This is the Windows 8 effect. You think it's a coincidence that demand for the iPad 2 has dropped a staggering 25 percent after Microsoft released the Windows 8 preview?

You think that many iPad purchasers have even heard of Windows 8?

Right... everyone has stopped buying the proven leader in order to wait for a vaporware product that exists only the form of a buggy POC demo, and which will probably not ship until 2013.

Now if there is competition, it will be from the Amazon tablet, not the Win 8 FUD.

from WSJ Marketbeat:

... Apple shares were briefly lower than $392 in stark terror over this note, which J.P. Morgan is hustling to back away from as quickly as possible.

CNBC reports that J.P. Morgan is telling traders to tell clients that it thinks iPad sales are just fine. Apple shares have scrambled back to nearly the $400 mark on that CNBC report.

drive down the price, back up the truck, re-tract statement, sell back your own clients at a profit. repeat.

Bonehead analysts argue over sales numbers, meanwhile Apple sells out every iPad they make. Why do these analysts even have jobs? Even a broken clock is more accurate than them.

Called it. As I said in the last thread, this was professional and bald-faced market manipulation. What all the other analysts are saying about one data point being too little to base a predication on, that's exactly the point: this analyst can back up his ridiculous claims based on "real" evidence, right after he dumped some stock and then picked it up again 3% cheaper. The SEC should pay this guy a visit.

I read your theory in the other thread and fully agree. SMH, and we wonder why the economy tanks every few years. I live near Wall Street and I'm tell you 80% of those who work there belong behind bars.

For the armchair bankers - research analysts don't trade stocks.

There isn't going to be a new iPad this year it seems O:!

Damnit that wasn't going to be my first first post :(

good cause ipad 2 is enough for now...

the corporate greed is crazy now i mean they can only sell so many of these expensive things then you reach a point here all ho what one that can afford one have one and the others are simple unable to pay the high price.. then you lower the price to get those extra folks its not a negative thing at all its just the reality of expensive popular technology..

also ipads are not as essential as iphones they are a luxury so that will also earn less performance that the iphone at market

AirPlay video mirroring.

lol.... thats not enough cause a Jailbroken ipad one can mirror just fine ... fact is ipad two is nor substantially better in real world usage that he ipad 1 so all ipad 1 owner should wait for ipad3 with retina screen

----------

LighterThinnerFaster?
Or wait for the 3, which will be even LighterThinnerFaster.

yes bt only by about 6% in real world usage so no its not worth it to go from ipad 1 to ipad 2... save you money for ipad3 with retina... cause if you get ipad 2 now in a few months when the high rez ipad 3 comes out you wil be wishing you had waited..

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5313e Safari/7534.48.3)

Pardon my language.
But
F*** the analysts ( :D )
All ive been reading lately is : this analyst claims this , that analyst claims that.
Most of the time its full of crap. Just saying. <3 to all the non moron analyst out there.

nope, my father in law who can barely get to google by himself on his laptop is downloading it as i type this to install on his laptop
Your computer illiterate relative is going to run a developer preview of an OS that won't be out for probably another year? Is this a joke? Good luck, you'll be spending even more time helping him get any actual work done.

Yes, it's true. Nobody will ever buy an iPad again because you can install Windows 8 developer preview on your netbook. GIVE ME A BREAK! WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT WRITE THIS LAME *****????

There is no point buying an iPad 2 this late, either get it in March/April/May or don't bother, the reason why sales might be slowing down is because everyone is waiting for the iPad 3 with retina display to come along, no point buying a product now that could well be out of date and inferior in 3 months time.

There are plenty of reasons to buy an iPad 2.

Not everyone's a tech-head that needs the latest model of everything. I'm sure a hypothetical granny couldn't really give a toss about a 300 ppi screen pixel-density or a quad-core ARM SOC.

somebody tell me why i should upgrade from ipad 1 ?

I "LOVE" my ipad 1 .... I am holding off on the next one because I hate that they keep trying to make things lighter and smaller.. I'm a big guy and I think the ipad 1 is the PERFECT size..

So maybe I simplified the chain a little bit, but you're pretty naive if you don't think that the analyst side of JP isn't pretty closely linked with the brokerage side.

Maybe this is a little better:
Broker: Hey buddy, can you drive down AAPL a little bit so I can make my profit quota this month?
Analyst: (to press) Hey everybody, iPad's are down! Sell, SELL! (to broker friend) There you go, dude.
Broker: Sweet, just turned 3% drop into $300,000 cash, plus all the commissions from the call orders I just put through. Thanks bro!
Analyst: (to press) Nevermind about what I just said. Miscalculation.

DISCLAIMER: this may not reflect how brokers and analysts actually talk

I agree man, it's great. Feels a lot more solid. Although the iPad 2, I found, was easier to hold one-handed for longer, due to the flatness of the back.

The average consumers barely knows about Windows 8.

And remember, this is a Microsoft product. When is the last time demand for Apple gear has dropped in anticipation of an MS product in the same space?

You can look, but you won't find it.
