Before all of you start saying "ZOMG goodbye iPhone, hello Android!!!!1!", I urge you to actually test drive an Android device for a few weeks. Really, your ENTIRE opinion will change. Once you have the speed and responsiveness that the iPhone 3GS offers, every single current Android device will seem underpowered, slow, sluggish, and painful. The current Android devices simply suck, and no matter how much you want to use the Android OS, the fact remains that currently the hardware offerings are pathetic.

3Gs faster you say?

Nope. I compared it with "every single current Android device "

Who is even talking about web rendering speed? Last I checked the OS can do more than render webpages, and to be honest 0.6 second difference is the last thing I am worried about. I am more concerned with device performance over time.

I own the 3GS and an Android phone. I use both heavily. Do you?

I guess my opinion doesn't count then as I only had a 3G then moved on to the HTC Hero.

If we're playing the i've used both game, why did you express an opinion on "every single current Android device". Have you used them all?

Actually I have used a fair amount (I am an Android developer...), and I have yet to find an Android phone that is as smooth, responsive, and has the battery life the 3GS offers. I am not some iPhone fanboy, I want Android to succeed as much as anyone, however the current phone offering is horribly pathetic. It just is.

Keep dreaming, companies dont believe in CHOICE, especially apple.

Without Apple you won't have:

Personal Computer
GUI
Mouse
iPod
iPhone, AKA phone that doesn't require 100 page manual

Without Apple, you will have your choice of

Mainframe computer
DOS
What's a mouse?
etc.

G1 isn't getting eclair due to the memory on the phone, plus the processor they need to run Android 2.0.

I would be surprised if there wasn't a way to get it running 2.0. It won't be officially supported, as EOL was 1.5 or 1.6 I believe, but I bet through some kung-fu wizardry it will be possible.

Done that many times. No response at all, like posting to /dev/null or to a black hole. And many of my suggestions will probably need agreement by AT&T despite the non-existing agreement between Apple and AT&T.

No company responds to every single submission personally.

It's highly likely that the suggestions go into a database and analyzed.

I apologise for responding to your comments as I did seeing as you were mainly focusing on mobile handets.

I agree that using the same old Quallcomm MSM7200 chipset has left Android lacking against things like the 3Gs but things are thankfully changing as more handset manufacturers are getting involved.

"...support for HTML5"

well, it looks sweet. Hope it prods Apple to make the next iPhone OS version even better.

LOL:

Google fans fail to contemplate why Android is free

People, if you have an idea for iPhone, submit it at

Good article, but one of Dilger's main points (that the Android is only supported by no-name Chinese manufacturers) has already been debunked with Motorola and the others lining up.

I honestly think Android and Google will go further than the article claims it will, but will fall totally short of the dominance we're all hoping for and scared of. Apple has hit several bona-fide successes in the past 10 years, with its hardware releases, iPod, iPhone, and more, but it's barely cracked 10% of the market. I can't see how Google will do any better.

Please. The only thing on that list that apple was actually responsible was the mouse. The iPod and iPhone are both a pain in the ass to use for me, mainly because they restrict choice the most of any apple product.

You missed the section on "Symbian is being pushed by big vendors." Yes, he knows about Motorola.

Yeah Android will probably go further than now, but probably won't become the top player.

Market share isn't everything. If you sell iPhone at $1, then it'll probably be the top selling phone, but you'll lose tons of money. Instead, you want to consider total revenue and profit to revenue. Keep in mind that using economic indicators, Apple rivals Nokia, the company that is number 1 according to volume.

Restrict choice? The iPhone and iPod are revolutionary devices. You have the greatest choice in the world: the choice to NOT buy the device.

okay I have a iPhone for personal line and a Google Dev 1 (Android) phone for Business/Development and they both have their own special things but my issue with the Android is I read is the early adopters with the G1, Dev 1, My Touch 3G will not be able to upgrade to 2.0 and beyond.

So yes if you don't mind buying new phone every year then Android is great.....
