This year I'm most excited to see iOS 7 more than the hardware itself. I hope Ive can pull sometime together.

This is the first year I'm not excited.

There's just the occasional mention of the unlikely possibility of a larger screen that keeps me tuned in. If larger I'm all in, if no change I"ll pass & immediately dump my iP5.

A very sad possibility. Thankfully I'm prepared with a plethora of the latest Androids in my possession.

So the iPhone 'Mini' will have the same 4" screen as the 5 and will in fact be be thicker too. Hardly anything mini about it then if that were true.

This is to prepare us for the fact that the Retina iPad mini will have a 9.7" screen and be thicker, too, because Apple hasn't been able to solve the technical challenges related to creating a Retina iPad mini in the current form factor. But it will have a plastic back and be cheaper than the standard iPad 4.

I think there'll be an iPhone 5S, to contend with the existing iPhone 5, and an iPhone Mini to replace to the iPhone 4S. It'll be of similar price point to the iPhone 4S and have the same screen, but a new plastic case and colours. My 2 cents.

I'm making the jump to the HTC One. Have mine on preordered! The iPhone was great, but it's become boring. New and better iOS, Bigger screen, new look... and I will be back. I'll bet the 6 will be something worth getting. At least I hope so, for Apple's sake.

HTC One may have a god-like screen and camera, but it's still small among other new Android phones.

Unfortunately I have given up on my One X and now I use Note 10.1 and LG OG Pro instead. HTC One looks great but it doesn't win my heart anymore. Korean really do phones right.

It's getting boring now. It's only a phone and just like siri the finger print thing is a gimmick. No doubt the "must have latest" will be queuing up again to have the same phone as there 5 but with finger print technology. They'll find another excuse to upgrade to the iPhone 6 that will have this also. SMH

Then I cannot understand why would you bet Apple will make a new phone model with new design but those phone will have to be sold at lower price than iPhone 5.

Further lower the price of the current 4S will be the answer to a budget iPhone.

Here is a proposed line-up, not too fragmented, but addresses additional important markets:

1.Basic non-smart "Go Phone" for those pay as you go plans. They sell millions of these truly awful devices and Apple offers nothing in this market.

2. iPhone X, the flagship that does it all. Always will have excellent technology and cutting edge design and build.

3. Cheap big-ass phone. Sort of an ultra-mini iPad, iTouch and iPhone combined. Millions of people want giant phones. Sell them one. Millions around the world want an Apple phone but cannot afford the elegant iPhone. Make one they can afford. Don't be so damned snotty about it.

Also, it is likely that TMob's policy of separating the cost of the phone from the contract will catch on and this will bring price pressures on phones. Right now people just pay the $200, sign the 2yr contract and don't really care what an iPhone costs. In the future they will. As a result, Apple would be smart to offer a more affordable model.

What does the analyst mean by "Larger Camera"?? So the iP5S will have the camera lens as large as One X's?

I'd assume something along those lines. I cant imagine they can get much more performance out of the current sized camera on the iPhone. The one on the iPhone 5 is superb for its size, but I'd guess upping the lens size and sensor is going to be a requirement to get more performance from it.

T-Mobile cost vs Verizon

I just checked my Verizon per month cost against T-Mobile.

This includes the cost of the phone for T-mobile but assumes no such cost for Verizon since it is built into the plan. It looks like T-mobile is about the same as Verizon.

Comparison of T-Mobile costs amoritized over 2 years

T-Mobile
500 # Ph plus Unl
mb line Cost 2 GB
$50 1 $579 $60 $70
$30 1 $579 $40 $50
$10 1 $579 $20 $30
$10 1 $579 $20 $30

$100 4 $2,316 $140 $180

cost per month
Plus 28% $128 $179 $230
28%+phone 225 276 327

Verizon Monthly cost for 2 GB, 4 lines

$278

Wake me up for the iPhone 6.

Fingerprint scanner does nothing for me since I don't even use a password. Just slide to unlock and I'm in.

Faster processor? Eh, the iPhone 5 is blazing now.

Better camera? Nothing wrong with the 5's camera. It shoots 1080p video and great stills in most lighting conditions. Better low light performance is ok, but not life changing.

For me to get excited, I need 4.8-5" (I've held a GS3 and can still use it with one hand), and an iOS 7 that is stocked full of useful UI improvements - better Notification Center, make the Spotlight screen useful, re-imagined Settings structure, better app switching, etc.

All that said, I'll still probably get the 5S...face palm:rolleyes:

What does this have anything to do with this article post? lol

I don't disagree with what you say but you need to understand many new phone buyers are getting very Android ways of thinking:

Faster processor? Yes, new iPhone needs them, since after Samsung many people only care your phone has dual-core or quad-core or octa-core CPU, nobody cares about figures anymore. Octa-core will win many people's heart no matter what.

Better camera? Yes, new Full HD Android phones have 13 MP camera at the back. They will ask when would iPhone have that?

Bigger screen? Sure, Note II and Full HD Android phones have at least 4.7" screen, they will ask when would iPhone have that?

am i the only one who thinks they are fragmenting the line too much.
For fragmentation, I use to think of the number of latest/current products in parallel, and that would only be iPhone 5S + iPhone "Mini", so, no I don't think it's very fragmented.

I'm actually surprised Apple hasn't done this earlier. I know they like to keep it simple and this kind of confidence in their products is a big part of their image, but the iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod touch lines and now iPad line too all have multiple "current" products in the respective latest lineups.

Two current iPhones for two different budgets could improve the iPhone market coverage by a lot while still not making it very complicated for the end-user at all. There's also the psychological factor here. If there is a "mini" version, the "pro" version should look more special and great than if it was the only choice.

Finally, I don't think Apple will make the iPhone "Mini" look cheap. I'm imagining something looking like the latest iPod touch which I in a sense think can be even more attractive than the iPhone 5.

I haven't been excited since the iPhone 4. Seems like Android keeps coming out with new usable features and iPhone is getting just a small bump now that don't justify the upgrades.

I would be excited if Apple would just give me a $#%@ micro sd card slot.

So S will stand for security this time. Not that Biometrics has ever been great or foolproof. Paltry upgrade to say the least.
