Why not? Everyone can use an iPhone. That is the point. They are simple to use, while also holding incredibly powerful capabilities.

At that age - an iPod Touch or iPad is a much better bet than an iPhone. Do they need LTE/cellular capabilities at that age? No. My daughter is 6. She has an iPad. We can iMessage us or family members. An iPhone would be a huge waste of monthly cost and expense.

All of my other kids had a phone at age 13 - a flip phone. Once they showed us they could take care of it for a year and they saved up some, they could get an iPhone - but they had to pay for part of it.

“How stupid of Apple to sell the iPhone 8 and then offer a better phone that’s more expensive! Ridiculous, they clearly can’t run a business!”

Then this article comes out. :)

Is it true store employees get no commission? I remember a few months after the Apple Watch was out, I tried to convince my spouse to get one since I loved mine. When we were there, I tried to tell my spouse all the features and the staff simply said "It is not worth buying", which was kind of dumb.

Would you have preferred they told ya to buy a half baked product? Seems staff was honest, which is rare these days.

It's also a myth for people to suggest Apple is elitist and out-of-reach of the lower earners. The truth is Apple now has an incredible iPhone within reach of literally every budget. They have a fantastic range of awesome products.

You won't be disappointed whatever iPhone you buy. There is nothing better than iPhone.

really? Apple isn't for elitist? How about those gold watches.. how did that go.. another amazing idea from Angela? Can't she just take her 10M a year and get lost...

If anything, the iphone 8 form factor is 4 years old, which is the worst part about it. Only really low end android phones still retain benzels as bad a iphone 8 has!!! Not to mention how much siri sucks compared to google now, and that is at every price range ;)!

Is this a sales pitch? COME ON! Do you work for Apple? As much as I love iphones, i'm not blind to their downfalls, and the fact how good android phones have gotten. If you do work for Apple, please try google now, it will give you a good wow :) And let's talk about those macbooks, macbook pros, mac pro, and dongles!

Tim.... is that you?

In all seriousness though, I agree with you.

What about 64 - gap - 256 GB, Angela?

Well, to be honest, you either want to store stuff on your phone or you don't. My mother-in-law's 32GB iPhone has served her well for years and my wife's space requirements have plummeted too since she started using Apple Music. 64GB is more than fine for most people these days with all the iCloud stuff. If you actually want to keep stuff on your phone then 128GB is probably not going to be enough anyway.

I'm sure Apple has looked into the storage usage and the capacities purchased and realise this, hence why they just have two sizes now - one for those that don't really store stuff on their phones and one for those that do.

I was thinking about this myself. I said "If I am going to pay 1k for a phone, can I atleast get it with 128 GB?

I started researching it and I think its probably related to all the shortages going on now with SSD chips that are causing the prices to go up. If that wasn't a issue, I think they would of had 2 modules 128 and 512 (or maybe even 1TB).

If you buy them outright, then you can get very affordable cell plans. It is not a crazy idea at all.

My kids are both using iPads and they are much younger. When the time is right for them, I won't hesitate to get them iPhones. Is 6 or 7 the right age? I don't know yet. I haven't crossed that bridge. But I don't think they will be too much older than 6-7 when they do get their first iPhones.

I’m going to be vlogging in 4K so the 256 is a must

Apple Store employees won't try to upsell customers to the iPhone X, according to Apple's retail chief Angela Ahrendts.
This makes sense if this is true:
Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputable Apple analyst at KGI Securities, recently said only 2-3 million iPhone X units will be available to purchase when the device launches. Pre-orders begin October 27 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time.
Are to upsell a phone that they don't have supply of.

If they have no stock left for the iPhone X, will they be encouraging anyone to buy their most expensive phone anyway? "Hey customer, if you wait 3 to 4 months (or longer) you could buy the iPhone X!". I'm sorry, but I do not feel many people will wanna wait for it, cause let's be honest, most the people that want the iPhone X will probably already know it will sell like hotcakes and have already preordered. Apple just wants to sell stock and earn money, in any way possible. Selling the iPhone 8 (Plus) will improve Apple's profits massively.

As a former Apple Store employee, this is how things always worked. The idea is to match the customer with the product which is truly right for them.
From what I've seen, this is true. The employees have always been very honest about that. One time, my friend wanted to blow his money and buy a Mac Pro, and the guy said he has no real use for it.

This is kinda stupid because of course Apple won't be up selling Cust to the iPhone X. If they did it would be like ok Cust here why don't you buy the X, don't you have enough money for it? It's only $1,100.00 aren't you rich enough? It would be bad marketing that would backfire on the employees out front.

This is a good thing. I hope they keep the traditional iPhone form factor around for a while, as I don't really have any interest in the iPhone X. OLED screens are way too unnaturally color-saturated and I like my TouchID.

And of course you came to this conclusion after having personally used a yet-unreleased iPhone X.

I don't think singling out a single edition product as proof Apple might be elitist afterall is fair. They offered incredibly affordable Apple Watch options too when they first launched. They just wanted to try offering a super classy gold version that might have appealed to the more affluent in society. It was just one option, and it didn't take long for them to ditch it.

iPhone 8 - the form factor may be the same, but Apple has redesigned the iPhone 8. Anyone who has held an iPhone 8 will tell you it doesn't look or feel the same as an iPhone 7.

I do not work for Apple. I'm just a customer who uses their products with much joy and happiness.

My 1 1/2-year old nephew uses an iPhone 6s Plus. The only thing he can do right now is play videos. I don't think he needs an upgrade right now till his needs and productivity expand.
