Which device are you getting daily updates on? I have a Note 9 and S10+. I'm not seeing these "daily updates". I waited 5 months just to get Pie on my Note 9.

Do you own any Android tablets? Ever tried to find actual tablet optimized Apps that weren't just blown-up phone Apps? You better believe Android developers are lazy when you look at the sorry state of Android on tablets. Google doesn't even have a tablet section on Google Play (they had one but dropped it because it was a wasteland).
Have you heard about LineageOS? Nightly update my friend.
Why are you so hyped about tablet? I guess you want to bring in to discussion the iPad OS which just basically rearrange the icon in the home screen to be able use the extra screens. Widgets in Android OS. Split screen? Floating keyboard?

Its a fact that iOS is a very limited OS because Apple wants to control every aspect of it. It has its merit in doing so but the way i see it it has more cons than pros. But anyway, its pointless to further the discussion because we have a different point of view. But do understand I develop software for Android and for that I want to truly own my phone and not be told on how to use it.

I do find it somewhat sad people think Apple is not milking that data as well.
In some ways Google is much more open with what they do with the data they collect and sadly have a much larger vest interested in keeping it private than Apple does. Apple gets it all stolen they have a break of trust. Google gets it all stolen not only is it a break of trust but also how they sell that data for ads gets taken so they lose business.

Milking? Is that why Apple ad revenue accounts for 0.2% ($500 million) of their yearly revenues while Google ad revenue accounts for 88% ($116 billion) of their yearly revenues?

People keep using the same logical fallacies regarding Apple, especially when comparing them to Google. The two most common used are Black & White and False Equivalency. They are often used together.
  • Black & White: Trying to define possibilities to A & B when in fact there might be C, D & E.
  • False Equivalency: A and B share a common trait therefore A = B.
Here are many examples of these fallacies used to try and imply Apple is no different than Google or others.

  • The App Store gets malware. Google Play gets malware. Therefore they are both just as secure (or insecure). Doesn't take into account the number of Apps, downloads or the severity.
  • Apple collects data. Google collects data. Doesn't take into account how much data they collect, where they collect it from or what types of data they collect.
  • Apple makes money off ads. Google makes money off ads. Doesn't take into account how much money they make on ads or whether their company survival depends on ads.
  • Apple issues regular security updates. Google issues regular security updates. Therefore they both get regular updates and are both just as secure.

You get the idea.

How about this point if view..
Apple willingly cooperates with the Chinese government. They will provide user data to the Chinese government if they asked for it. And I think the reason for this level of cooperation is very clear, profit. If im not mistaken China is 2nd to USA when it comes to profit for Apple.
Now, Google and Facebook who is unwilling to cooperate with Chinese government are banned in the country.
What does it mean???

They aren't interested in tablets so why would they?

Its a tanking category. Despite Apples insistence that they are the future of computing sales of tablets have been on the slide for years.

It's a tanking category on Android for two reasons: First, manufacturers didn't take them seriously and released under-powered garbage devices. Nobody has bothered to make higher-end versions of their SoCs for tablets and OEMs don't even put the latest available SoCs in them. Second is developers were too lazy to bother making tablet optimized versions of their Apps or high-end Apps that are suitable for use on a tablet.

Apple, meanwhile, makes X versions of their SoCs with substantially more power than their regular SoCs. And developers take advantage of this power by bringing high-end Apps with increased features to the iPad. Like Adobe bringing full Photoshop to the iPad. This is why the iPad App ecosystem is thriving while the Android tablet ecosystem is dead.

The iPad is relevant for one simple reason: Everything in computers trickles down. We can do things on our phones that previously required $100K workstations. From workstations to PCs to tablets to phones. Android lacks this trickle down effect since the buck stops at tablets.

And don't play the "I'm a developer card". I also code for Android/iOS so that doesn't work on me. It's another logical fallacy (Argument from Authority). Because you're a developer I should automatic all believe anything you say? If you had actual facts to add to the discussion you should use those, not try to convince people you're right because you develop software.

