB unit. Make it a Nano...I don't need all the features of the Touch. There are a lot of us out here who have large music collections and/or encoded music collections that easily eat up far more than 16GB, Mr. Jobs.

I agree with this but i think the nano might get wi-fi if apple's serious about this cloud.

The headphones cloud work if thier good as i hear bad things about the apple in ear phones (going to pick some up for twenty dollars new tommorow)

If it's true that Apple's Air is going to decrease from a 13" display to an 11.6", that squarely puts Apple in the netbook market. Now, is Apple going to price it appropriately to compete against $500 12" netbooks? My bet is Apple will still price it at $1000+ since their base price is still $1500. I don't see how it's going to sell at that $1000+ price and physical dimensions. I'm pretty sure the Air has been a very poor seller for Apple since Day 1.

Price aside, it's not that fun to type and read on an ~11" screen for more than 30 mins...it's just physically too small for people who need to read/write a lot of documents. Watch a video?...sure, no problem. Type a doc/letter often?...not fun.

That's the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. Have you ever noticed how many Touches are out there?

Sure, people buy all sorts of crap.

Here's my wish list for Apple:
Kill the iPod Touch.
Shell out the iPhone Nano and kill the iPod Nano.
As capacities rise kill the Classic later on.
Keep the shuffle.
And do bring on that midget MBA for 800...

Yaaa... none of that will happen, I know...

What would be the outcome if this new Air used a rebranded multi-core Cortex-A9 processor with a version of OSX that runs on it?

Benefits?

Can't think of any....

Drawbacks?

It won't run Apple OSX or any Apple OSX applications.

An MBA with an ARM CPU would be a "clamshell Ipad". I'd hope that it would open 360 degrees so that you could use it as an Ipad, or open it 90 degrees and have an Ipad with a useful keyboard. You'd have all the issues about using a touch interface with an laptop, though.

Apple already updated the iMacs and got a new mac mini in the mix. The only thing I see is a new air. The other macbooks seem fine as is.

Perhaps a smaller imac? 15-17"

The days of 15-17" monitor desktop systems are over...and have been for a year or 2 now. Although I do not own the iMac (I have the Mini), I love how it's 21" and larger...too bad it's too expensive of a system. Without getting into the PC vs. Mac argument (which is really about the OS anyway...not the hardware), you can buy a $650 PC with a 21"+ monitor from numerous vendors...I can't justify $1200 on an iMac for the same/very similar specs as a $650-$700 PC.

The day Apple decides to KEEP THE SPECS and LOWER THE PRICE of the bare $1199 iMac to $999 is the day I walk in and buy.

The click wheel, don't get rid of it apple. Touchscreen during running sucks

What if they replace the click wheel with a 3" square controller with a display element?

the click wheel already is solid-state, with buttons for "click" behind the wheel.

Why not a 3mm square screen that shows various signals, that is touch-sensitive like the wheel bit is... and also has rockers and buttons behind it, so that it clicks, like the newer Apple multi-touch trackpads, but perhaps side to side, or in quadrants.

It is possible that a new control concept might be quite interesting, and a further evolution of the click-wheel. Perhaps with the same haptic controls, plus some new ones.

I think they will introduce a touch-screen Shuffle-like iPod but they will eliminate the shuffle. iPod Touch with FaceTime and FM Radio is a must. Blow up the Classic and improve the Nano's video capabilities. New MacBook Air also. :D

If the new 3mm^2 screen is the new control instrument... I could see a nano that combines that with the Nano's screen, for a new nano.

I couls see just the 3mm^2 screen controls, with basic info display as a successor to the shuffle, more like the previous one that still had surface controls.

iPod Touch should get FaceTime, FM, Bluetooth, Accel+gyro, (I'd like GPS+Compass, as well), plus two cameras like iPhone, to clobber FlipVideo and others. It should also be a new mini iPad, by name, as that is it's closest functional similarity.

MacBook Air should shrink MacBook into a near-netbook size, with a nice aluminum feel, and should be priced just above iPad, and just along-side MacBook.

It would almost make MBA, MB, and MBP 13 nearly redundant between the three, where perhaps two could work better. MBA 11-12 and MBP 13.

iPad 5-6", iPad 10", MBA 11-12" and 13.3-14", MBP 13", 15", and 17" would be a fairly solid lineup from 300$-3000$

If we do actually see an 11.6" MBA then I think it goes without saying that they will keep the 13.3" (or move to 14-15" to make the difference worth it).
