So would businesses still be able to get device identification for marketing purposes? Because that information could be pretty valuable.
I'm pretty sure it was to promote the native apps.He said that "no one even knows" why the feature was introduced in the first place.
I'll just go out and say it. Anyone defending Musk here either hasn't read the twitter thread we're talking about, has no idea what they're talking about, or is outright incompetent.
The engineer Musk went after here easily made the best he possibly could have out of the situation by remaining professional and answering his boss's questions in a clear and competent manner. Sure, he could have just sucked up to Musk and taken the abuse, but why? Even with the layoffs in the news, there are still plenty of places hiring.
Is losing money forever a winning strategy? I don’t know what’s right for Twitter but at some point they have to make money or they go away.Charging money for features that are currently free and taking away features that have always been there… great way to keep your user base and grow your business!
So true. When I was sent to Korea for a couple of weeks I decided very quickly I didn't like Korean food too much, luckily I found a TGI Fridays just down the street from my hotel. I was a little worried my Korean boss would see my expense report and be mad.Oh but the culture there is very different than many western companies. You really are expected to live eat and breath Samsung. (There’s even “the Samsung Way” training you go through in Korea.)
Totally unlike Twitter at the moment.I tried using Mastadon, but it’s confusing.
Which is why Elon Musk bought the company in a leveraged buyout resulting in Twitter needing to pay the debt Elon took out buying the company. Is losing money forever a winning strategy? I don’t know what’s right for Twitter but at some point they have to make money or they go away.
That’s not how the hierarchy works. The CEO - and in this case the owner - can bring to the public whatever he wants. An employee can’t, especially if such employee is using his employment to write the public communication.
Fair to say the engineer knew what he was in for. Elon has created a terrible workplace environment. He doesn’t value his employees whatsoever.I don't publicly disrespect my boss, do you? Sure I can say whatever I want but I also am an intelligent human being and I know that would be frowned upon.
You already didn't know that because the metadata that contains that information is stripped from photos upon upload. All you know is the Twitter client (e.g., Twitter for iPhone, Twitter for Android, Tweetbot, Twitter Web App, etc.) from which the photo was uploaded, which might not match the device on which the photo was taken.I just thought of something. Now we won’t know if people used an iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy, or Pixel Pro to take a photo. 😭😭😭
A suspension or leave without pay for 2 weeks or something would have been more humble and reasonable instead of bluntly firing someone over that. The number of people on here that think publicly tweeting out anything negative about their boss won’t have consequences is astounding
With all the thumb-downs I guess many think it's OK to publicly embarrass one's boss and expect no adverse consequences. If I wrote something like that in public about my boss I’d be fired too. And I work in government…
I hate musk but I agree with him. That feature is so useless everyone will forget about it in a few weeks. It wasn't necessarily to show what device, but to show what developer source. So besides Twitter for iPhone and Android, it would show 3rd party Twitter apps, social media management tools, simple bot programs, etc. Anyone can create something that uses Twitter's API and the name of their application (not necessarily an "app") would show. It was useful to know if a tweet was likely tweeted by a person or a script.

Weird.
Check the EXIF.🤓I just thought of something. Now we won’t know if people used an iPhone 14 Pro, Samsung Galaxy, or Pixel Pro to take a photo. Let the photography guessing games begin! 😭😭😭

when that boss incorrectly insults all the work you did, by all means, go for it.
maybe you don't have pride in your work, but some people do.
and judging from his twitter feed, the employee has been doing this for a while now so im pretty sure he was looking for an exit. he'll have no problem finding a new job working for a competent CEO.

"maybe you don't have pride in your work, but some people do."
Jeeez, stop it with the sideways insult.
At the end of the day, publicly insult your boss, expect to get fired.
