Try to understand one thing, all these new developments make Apple to be on their toe. Else they would offer some sluggish updates/products time and then when they like to....

Stop commenting about who is best. In Consumer goods field it is always "Cat & Mouse" race....
Buy any product that really meets your needs. PERIOD.

I have not used either apple or android so I have no rights to comment about their performance or share any rating.:D

okay I have a iPhone for personal line and a Google Dev 1 (Android) phone for Business/Development and they both have their own special things but my issue with the Android is I read is the early adopters with the G1, Dev 1, My Touch 3G will not be able to upgrade to 2.0 and beyond.

So yes if you don't mind buying new phone every year then Android is great.....

I was going to ask about that. This is a wonderful way for Google to shoot themselves in the foot. All of the people who got left behind when they bought the original Android devices might think twice about sticking with the platform, since it includes rapid hardware obsolescence.

Apple has yet to drop support for the original iPhone. Sure, some features are missing since the hardware just can't do it (e.g. GPS, compass, video recording), but they didn't force people to buy a new iPhone to get the app store or push notifications.

Wrong.

I have the choice of using Windows, Linux or OS X on my Mac Pro. I chose OS X because it suits me best, and has the least limitations for my needs. But....

How is this a relevant comparison when it comes portable devices? Are you just forcing the 'hypocrite' insult? Yes, yes you are.

So there is no choice with iPhones and iPod, but there is choice with OS X. Solid reasoning buddy. Rock solid.

Haha, hold on. What ever happened to 1.0? Did they just skip it or was it that I wasn't paying attention lol. No matter which way it's cut it's not such a great thing. :D

"In other words, Android doesn’t have to beat the iPhone. It just has to be better than Windows Mobile." -- quoted from here (which was linked in a comment here). Both links are good reads.

Good thing the HTC HD2 puts all the Windows Mobile hate to shame. Its proof that an effective UI overlay and a 1GHz SnapDragon can compensate for the current WM shortcomings. HTC HD2 is going to be the best phone on the market, with or without WM.

will there be an app or any kind of way to sync android phones with itunes music?

http://www.doubletwist.com, works great on my MyTouch 3G. I got the MyTouch b/c I am happy with T-Mobile and their service. I have 300 minutes a month plus MyFaves, unlimited data and texting for $75.98 before taxes. So far I have been pretty happy with my MyTouch, I just got it last week and have not touched my iPod Touch since.

The multi-tasking on this phone is great. I can play a game, receive a call or a text message and pick right back up where I left off. I can listen to Pandora and surf the web at the same time. Sure Android has some issues, I wish the web-browsing was a bit better (more an issue of retraining myself to not try to pinch and pull). But so far I have been happy with my choice.

I don't understand why some people on here have to bash everything because it is not made by Apple. Android seems to have a good push behind it. The Market (Android's app store) is full of many great apps, some of the best one's are free. I am tired of people on both sides harping on things as the "iPhone Killer". Android will be successful without "killing" the iPhone. Some high-quality competition will help make Apple and the iPhone better.

By the way, the Android supports BOTH widgets and applications. I have a Google widget on one of my home screens so I don't need to open the browser to do a search. Another widget allows me to turn on and off my WiFi with the simple press of the screen and I have a Weather Channel widget that updates the weather in real-time even as I drive down the road. Some of the comments on here are so irrational. Everyone says so what about widgets and multi-tasking, but if Apple introduced it, some on here would be so happy they would need to change themselves.

Before all of you start saying "ZOMG goodbye iPhone, hello Android!!!!1!", I urge you to actually test drive an Android device for a few weeks. Really, your ENTIRE opinion will change. Once you have the speed and responsiveness that the iPhone 3GS offers, every single current Android device will seem underpowered, slow, sluggish, and painful. The current Android devices simply suck, and no matter how much you want to use the Android OS, the fact remains that currently the hardware offerings are pathetic.

Plain and simply put. ;)

Care to share where you found that info, especially regarding the MyTouch? I can understand that the G1 may not get Eclair, but I don't see anything that would prohibit the MyTouch from getting it?

I haven't used Android, but overall the interface looks less intuitive than the iPhone (from the video). That is probably the killer for me. I would want to try it first hand before I made a decision.

That's how I feel about Android (yes, even with the Sense UI on top), I don't really like the interface, nor the use of widgets rather than actual apps.

To be honest, I really like WebOS, which feels like a nice mix between the iPhone OS and Android. All Palm need to do is tighten up the hardware quality and really push their App store and I'd happily use WebOS, which feels more like using a proper computer rather than a mobile device.

Do ipods playback divx/xvid?
FLAC, OGG, WMA?
Proper equalizer?
Removable battery that doesnt void warranty?
Allow me to take songs back to my computer from the player itself? (UMS/MSC)
ETC? ETC? ETC?

No? So where does CHOICE come into play with ipods/iphones?
These are your complaints? "Wah, it doesn't play FLAC, I can't remove my battery, wah."

You have the CHOICE to use something else as I am sure you do.

He listed some pretty good reasons in my opinion, but since it's an Apple product criticism, I don't think you noticed them.

The Motorola Droid has great hardware, and BGR's original impressions hinted it was as fast and responsive as the iPhone 3GS. Android hardware is dramatically improving, so no more sluggishness in new android phones.

The OS can be chosen on a computer. Other than rockbox (which has its downfalls) please explain to me how the platform can be modded or replaced on the iPod.

"Proper equalizer"?

Once more, THERE IS NO COMPETITION to the iPhone right now. All other "iPhone killers" are just playing catch-up with Apple in terms of UI, responsiveness, overall build quality and integration hardware-software. And WHEN they come up with some copycat device, Apple will be already years ahead as it's always the case...

And no, I don't even have an iPhone (since my carrier is too stupid to sell it)...it's my PC-using (and newly-switched) colleagues that tell me that.

Without Apple you won't have:

Personal Computer
GUI
Mouse
iPod
iPhone, AKA phone that doesn't require 100 page manual

Without Apple, you will have your choice of

Mainframe computer
DOS
What's a mouse?
etc.

Hate to tell you but Apple bought and rebranded companies that invented all of that for the most part. It would have happened regardless.

cyanogenmod 4.2.1 on a g1 runs silky smooth and even installs apps to the sd card if you have an ext* partition on it :]

Android is coming along just nicely.

There will be some nice Android smartphones coming along.

Android largest challenge isn't from the iPhone, but itself: Fragmentation - kind of like what happened to Symbian with different flavours of UI - UIQ, S60 et al. In Androids case, different hardware and customizations. Software that will work on some phones, won't work on others.

"Bought and rebranded"? Plain wrong for most Apple innovations...just check the company's history before spreading BS.

As for what would have happened, you are right...with a 10-year delay by other companies.

Android as it is now is too complicated and difficult to average people. By saying this i mean it's a platform to geeks or just more technically educated people. Iphone os is app centric, intuative and simple and is adored by all. It is not better, it's just made for the majoraty. It will be interesting to see how this plays out because these two companies have different goals... Google needa to make android more simple and Apple needs to implement better multitasking and notification system at same time by not making iphone more difficult to use...

out of curiosity, you do know that android works with apps too, right? there's a market, there are home screens where you can place apps instead of using the drop-downish menu.

i seriously don't see how it's more complicated considering you can use it pretty much just like an iphone

The GUI belong the Xerox, Multitouch was from Fingerworks, OSX was from NeXT (regardless of it being Steve Jobs it wasn't Apple), Final Cut, Logic, Shake... shall we continue.

Oh and the mouse was available in the Xerox 8010 before the Macintosh, and man by the name of Douglas Engelbart invented the mouse in the 60's.
