Just because I think the iPhone is not the best phone ever, it does not make me an Apple hater.

Who said you were?

I just haven't drunk the kool aid like many here have.

Of course, anyone who disagrees with your opinion is a kool aid drinker.

You're drinking plenty of kool aid yourself. It's just another flavor. ;)

I come here to read about Apple related news and to see just how biased some people are.

Thanks for the personal attacks though. Love it.

I don't think "personal attacks" means what you think it means.

It is what it is.

The only reason I would like to see the iPhone become available on Verizon now, is too see so many Android supporters all of a sudden have a change of heart.

"Oh yeah I just decided Android wasn't as good as I thought it was."

Of course the android will outsell the iPhone, but can you show me one single model of an android based phone that comes even close to selling as many units as the iPhone?

it's like saying GM(who has hundreds of models) sells more than BMW(with only a handful of models)

This is a good point... What version of Android OS? What Brand? What model? What we are seeing now is exactly what is happening in the Computer market... 1 OS + Gazillions of brands (Toshiba, Lenovo, Dell, HP, Acer, panasonic, Sony...) For the Android phone: the same: 1 OS and sooooo many vendors... Lucky for the buyers, the apps should work on every phone given the unique OS... But one never knows...

The only chance i see better sales for Apple, is to expand the number of carriers... Seems like ATT is the point of contention now... We'll see!

Still sticking to Apple: quality, apps, simple interface... over the years my experience with Apple has always been great and i will remain a loyalist!

I dont think Open source is the main winner here; yes, its great for app developers, but the main win is the availability of android phones itself on almost every mobile carrier. If the iPhone where available for the same amount of mobile carriers that android has, I would think the numbers would favor iPhone than android.

Agree. Apple really needs to use some common sense and open the phone to all carriers. I'm still not sure why they went with AT&dropyourcall I guess they gave them a better deal in the long run. Still, it would make sense have at least one other carrier open.

Apple knows they need to release their phone on other networks to significantly grow their US business and cell phone market share. The biggest thing keeping them from skyrocketing past all competition is the exclusivity with AT&T.

The geeks wax poetic about Android, but the non-geeks I know who bought Android devices seem to have a consensus opinion: "Well, it's no iPhone, but I couldn't get the iPhone on my carrier..."

Not a stellar endorsement in my book.

Wait until Windows Phone 7 Series (or whatever they're calling it this week) enters the fray.

The race for the bottom begins anew!

Well, look at it like this. Everyone already HAS the stupid iphone why would we be buying one every quarter? Everyone I know has it, seen everywhere. The people that buy the assdroid are still in contract with current providers. They can easily upgrade and stay with the same network. But iPhone IS the phone of choice.

5 Reasons why someone doesn't have the iphone.

1.) They hate Apple and don't want to "give in".
2.) They have a contract with another provider.
3.) They have been just to lazy to switch.
4.) They have never seen or used one.
5.) Mom and Dad wont let them.

PERIOD.

That's a very odd comparison.

iPhone is a Smartphone (Hardware and Software), and the Android is just an open source Smartphone OS that can be used by anyone.

It's like comparing the MacBook Air with Windows 7. The one is Hardware/Software and the other one is just Software.

I'm glad to hear Andriod is "sticking" and becoming a real option. I've used every iPhone model and while it's a great phone, I've been looking for a change, just to see what else is out there. The addition of the iPad has made my iPhone pretty much obsolete in the app department anyhow. My current 3GS is pretty much only a phone, text and MyWi hotspot for the iPad. I am looking forward to the EVO 4G coming out next month, I'll probably wait till both the new iPhone and the EVO are launched and make my decision after I see some reviews, but it's the first phone and 4G option here in KC that has my interest peaked.

I would have no issue leaving AT&T for a 4G connection that would cover 90% of the area's I travel on a daily basis. I hope Android becomes more uniform in their OS versions and work out any issues they may have. As stated before there is plenty of room for more than one quality smartphone, I welcome anyone that can build and support one. Options are always good!

A few days ago I heard a loud "thud" against the side of my house. I went out to see what happened and laying on the ground was a smashed Android phone.
My neighbor was standing there and said he was so pissed off with this piece of crap phone he just threw it... Said he didn't mean to hit the house. :)

I showed him my iPhone and what it could do... His whole family now has iPhones and loves them.