Your just amazing.. You can do things on your iPad that you can only do with your $100k desktop workstation before. I have no comeback for that. I couldnt even imagine or picture out what a $100k desktop workstation will look like.

you did not believe what i said about LineageOS daily update and security feature? here is the link

https://lineageos.org

Abou the LUKS format, search xda for the arm binary for cryptsetup and once you got it then create your gui wrapper and also to make your coding life easy try to search for the super su library.

Wew.. We are out of topic alrady.. Sory mods..

I'm sure that 100k workstation analogy has some sort of logical fallacy in it somewhere, lol.

When did green bubbles become so hated lol. It's kind of news to me, guess I've been living under a rock haha. Anyway, Android really needs to focus on the right things now instead of whatever they're doing IMO. That said, I like Android, it's just in need of new direction so hopefully this "Android 10" is the beginning of something good.

Another Android release that won’t be available on most Android phones. Android knows forced obsolescence like nobody else. You want the new updates? Buy a new phone.

Meanwhile the upcoming iOS 13 supports all iPhones since 2015.

Why are you talking about a version of Android that hardly anyone uses as if the benefits it has applies to the entire Android ecosystem? It's no more valid than people who say "Pixel phones get regular updates" when they comprise about 0.2% of Android phones in use.

:)

You both must be very young and don't remember how expensive workstations that could do something as simple as photo/video editing were many years ago.

One thing apple could do is bring iMessage to android and make the world a better place for us blue bubble folks. Besides, There are way more groups of people that have the one or two droid users, not the other way around.

Yeah I agree, apple should just bring iMessage to Android and I think they should just charge $4.99 for it. Not subscription or anything. Just $5 and you get iMessage on Android. They make money, gone with the issue, etc.

I know it won't ever happen.

Besides, There are way more groups of people that have the one or two droid users, not the other way around.

This is certainly the case for me, not literally, but arbitrarily I'd say iOS users 90% in my circle, including family and friend families. I wonder if this is just a US thing or if the world is preferring iMessage?[/QUOTE]

Now that MS and Android have caught up to MacOS10, they don't have to hide their versions with fancy names. lol.

Windows 10 and Android 10! See we're just as advanced as Apple!

Is this info here just to give users something to bash? What does this have to do with anything Mac/iPhone or Apple?

I think the term is "clickbait."

Yeah, the big difference being that you don't actually need those OS feature updates. You know, just like all Windows software still runs on Windows 7 (or actually even on Windows XP). Besides, Google changed the update mechanisms with Android 8, but why would anybody here bother themselves with facts when you can enjoy a good old bias?

It's a US thing. There are 2.5 billion Android users out there, and only in the US iOS has a slightly larger market share than Android (52% vs 47%). In the rest of the world, Android owns over 70%+ of the market. And seriously, it doesn't matter if Apple users burn more money in the App Store than Android users. Accessibility matters, so it's important what most people use, not how much money they spend.

It's a category on the decline. This is not a fallacy this is a fact. Here are some actual facts to add to the discussion...

Last three years in unit sales

2016: Tablets: 174.9 million, PC (desktop/laptop): 260.1 million

2017: Tablets: 163 million PC (desktop/laptop): 260.1 million

2018: Tablets: 150.3 million PC (desktop/laptop) 256.7 million

iPad specifically..

iPad 2016: 45.59 million

iPad 2017: 43.75 million

iPad 2018: 43.5 million

Bear in mind that at its peak in 2014 Apple were selling nearly 68 million a year.

That's a pretty serious drop, honestly makes me wonder why they bother to put a lot of effort (os features like sidecar) into the ipad lineup if the market is shrinking like that.

I can’t believe you would still use an android device.

Its still a decent business for them, based on those numbers iPads account for nearly a third of all tablet sales.

The industry in general seems to be turning away from tablets though, Google are done with them and Microsoft seem to have backed away from the Suface Pro "Tablet with a keyboard cover" device a bit recently. The Surface Book and obviously the Surface Laptop suggest a move back towards traditional laptop style hardware.
