RE: "though it's possible the feature has gone under the radar. "

Much like the extra GB of DRAM that we've heard (rumored) Apple plans to include in the 2nd-Gen XR, & which is FAR more important !

For some UN-known reason, the extra GB of DRAM is rarely mentioned anymore ... i.e., now "Off the radar" of most, but should NOT be !

The creative possibilities that the Apple Pencil provides for artists and the type of stylus that Steve Jobs talked about are two very different things.

Ya but making art on a smaller iphone screen? I dunno. I get it for iPads but I've even seen artist say the 11" is a bit small or drawing so I can't image even the large iphones being good for this.

I'm not an artist and I think I can actually type faster than I can write so wouldn't be much use to me personally. Unless the pencil fits inside the iphone I'm not carrying the pencil around in my pocket. Seems a bit pointless to me but I'm also not the target as I wouldn't even buy one for an ipad because I don't draw and writing notes makes less sense than typing or using voice to text.

But, I mean I guess it doesn't hurt to be able to use it on an iphone though I just hope it doesn't impact the cost of an iphone too drastically.

i don‘t think that you‘d charge your apple pencil by holding it next to or put it flat on the back of the iphone. and we would have already heard about magnets in the new iphones, if there were some... so, no, not this year. maybe with apple pencil 3 (for just $199) with qi-charging support (so you could at least also charge it on a charging mat). or maybe they‘ll sell a $ 80 pencil charger / stand.

This goes totally against Jobs' vision for the iPhone. And who wants a pencil on an iPhone? Please!!

DO IT!

Doesn't even have to be a mini pencil that fits into the phone like the Note. But when I switch from my iPad Pro to my phone I tap the screen with my apple pencil every time.

The 2019 iPhones could introduce support for the Apple Pencil, according to a list of feature predictions shared today by Citi Research (via Business Insider).

"Support for iPhone pencil/stylus" was on Citi Research's list of upcoming features it expects to see in the 2019 iPhones, but we've heard extensive rumors about the upcoming devices and Apple Pencil support has seldom been mentioned.

At one point in 2018, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple Pencil support is a possibility for a future iPhone, but he did not specify when and has made no mention of the feature in his myriad reports on what's coming to the 2019 iPhones. Kuo at the time said that Apple Pencil support would hinge on Apple releasing a larger iPhone, but it's not clear if that meant larger than the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max.

Korean site The Investor, which does not have an established track record for accuracy, also suggested Apple is considering offering an Apple Pencil-like stylus that could launch as early as 2019, but no reliable source has indicated Apple Pencil support is in the works for the 2019 iPhone lineup.

Apple Pencil support would be a major 2019 iPhone feature if planned, suggesting we would have heard multiple rumors about it if Apple was indeed aiming to introduce stylus support this year. That we haven't heard Apple Pencil rumors calls Citi Research's Apple Pencil support claims into question, though it's possible the feature has gone under the radar.

Ahead of the launch of the 2018 iPhones, there were multiple reports from Asian supply chain sources indicating the new devices would work with the Apple Pencil, which did not happen.

Apple has, however, expanded Apple Pencil compatibility to its entire iPad lineup, from the 12.9-inch iPad Pro to the 7.9-inch iPad mini, so future Apple Pencil support for iPhone is not out of the question, but seems unlikely for 2019 given the lack of rumors.

Apple's 2019 iPhone lineup is expected to be similar to the 2018 lineup, with 5.8 and 6.5-inch OLED devices planned alongside a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone that's more affordable. The new iPhones will look largely similar to the 2018 iPhones, with the exception of new rear camera setups. For more on what's expected in 2019, make sure to check out our 2019 iPhone roundup.

This rumor is not surprising as iPhone gets bigger size inching closer to iPad mini size, the pencil idea as an accessory is materializing similar to an iPad.

How to charge it?? don't see it coming. seems another of those sketchy rumours..
Charging would occur by placing it on the back of the iphone, just like shared charging occurs in Samsung devices already on the market.. having said that, this news does nothing for me. I wouldn't dare carry an apple pencil around with me unless it was much smaller and even then I probably wouldn't use it.

for the $1000 iphones. we all know that the lower version stuff usually gets something similar, but less useful a year later.

too late. Those who've been pining all these years for a stylus have finally, grudgingly gotten used to using a big fat blocking finger to do everything.
I think most people hold the iPhone with their writing hand, so in order to use a stylus, years of ingrained behavior will have to be swapped to the other hand. It'll be a hard transition and it's doubtful people will really get into it. SJ was right: who wants a stylus ?

the phone is so large that i need to use both hands and the phone is on my left and use my ”writing”, right, hand to tap it. Even when i use it with a single hand, it is not the writing hand - i use it with the left hand (not the writing hand). For me it doesnt feel natural at all keeping it on the right (writing) hand. it is the same as opening a bottle/can for example, i do it with my left hand - not with the writing hand.

Cue the people misinterpreting Steve Jobs’ quote that “if you need a stylus, you’ve already failed”.

The Apple Pencil isn’t a stylus in the sense that they were used pre-2007. It’s a writing and drawing tool, not a primary method of interacting with the UI. If your UI requires a stylus, then yes, “you’ve already failed”.

That said, I don’t really see the point of Pencil on a device as small as the iPhone. On the iPad, it’s fantastic for editing photos with precision and taking notes in Notepad.

I think I am the only one that just CANNOT type on the iPhone without errors. This would be a godsend for me. I wasn’t going to upgrade my Max this year but is this if true, I would seriously consider it!

That pencil gonna look ridiculous yuuuge for a iPhone maybe a small stylist would just do fine and I don't understand Tim Apple why are we backwards I thought iPhones was supposedly none stylist or pencil.
So why can’t it just be both for whatever suits your own style? For my self, I would LOVE A SMALL PENCIL!
