Can`t see you so sad bro. Here you go =)

I thing there`s too many dashes (NC, CC and this)

Before: "It's not obvious how to unlock the phone! I handed my friend my phone with iOS 7 on it and he kept sliding up to unlock!"

After: "This new arrow is annoying."

I was one of those who thought the old lock screen was too confusing. I have had an iPhone since launch day '07, and had trouble unlocking it at first.

Now, I'm one of those that think the arrow looks bad.

But that's what design is. Design isn't just making things look great. If that's all it was it would be really easy. Design means making compromises and finding balance between style and function. Design means that sometimes you have to add a silly little arrow even though I guarantee you that no one hates this arrow more than the designers themselves.

And again it's Beta, so we will see.

Here's an idea...

Apple seems to be eliminating text in certain user action elements and replacing them with icons. This can be seen in Safari's bookmarks menu.

I see no reason this change shouldn't also be implemented on the lock screen. At this point, every user on multiple platforms is aware an action needs to take place to unlock the phone. Do we really need text stating, "slide to unlock"?

By simply removing the text and keeping the arrow, it keeps the interface clean while also allowing for a clear message to the user.

I think this is a bit over thought. There can't be many people who have never touched an iPhone at least once before buying it so 99.9%+ of all users know what to do. The newer users upgrading to the new iOS already have the basics and still know how to open it or will figure it out with insignificant effort.

Personally I think "slide to unlock" is sufficient but if Apple wants to include that little arrow then okay - it doesn't look that bad.

I say remove it all. It seems redundant when every user is aware an action needs to take place...

Just curious why you think the arrow looks bad?

But people do, hence this thread.

Not really. This thread and anything on this site does not account for even 10% of the general iPhone population. If you compare the # of people in this thread who are somehow outraged and wronged by the arrow to the total number of people who have downloaded iOS 7, I bet you'll find out that overall, no one cares.
Nancy from Africa is right.

WOW!

That arrow is HORRIBLE!

It ruins everything!

OK...for real...this is something that deserves it's own thread because of it's immense importance and incredible visual impact?

Yes, I know that this is a discussion forum and people come to talk about "issues". In case it's nor crystal clear, I would suggest that this is so trivial that discussion is not warranted...

But that's just one man's opinion...:D

How low does your IQ have to be if it takes you more than a few seconds to figure out the lockscreen? There are 4 things to do and one of them is labeled. Plus idk if it's new to beta 4 but if you tap the screen, it moves in the direction it's supposed to unlock in. The 7 year old at my job figured it out nigh-instantly lol

Arrows are fine with me. What I don't like are the bars on the top and bottom. They aren't needed. They aren't on the home screen or inside apps so why are they on the lock screen.

Well the overall general iPhone population do not use iOS 7. It seems to be a big issue on here. Thats what I mean.

God I must be the only person who agrees with OP. I don't really like beta 4, it massively broke messages which worked fine until now :/

iOS 6 and prior has a big ass arrow so I guess Steve Jobs really thought we were idiots. :D

Its called a Beta. Things will break from beta to beta (the remote controls on the music app for instance). FWIW, Messages is working fine for me and for the most (since it's not been mentioned on these boards).

Hello there.

I think this little arrow is most conspicuous element in beta 4.

I don`t like the little arrow afore "slide to unlock". Home screen became asymmetrical.

For what it's worth (nothing), I agree with you, OP. The arrow doesn't fade in sync with the rest of the text right next to it and adds an element of asymmetry. The camera icon does the same thing, but I'm fine with it for whatever reason.

Anyway, now that the chevrons are gone, I can't see the need for the arrow at all. It says "slide to unlock", the color fades from left to right, and the entire lock screen bounces when you touch it.

Remove the arrow; users already have 3 indicators.
