A retina display needs extra battery capacity--and so does the GPU to drive it.

Last time, a retina upgrade made the iPad thicker! Making the Mini thinner in advance of a retina display sounds wrong.

(The iPad 5 is likely to get thinner, using Apple's new generation of thin battery tech. But the Mini, like the iPhone 5, is already part of that generation.)

Based on what Apple did with the iPad last year, I have no idea what they're going to do now!

Though if I had to bet, I wouldn't on a thinner mini before Xmas and a retina after. Retina is what people want, they've drilled it into peoples minds that retina is the only type of screen you should care about!

It is curious to me that they are taking longer to switch all their products to "Retina" displays than it took to switch from PowerPC to Intel processors.

Is display technology that hard? They already have the iPad, iPod, iPhone and 15" MacBook Pro, now we still need the iPad Mini, Thunderbolt Display, iMac and MacBook Air to go Retina.

just another product I dont want or need

give us a retina display already...

its like ignoring the macpro then giving us a mini with 6 thunderbolt ports

huh? c'mon man

It would be freakin sweet to introduce the retina ipad mini at the same pricepoint and keep the regular ipad mini without retina display and drop the price to $200-250. I'd buy either one. It would be a toss up for me.

So to be clear: apple either will or will not release a retina mini in 2013. Have I pretty much covered his "analysis"?

Not fair re: the new macpro. Does a mini have dual graphic cards, server class chips, or the pro's ram capacity?

That said, I'm not too sure about the new design. But it's not a mini with extra ports.

I too wish to become an analyst making money issuing unsubstantiated opinions and having macrumors publish my every fart about Apple. Just need to figure out how to get there...

Whenever it comes out, they better get moving on this. I just got my wife a Kindle fire HD, and if a $179 tablet can have a high-resolution screen like that, surely Apple's premium mini tablet should beat it.

No need to read

"Analyst Flip-Flops Again" is all you need to know. And it's nothing newsworthy.

Here's a napkin - you have some fail all over your post

Well the only time I'll invest in a NEW ipad is if it has the following features:

1. Widescreen
2. Front mounted good quality speakers for watching netflix/etc.

Wishlist:

3. 4k screen.

Person 1: Oh I see you cut your finger. Those paper cuts can be nasty.
Person 2: No what paper? That cut is from my iPad. The new version has those sharp edges as you know from being so thin.
Person 1: Ah yes I remember now. You're right.

WHO CARES WHAT THESE ANALYSTS THINK?

Their whole "industry" is to provide gossip and speculation to Wall Street traders. I honestly think their stuff belongs on financial sites and not on sites like MR or AI.

it is widescreen. with extra space at the top and bottom.

so you either want the ipad to have less screen space than it has now, making it smaller, or you want to make it long, like really long.
