I currently have a nexus 5 going to be switching to the iphone6 had enough of android! Going to get the iPhone on its second batch hopefully the second run has no glitches or what not

I had an iphone 3g,4 and an original iPad in the past but I've been using android for the past 3 years or so (Galaxy Nexus (lost it) Galaxy S3 and Nexus 5 since it came out) I even had a windows phone 7 device at some point!

I've been a mac user since 2005 but on the mobile side the small screens and lack of customization led to what I felt was a stale experience after a while. Apple's decision to only include 256mb of ram on the original ipad frustrated me as an early adopter and left me stuck on ios 5. By comparison, android's openness and generally beefy hardware specs was a breath of fresh air!

I've enjoyed my time on android and would have no issues using my nexus 5 for another year and have no qualms recommending it to friends looking for the most bang for their bucks.

That being said I bought an iPhone 6 today and while I haven't used it long enough to make a definitive decision, my first impressions are mostly positive.

1) I love touch ID! It's quick, accurate and confidence inspiring security. I had been using a pattern to unlock my N5 because PINS and passwords felt like a chore. Considering I've figured out some of my android using colleagues' pattern over time, I suspect the opposite was also true. (the smudges it left on the screen were almost a giveaway)

2) Altought the display's specs aren't impressive per say I find it looks brighter and sharper than the N5. I can't say I miss the extra .3inches so far.

3) The iSight camera is great. Much better than the N5 but everybody knew that already...

3) Even with the apple leather case, the phone is thin and feels great to hold and use. I tried the 6+ but it felt unwieldy to use with one hand. I could probably get used to it but they were sold out anyways.

4)Call quality is great. People had a hard time hearing me on some occasions with the N5..

5)I like the changes apple made to iOS 8. I really disliked the previous iOs keyboard. I use swiftkey on android and while I haven't installed it on my new iphone yet, I find the new default keyboard to be a lot better.

Can't comment on battery life yet but I'm not exactly a heavy user so I'm not overly concerned.

Looking forward to play with it some more

I have been using a Galaxy S4 for the last year and a half and now have a 6. There are definitely some things I miss about Android. Just my initial thoughts:

Like about iOS/iPhone 6:
-Touch ID is the S$%&!
-I like having everything integrated with iTunes (music, videos, tones, podcasts, etc). It's just much cleaner.
-I think ApplePay will be awesome.
-I can now use audiobooks with iTunes. I don't like the non-iOS options.
-Visual voicemail is cleaner, less clunky.

Don't like about iOS/iPhone 6:
-Contact pictures are these TINY little circles.
-Would like a 5" screen.
-I hate how the weather in notification is only text AND it takes up like 30% of the window.
-Widgets in notification center...I dunno.
-The default keyboard (swift key) is not always showing, I have to click the globe to bring it up sometimes (I hope that's a glitch).
-I wish the camera would use the whole screen.

Miss about Android:
-Setting default apps
-Google Maps
-Contact pictures in mail and text message thread
-Widgets
-5" screen
-Having my wallpaper scroll as I change home screens
-More useful notification shade
-Haptic feedback

Just a few thoughts.

I'd like to hear the impressions of Android users that jumped to the iPhone 6 or plus.

Switched from a Galaxy S5 to the 6 Plus.. This hardware and software (iOS 8) feel like mostly copies of what Android was already doing for years.. And I'm completely OK with that. Makes it feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds. Loving this new iPhone.

Depending on what aspects you're talking about, it could go either way. They're both a copy of each other if you really want to get down to it.

They definitely do borrow features from each other. But a lot of features (not all) from iOS 7/8 were featured that I loved on Android..they finally brought enough over to bring me back to iOS and I couldn't be happier about it.

I had 2.3 gingerbread android phone for 18 months and while android itself was fun to use the weak hardware and lack of regular updates let the experience down considerably. So much stuff could be done even without having to root your phone. Then I switched to Lumia 520 and it was a breath of fresh air the simple yet elegant ui is great windows phone 8 is a cool ecosystem.Just this week I bought iPhone 3GS with ios 6 which is a little inferior to iphone 6 i would guess and I like the OS it's smooth and fluid and the phone is also well built although camera quality is not so good but everything else is good.So I like all 3 platforms equally well.

Playing with the iPhone 6 plus right now and find myself mostly using 2 hands. With the Note 3, I can easily use 1 hand using Samsungs one handed keyboard and the android back button. On the iPhone, I have been using SwiftKey but at times it defaults to the stock keyboard. Will give it another few days to see if I will miss the file system, ir blaster, removable battery, etc.

Glad I'm back. Ip6. Previously had Iphone 5 and 5s, Galaxy S4 and LG G2. The G2 is a fantastic phone, but the Ip6 is just so smooth and it is very nice to be back in the Apple system.

I'm Back

My experience seems like many of the above posters - had an earlier version of the iPhone but was wanting a larger screen. I bought a Galaxy Note 2 which was fine size-wise (got the 6+ as you would guess).

The android phones were/are well made and function well. I didn't know much about android and in hindsight I would have been better off with a GPE device as my main frustration was that the manufacturer seemed to make good phones but didn't keep the OS up to date (it still isn't). I ended up rooting the phone and put Cyanomodgen ROMs onto it to get access to kit-kat features but then I lost the Note specific functions. Each time I installed an updated ROM, I seemed to have one issue or another.

