I don't really mind the idea of a cheaper version of the iPhone but having multiple screen sizes I think is too fragmented.

So S will stand for security this time. Not that Biometrics has ever been great or foolproof. Paltry upgrade to say the least.

I had a friend that had this on a Motorola Android phone, and he said he really liked it, but I noticed that he would have to swipe his finger 2-3 times before it would unlock. Maybe Apple will improve on this.

They can ALSO call the iPhone mini the iPhone 5s, with the small s meaning "slow". :D

Am I alone in thinking the fingerprint sensor is the biggest gimmick apple (presumably) has pitched to customers yet?

It's definitely one of those gimmick features that has very little use. It offers no further security than a good passcode.

after using a note 2 nothing else compares for me. Note 2 screen size is perfect

Me too, well at least when I got it initially.

Now I want a 6" screen and 128 GB built in and with a 128GB micro-sd card. Then I would be set for at least another a year and a half. :)

There's no way they're going to call a plastic phone with the same screen size the "iPhone mini". It would make absolutely zero sense to consumers. I could see a potential sales transaction going like this:

Customer: I'd like to buy the new, cheaper iPhone.
Apple Specialist: The iPhone mini?
Customer: Is it available in a smaller size than other iPhones?
Apple Specialist: It's the same size as the iPhone 5 and 5S.
Customer: <puzzled look on face> Why is it called mini, then?
Apple Specialist: Good question.

The Iphone Mini takes the same shape of the current Iphone 5 with cheaper housing and the current Iphone will see its screen size increase to compete with SG4. It allows Apple to hit both markets who like the size now and those who desire a larger screen for media consumption. Between the iphone min, iphone, ipad min and the ipad Apple can have a mobile major release every quarter.

I wonder who is working with these "analysts"

I fear that "larger camera" really means "more pixels".

I'd be delighted if they went to a 1MP camera unit with updated sensor tech, so that the thing would work tolerably in real-world light.

In fact less secure. You now can get thiefs that can steal the phone and cut off your finger at the same time to get access.

What's fragmented apart from screen aspect ratio?
a iphone mini, a iphone 5, iphone 4s, iphone 5s, and maybe a cheaper iPhone. i understand catering to the market. just seems a bit conventional for apple.

now of course this is all speculation from rumors. lol

How so? (serious question, not asking sarcastically :) )

That also poses an issue for developers as more screen sizes equates to developer hell

Oh good. Please Apple release same size as 5 but with 128gb ! Heck they can even re-release the 5 but with the upgrades storage and I will buy it.

All i keep hearing throughout these iphone rumor posts are complaints or negativity without any real suggestions or solutions to any of them. "iOS is boring, fingerprint scanners are gimmicky, small screens are lame, apple isnt innovative anymore, and so on."

my first question to everyone is: WHAT DO YOU HONESTLY need your iphone to do that it doesnt do already? it already takes amazing pictures and videos, the screen is perfect...battery life is outstanding..it works on just about every cell network.. what else is there? NFC? bump android thing? live tiles? widgets? multitasking?

my answer: The only thing id truly love an iphone to do is have 2 features from blackberry: the contacts on the outside of the phone so you slide it into your dock at night without needing to plug it in to charge and bedside mode. DO NOT DISTURB is NOT the same thing.

i find if youre trying to do any SERIOUS reading, gaming, productivity, web searching, emailing, photo/video editing, movie/tv watching then you should be using an ipad...if youre doing ANYTHING on your iphone for more than an hour at a time then you need an ipad.

If it's a so-called 'cheaper' iPhone, then why is it more expensive than the standard $200 for the low-end flagship model? That doesn't make any sense.

There are hundreds of posts on this board regarding the difference between the retail price ($650 for the standard flagship model) and contract price ($199).

Same screen size? DOA.

Apple needs to replace some of its upper management by a fresher crowd. The majority of people want bigger screens, and it has been like this for a very long time. Apple will eventually follow suit, which will be proof that the management needed to be replaced long time ago.

Apple really needs to have 3 different sizes iphones, 4", 4.5" and 5". I'm pre-ordering the GS4 next week, seriously, this isn't 2007 and Apple needs to start giving people options, a 4" screen just don't cut it anymore.
