MacConnection Is Taking Phone Pre-Orders - Not Online

On-line sales.
I was able to be among the first who will get the first shipment of 64GB G3 iPads from MacConnection by placing a phone order Saturday morning - I am #33 of 64 they expect to receive from Apple and turn around and ship the same day they get them by end of the month. They started taking pre-orders Friday morning. Nothing will be on heir website about selling iPads for another month or more. This is strictly telephone order centric.

There's nothing on their website about selling them. But they are one of the top mail order Authorized Apple Dealers if not the #1 of those. So if you want to save sales tax, still get free shipping and jump the long Apple queue, they expect Wi-Fi units in later this week too. Their number is 800.986.4420. :)

Absolutely 100% on target. Well done. The iPad is about nothing but "consumption". It will not replace a Laptop, Period. It will be the device that the most consuming nation on the planet "eats digitally". Others will then follow.

One year from now the entire digital ecosystem will be changed by this product. I have no need for one yet, but Rev.B will be tough to hold back. :apple:

Except of course we are very early in the process and there are numerous apps that are very good at creation.. The iPad is very good at consumption, for many things it may be the best out there, that does not preclude it from being good at many areas of creation. Experience will serve you better than parroting others with no experience.

You're right about that. I know that for what I do, an iPad will not suffice by a long shot. But yes, there are some industries that will be able to jump in headfirst with an iPad and see some great results.

That is true for many people, but a large majority of people who use PCs for work run exclusively Office Apps and an iPad with a bluetooth keyboard is a very flexible and compelling solution. We are early in the iPad app development process and besides the iWork Suite we also have tools like Omnigraffe releasing iPad versions, it is only going to get better. A laptop is overkill for 90% of what is "work" on a computer today (from the desktop perspective)
