You do realize we are all constantly bombarded by a universe of radio waves?
You do realize that humans are used to natural radio waves just as to the natural radiation. But artificial radition doesn't do anything good to you.
[doublepost=1490667215][/doublepost]They'd better add more health-related sensors to the watch. That'd make it a killer device.

AW3 w/cellular, a legit watch podcast app, and AirPods? That's my dream running kit.
Yep. Exactly.

I really want an AW, but, as long as I have to keep my phone on me to listen to my podcasts, I am not realizing the value.

I might be tethered to my phone 90% of the time, but I think that 10% of the time I need cellular on an AW would provide 90% of the value.

Oh great, yet ANOTHER data-sim or plan to pay for!

Why can we not (at least here in the UK/EU) have a SINGLE plan that allows data to be used on our phone AND tablet AND watch?

I currently buy a separate data-sim for my iPad, yet sometimes simply don't use that data allowance as I'm on Wifi so much – but when I DO need it, then I need it, and then I use it. It's basically pissing money on data one doesn't even use half the time.

Anybody consider that there might be an upsell factor for an Apple Watch if they sell a non cellular version and a cellular version like they do for iPads and iPod touch/iPhone?

Apple could squeeze those of you who have been begging for it, yet make those who don't need or want it feel like they are getting a "great price".

I had Samsung's Gear S2 LTE watch and it was a great watch (loved the dial), and it worked great when linked in Wifi mode (they shared the same phone number via AT&T's NumberSync), but when it went into LTE mode when disconnected from your phone, the battery was crushed in just a few hours.

I don't see Apple committing to watch LTE unless some new battery breakthrough happens.

My dog has a cellular radio in her dog collar, as well as and antenna, GPS, cpu, software SIM, and a battery. It's about the same size as the 42mm watch, but a little thicker. It accurately reports her location anywhere she goes. And it lasts a week or more on a single charge. This is not insurmountable.

I suppose it is possible... but there isn't much room in there to add that stuff, especially if it shrinks the battery any more. Even if it took up zero more space, we'd be looking at ~ 1hr talk-time max. Maybe that's good enough for the application if it's just meant for emergencies or quickly getting a bit of data exchanged. I'm skeptical though at this point.

But, as I said earlier, this is IMO where it has to go to become more widely useful. I currently see no use for one, but if it had this capability, I might reconsider. It would be nice to have something like this for emergencies when it's inconvenient to have a phone along.

It also has no screen. And, if it has BT at all, only uses it when you configure it with your smartphone.

I don't think there is a technical reason... so profits, and lack of competition. If the trend keeps going towards multiple connected devices, I suppose eventually that will become a thing.

As long as it could be added to a family plan with no upcharge. But the most id pay for the convenience is $5/month.

My guess is initial date fees will be $15/month then the carriers will get into price wars offering watches added to existing data plans for free.

Nope. Not digging cellular connectivity on the watch. I just don't have a need for it. I want to limit the things I do on a device with a 42mm screen, not add more functionality to it. They need to iron out the edges on the existing functionality before adding more features to the watch.

Case and point -- Siri on the watch could be so much better. Dictating texts could be great; but it's not. Why? If I dictate five sentences, four out of the five will be good but one of those sentences will make absolutely no sense. Once Siri is done listening, I have two choices -- send the whole thing as is or cancel it and re-dictate the entire thing. It's aggravating.

Secondly, Siri on the watch is incapable of utilizing Find My Friends on the watch. The app is on the watch. I can launch the app on the watch and see where friends are. However, if I ask Siri on the watch where someone is, it tells me to continue on the iPhone. Why? I hoped they would've fixed that in iOS 10.3. Nope.

I suppose it depends on where you live... but have you seen any price wars? Here (Canada) all the carriers have the exact same plans and pricing, including the exact same 'bonus' or 'sale' incentives, during (as far as I can tell) the exact same time-frames.

But the UK market is supposed to be one of the most competitive in the developed world; inc. MVNO's galore. So really this 'culture' of one device per plan needs to change ASAP.

Heh, Siri on the phone could be so much better, and is aggravating. :) My son and I have considered doing some kind of comedy podcast, as I'll sometimes try to get Siri to do something useful while we're driving around... and since it's nearly useless, it always gets good laughs.

I'm a newer iPhone owner (got it before Christmas) and I'm actually quite shocked at how poor Siri is and how bad the iPhone's hands-free capability is, given the push for hands-free while driving and safety concerns.

(I switched from using an iPod touch, and was really looking forward to hand-free. :( )

On call for work with no stress about getting back to the car to check my phone. More freedom, better response time
Take your phone with you?
[doublepost=1490670056][/doublepost]
Let's say I'm waiting for an important phone call, or an e-mail or text, but otherwise I'm free during the day. So instead of sitting by the phone all day, I can go out and have a nice surf session while the waves are in peak form. If the information I was waiting on comes in, then I'm notified, can paddle in and attend to business. Or I can swim laps while waiting, and thus don't have to miss a workout. This is the single most important thing about the iPhone too, yet I can't take the iPhone everywhere. I can take the watch.

For those of us who get it, it is a god-send. For those who don't, turn it off, or buy the non-cellular model. Simple.

Thanks for the reply - Interesting!

I don't see the point. Something else to consume the limited battery life..
Yep. And how much thicker will they need to make it to deal with the extra battery capacity that will require. I'd rather they concentrated on getting better life out of the battery capacity it has, and keeping the screen active more of the time. And slimming the chubby little thing down.

You can, actually, here in Sweden you pay for one amount of data and share on up to 5 units. I share with my wife, and we have a 4G-wifi-thingy in the car, all share the same 12GB of data, and I can share with my son, whenever he's old enough for a phone...

Really, what carrier is that with? AFAIK, the UK carriers don't offer the same thing...?!

Why not just tether it from your phone? works pretty well when you need it...

I would be much more concerned by electromagnetic radiation given off by a candle. The visible light photons emitted by a candle or a lightbulb have about 100,000 times the energy of the radio wave range photons emitted by the cellphone. See Einstein's photoelectric effect.

There's quite the difference between visible light and electromagnetic waves. Visible light does not penetrate your body, electromagnetic waves does.

Even if they could, how often do you burn a candle on your wrist?