All of you Android open source boys can say what you want... I have looked at many many phones and none of them compare to the iPhone... Not even close.

Sounds like iPhone is right for them. When you are so dumb smashing phone rather than return/exchange it, then Android is not for you.

I suppose those of us that had one and didn't like it as a phone don't exist eh?

I'm one of these people. Got rid of my iPhone 3G a couple of weeks ago and I am now paying £15 less per month for an HTC Desire which does more than my iPhone ever could.

Apple will be doing it's thing no matter what. I don't see how this is competition to Apple. iPhone is a full package and Android is just an OS. Android experience will vary.

I don't think Apple wants to dominate any market, their only goal is to make the best possible product. Dominating the market is just a side-effect. :D

You must've spent all day coming up with that clever gem.

1.) They hate Apple and don't want to "give in".
No, I don't hate Apple. That's why I have an iPod, a Mac Pro, a MacBook and an iPad.

2.) They have a contract with another provider.
No, I'm with AT&T and am happy with them and have no plans to switch to another carrier.

3.) They have been just to lazy to switch.
No, I've been at the Apple Store twice in the past month and could've switched while I was there if I wanted to.

4.) They have never seen or used one.
No, owned one for a year and a half.

5.) Mom and Dad wont let them.
No, I'm an adult and on a contract of my own.

FAIL.

Three things to keep in mind.

1. Market share doesn't typically reflect the actual units sold, just one platform's slice of the overall pie;
2. Apple is gearing up for a major iPhone update (which needless to say has made some big headlines) which means fewer people are buying iPhones in anticipation of the update;
3. The pie is smaller right now being post-holiday, so the bar for gaining market share is set a little lower.

Let's revisit this metric next fall and winter to see where things stand for a better picture of the iPhone-vs-Android situation.

Just curious: anyone have a link to the actual unit sales?

I'm afraid it's a failure of imagination.

1.) They hate Apple and don't want to "give in".
Nope. I have a Mac Mini, iPod Touch, have owned 4 generations of the Macbook and every version of the iPhone. I currently own a Droid and an HTC Incredible.
2.) They have a contract with another provider.
I'm not on contract with Verizon and have no problems switching to any other provider at will.
3.) They have been just to lazy to switch.
See above
4.) They have never seen or used one.
See above. I've owned every version of the iPhone.
5.) Mom and Dad wont let them.
Weak.

You aren't very good at generalizations IMO.

I will jump off the iphone band wagon if they do not move it to other carriers in June. iphone is cool, but not that cool. I am tired of JB-ing my phone each time I have to update and I am tired of being so locked into the OS.. You can do many things on android without needing to "unlock" and is exactly why I won't have issues changing to it..

This kind of business is why I think Apple is just as bad and worse than MS...

Android is getting better and better every single day, its user experience might not be as good as iPhone, but it is open and everyone can modify it and improve it; and proof of this is HTC and other manufacturers :)

lol - sounds awesome.

Many things...except for, you know, updating your device to the latest Android OS release. ;)

This is an assumption, but I would think that the majority of the coming-up iPhone sales will be to people who already own an iPhone. Geez, it would have been out for 4 years by then. You would think if you're going to get an iPhone, you'd already have one.

I'd love to go back in time to the iPhone 2G and when people previously brought up their reservations regarding it people just said "WHO NEEDS THOSE THINGS I HAVE THE WHOLE WEB IN MY HANDS"

Fast forward now that in my opinion the iPhone is a very awesome smart phone since they added so many features that make a smart phone a smart phone (IMO) i wonder if people would still be fine with the original OS (remember, no APp store as well).

Just thought i'd share that small thought i had.

Is this much of a surprise? Apple essentially only have one device to sell, whereas the number of Android handsets is growing almost exponentially. Android will be the go-to OS of choice for a large portion of smartphone manufacturers, making it almost the Windows of the mobile world.

I agree. How many Android phones are there? What are the prices? The phones are currently available on T-Mobile and Verizon.

Apple has 2 Gens currently, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, being carried by AT&T only in the US. I think if the iPhone was being carried by Verizon this would be a different story. I think we should come back to this once the Apple iPhone is being carried by another carrier or once they release a new iPhone model which will probably be soon.
