Analyst Predicts No Siri on iPhone 5C, Fingerprint Scanner Solely for Device Unlocking on iPhone 5S

I call BS!

Fingerprint scanner to unlock iPhone, really? What if my kids (6&10) want to use my phone and I'm not available to unlock it for them? No Siri either, give me a break. It will be included!
 
Siri has never worked for me at all - Google's implementation has just worked better every time.

Realistically I am not all that excited by a fingerprint scanner either.
 
Does Gene Munster have any credit left as an Apple analyst?

You probably get more accuracy from reading random MR posts.

Also: no credit for predicting October for new iPad releases. If you belive Apple won't miss the Christmas shopping season (duh), you're down to two months at this point: September or October.
 
Munster- The biggest Apple bulltard in Apple history. He used to pump up AAPL Stock like there was no tomorrow. He thought TV was coming in 2012 then 2013 now 2014. He knows nothing :p
 
Munster's an idiot.

Siri isn't a deal breaking feature that would lead to cannibalized sales. It will be on the iPhone 5C. And Apple will do everything possible to "reinvent" the fingerprint and apply that sensor to as much crap as they can... although it may start as simply being a way to unlock your device.
 
Here's a random thought: what if Apple starts selling two "flavors" of iOS? You can get iOS - Core on your 5C plastic phone, but if you want to add
  • Siri
  • Panoramic, Filters, Square photos (instead of just rectangles)
  • iCloud sync and find
  • Passbook
  • FaceTime
  • iTunes match
  • insert new unannounced feature here
...those are all "in OS purchases" that you can upgrade to?

The 5S (and legacy upgraded phones) come with all of them unlocked. The price points would be something like:

5C on contract with core feature set $0
5C on contract with all features on $99
5S on contract with all features on $199

5C off contract with core feature set $399
5C off contract with all features on $499
5S off contract with all features on $599

(Assume 16GB across the board)

Umm, then you don't enable that feature? How would your kids unlock your phone without your passcode if you didn't tell them? You can't possibly think the fingerprint scanner will be required to use the phone... It's also possible they might even let you allow more than one accepted finger to unlock.
 
Siri doesn't bother me at all. The price the analyst predict is silly. Apple would never sell it for 300$. It is too low. Even if the cost of the iPhone 5C would be that low, they would add profit margin to this to collect more money.

I am 99.9% certain that a fingerprint unlock function implemented in a future iPhone would allow you to configure more than just 1 person for unlocking the device.

Also as many others noted the "analyst" is most probably wrong. I guess Siri would also be available even on the iPhone 5C(heap).
 
No SIRI on future iOS devices would light the spotlight on Google, as they already have an app that provides similar functionality.

I don't think Apple would do something as stupid as that. I think what would set the differences would be:
- Processor (previous generation if it would really save Apple some money)
- Cameras (still two cameras, just lower resolution)
- External covers (not aluminum, just plastic-like finish in many colors)
- Display (non-retina)
- Just one capacity (most likely 16GB).
- No AirDrop support
- WiFi 802.11n only, not 802.11ac
- No Fingerprint reader
The goal apparently is to launch a lower cost device that someone would actually want to buy it. I would have to be competitive featurewise to a reasonable degree to make it worth buying it.

I can't see them leaving Siri off, more so now that you can load Google Now and use its voice assistant although it can't set alarms and other things to the OS but it's pretty quick in replying the information it can.

I think the finger print scanner would have to do more than just unlock the phone also
 
Munster apparently believes that omitting Siri from the iPhone 5C would help differentiate the lineup enough to limit cannibalization of Apple's more expensive iPhones by the cheaper 5C model.

LOL. Not a chance at least as for the international market, with many countries that do not even HAVE Siri, much less want to use it by talking to their phones in a crowded environment.

I don't think it'll sell for just $300 either. The point of 5C was to help Apple with the profit margins, so they can't build something less expensive and then pressure the price on that one instead. Well, they can, but then one may ask what the point is. Maybe if the point is to simply drive cheap crapdroids out of the market, but I think they are trying to kill two birds with one stone here and also boost some profits while they're at it.

There's always an alternate password entry method, as if you lose your finger you wouldn't want to be unable to use your phone. :D
The fingerprint scanner is just for convenience, at least for now.
 
Add free stuff onto the flagship device ie the 5S

For example

More free iCloud Storage
Free iTunes Match account
Free Applecare

That way they wouldn't have to artificially cripple the 5C. The 5C would still be a great phone, the 5S would just be, well, better.
 
Enough Already with the iPAD and iPHONE

There's a universe of we folks who care little-to-even-less about iPhone and iPad. Enough Already. Let's hear some $costs and options and projected dates for the new Mac Pro so we can make a decision whether to continue our 25-year realtionship with Apple products. This is "mac" rumors and i-This and i-That don't have "mac" anywhere in the name. Macs are minis, macbooks and mac pros.
 
Munster is an idiot. Still pushing his Apple TV pipe dream before years end....Even on the last quarterly analyst call the woman running it was clearly frustrated with him and was quickly said "OK, THANK YOU GENE, next". Since he kept trying to ask about his stupid predictions on the TV.

All these "analysts" do is try and shift the market in their favor. Really anyone can do that. These losers just wear a nice suit while doing it. Such shady crap. They should be treated the way Casinos treat card counters.
