Cue the people misinterpreting Steve Jobs’ quote that “if you need a stylus, you’ve already failed”.

The Apple Pencil isn’t a stylus in the sense that they were used pre-2007. It’s a writing and drawing tool, not a primary method of interacting with the UI. If your UI requires a stylus, then yes, “you’ve already failed”.

That said, I don’t really see the point of Pencil on a device as small as the iPhone. On the iPad, it’s fantastic for editing photos with precision and taking notes in Notepad.

Don’t try. You can’t explain it to them. Sense doesn’t work for them. ‚Steve said‘ is like the Bible to them.

I hope not. Pencil on iPhone is stupid idea. The screen is too small.
It just goes to show, that people really have no clue what they need.
But Apple DOES HAVE A CLUE and knows what you need before you do! (IMHO ;))

I though Jobs hated styli of any kind. This goes against Apples core principles.
Look at the context, Steve was repelled by the notion of a device where you _had_ to use a stylus to interact with it - Palm Pilots and a lot of early smart-ish phones were like that. He didn't want to build (or use) a phone where you could only interact using a stylus. I suspect he would have liked the Apple Pencil on iPads (when one is doing artistic things), and may have found using it with a phone (as an _option_) to be unnecessary, but unobjectionable. That's my guess anyway.

I actually think a stylus makes more sense on a iPhone than a “Pencil”.

As an artist myself, I can’t imagine doing any sort of art creation or editing on even the Max screen.

I can’t draw but I would love a pencil/stylus for colouring apps and note taking.

People use the S-pen for drawing on the galaxy note phones.

I don't see a problem. But I never really did see a problem with using a stylus/pencil as an option. It's not the path to the dark side. Or maybe it is a bit...?

If true it won’t be a “stylus”. It will the Apple Pencil instead being “supported”; like for signing, drawing, adjusting...
I for one would love it; I often travel with both my iPhone and iPadPro+pencil and have tasked that could use a quick iPhone+Pencil love.

Yes please One of the reason I switched was pencil support. But like the note series it need easy storage

Interesting. I guess if you own an Apple Pencil, it’s primary use is for the iPad. I’m not sure when I’ll need to use an AP on an iPhone.

I have pudgy fingers so the pencil is useful when I play games that require finer touch. :)

That's why one of my large-fingered friends uses the eraser side of a pencil to tap on his iPhone keyboard. But you can't pinch and zoom that way, so you sometimes need to use your pudgy fingers.

This would be awesome, but I HIGHLY doubt it's true. Maybe for 2020.

Would only like it if it could be stored on the iPhone like the note series

That's the holy grail, and it's the issue I have with ipads and my surface pro. I always either forget to bring it along, or I'm in danger of losing it. It always amazes me just how good the Note series styli are, even though they are so small. For those who still want a full sized pencil they just have to buy the full size one.

Though it’s not like Apple users have a choice now.

Right! Apple preferred tailoring to the Asian market, who LOVES huge phones. The hit of the iPhone SE showed there is large demand for smaller form factors. Unfortunately Apple mistakes this for people just wanting a cheaper phone.

Oh I remember well the stylus based palmtops. (Newton, iPaq) It would be nice as an option on the iPhone.

Although eight years late it's a welcomed addition. Questions are, will it be backwards compatible with existing Pencils or will it require yet another device specific Pencil? And, where do you stow it besides pocket protector if it's not inside phone?

iPhone SE adoption rate was below average. It didn't beat iPhone 5S until 2018. Nobody except price sensitive markets like India wanted it.