I think most manufacturers make good phones and even though I'm a tech guy, I didn't want to have to continually re-install/re-configure the way the phone would work. One example is the attitude android takes to memory - switching apps & data to the micro-SD card was just painful. Why not just make the SD card a more or less invisible extension to the in-phone memory. They may have a cloud philosophy - fine - but don't force me to use it.

Some may think the iOS is less flexible and that the 6/6+ doesn't represent the leading edge of technology available. There may be something to that but I guess everything is a trade-off and for ease of use and interoperability of the Apple products, I've made the right choice for me. YMMV.

I know some people here at work. They hated their gigantic Androids and said they have been waiting for Apple to do this.

They saw me playing with my iPhone 6 Plus during break time.
Doesn't make any damn sense.. Let's see I'm not liking my 5.5inch phone but would like another 5.5 inch

Back in 2013 I went from 4S to the S4 and then went to S5. I did enjoy using the S5 for a bit but after a while it become laggy. So I decided to come back to the dark side and get the iPhone 6+.

Things i will miss on my S5:
-Widgets
-Customization
-Water/Dust Resistance

But I will still keep my S5 as my back up if something happens to my 6+

I have moved to an Ipad with an LG G2 and find this the perfect combination for me. I can use apps like MYSMS to text and pick up text from my Ipad phone or computer, due to the LG G2 not being locked down. The Ipad also gives me good robust surfing experience at home. The LG G2 gives me widgets etc when I am out and about.

Came back from a Nexus 5.

Honestly, I didn't expect some huge change. The phone feels par for the course from the iPhone 5.

I am willing to give the widget in notification concept time, because I actually didn't enjoy the widget implementation in Android as much as expected. It felt like the weather widget or the Facebook widget was just always in the way and something to scroll through.

Well I went to the 5 from a droid x in 2012 and I will never own another phone other then the iphone. That droid was a POS. Within months of buying it the phone started having problems. Accessing music would crash it, taking a video would freeze it, most of the pix i took were corrupted. My 5 runs the same as it did when I first turned it on. Its build quality is unmatched. The battery still holds a charge very well.

I've owned and used every major OS.

I too had the original DROID X. I even went as far as to start running custom ROMs just to try and make the thing usable. That actually did help, when the ROMs weren't buggy.

Before the X I had one of the first Android phones on Sprint (it was an HTC Hero if I remember correctly), also a poorly executed device.

Before the HTC, I had an iPhone 3G (that I loved). I was younger at the time and was on my mom's plan. She switched to Sprint so I was forced to give up the iPhone. That was a nightmare.

Prior to that I was a BlackBerry fanboy. I was addicted - CrackBerry was home to me haha. Jumping from BlackBerry to the iPhone 3G had its share of problems. If you'll remember, BlackBerry email at the time was World Class and Apple was playing catch up.

Today, I'm on the iPhone 5 on Verizon and I will be picking up the iPhone 6 later today.

Now that I've seen it all. No one executes like Apple. The Android vs. iOS debate is much like Windows vs. OS X.

Apple's products are locked down and don't offer significant customization; however, they flat out work and hold up over time. That's not to say there aren't bugs. There are. As it relates to the iPhone, these bugs tend to get worked out and you're left with a device, albeit somewhat limited at times, that is as close to flawless as you're going to get.

My largest beef with Android was that the updates were hit or miss. You might get the latest greatest, you might not. Look at iOS on the other hand. Technically, you can install iOS 8 on your iPhone 4S if you like! That's crazy but also great for those who can't afford to upgrade or that don't have access to the newer hardware. Heck, I'm running iOS 8 on my iPad 2!

What OS is the Droid X running? I bet you it isn't Kit Kat.

My iPhone 5 is an absolute gem. It's really been perfection for me since I ordered two years ago. I'm hoping the iPhone 6 will be the same.

I wouldn't touch an Android phone unless it were Google's. Your safest bet is to go with their hardware to ensure you get updates etc.

I would guarantee that most coming from Android are loving the iPhone thus far and will come to realize that the iOS environment is just better. Again, does it have its limitations? Yes. However, those limitations are what make the phone operate so well.

Don't like about iOS/iPhone 6:

-The default keyboard (swift key) is not always showing, I have to click the globe to bring it up sometimes (I hope that's a glitch).

Go to keyboard in settings and move swiftkey to top. Also, delete all other keyboards (English I believe). Your keyboard should now always default to Swiftkey. This worked for me.

I went back to Apple with a 6+ after owning owning a Galaxy Nexus and Samsung GS4. I was just waiting for a bigger screen to come back home.

What I miss so far with Android:

- back button
- app drawer

That's it...lol

iPhone 2g -> iPhone 4s -> Note 1 -> iPhone 5 -> Note 3 -> iPhone 6 Plus

I just like new tech...not brand loyal, unlike my wife who wants nothing but iPhones.

Switched from S5 to iPhone 6. iOS is still lacking in a lot of areas...

Things I miss

Google now
Back button
Attaching files in email
Notification bar

Same here switched from S5 to the 6 Plus.

I honestly don't miss Google Now as I never used it on my S5.
The back button is good but I always hit the back button when on app when using one handed.

It's going to take a while for me to get used to the iphone again especially that iPhones don't have a physical back button.

And what I do like so far is lock screen notifications!

I used Google now quite a bit. "Ok Google" and loved getting notifications for traffic on my route to work or the airport.

I keep hitting the right "space" next to the home button.

Will be interesting to know, but I wonder how many of them would have MacRumors accounts yet, or even know it exists.

I had other iPhones. The original, 3, and 4s. I never came here after going to android. However now I'm back. Surprised I remember my password.
