Ah, please, it's just an arrow. Swipe and be done with it:rolleyes:
Hey, maybe it was actually placed there at least partially to be somewhat more annoying in order to give you more of an urge to swipe it away? ;):apple:

For me, I think it's just the style of the arrow that I don't like rather than the fact it's there at all. It should really be on the right side, and have a more curved design, similar to the Notification Centre and Control Centre lines but obviously pointy.

They may change the arrow throughout the beta process.

I hate it. It just stares at me. Mocking me!! :D

At least make a settings to turn it on or off
Far too many other much more useful and probably needed things to have settings added for (that Apple hasn't so far) than something like this.

I'm the type who can't let the toilet paper or paper towel roll go under rather than over the roll.

I was the same way until I got a cat. Now the toilet paper has to hang behind the roll so that if the cat starts spinning it it won't unroll! :D

The original 'Slide to Unlock' was a very unique feature that no other phone had, when the iPhone originally launched in 2007. I wished they had done something more unique in iOS 7 because other phones already employ similar unlocking patterns.

Anyway, I really like the little arrow and I can safely say that I have OCD too. I like my things arranged in a perfect pattern but I haven't noticed anything that irks me about the lock screen.

So everyone copied Apple, and now Apple has to come up with something else? And what if Apple did? Everyone will probably just copy Apple again. How many ways can there be to unlock a phone before it gets ridiculous? I don't get this constantly wanting new stuff -- if it works, just leave it.

Plus, talk about confusing people. Slide to unlock works just fine as far as I'm concerned.

UX Designer here. Up until this last beta I'd been swiping up, right and left trying to unlock the screen even though I've been using an iPhone since 2008. With the arrow there and the little Control Center down-pointing arrow gone, My brain doesn't get confused any more. There are some things you can't throw in a tutorial for and expect everyone to instantly learn what they need to do.

But if you have used iPhones for years, it should be second nature to swipe left to right to unlock surely?

That's the thing about our brains. Some people's brains seem to be more sensitive to visual cues, so they get more influenced by the arrow pointing up (in betas 1-3) than by their muscle memory from the years of using iOS.

And also, let's not forget that there are still people who will be coming to iOS for the first time, or maybe they've switched to Android or Win8 and then come back. If they see the up arrow from betas 1-3, or they see just the "slide to unlock" text with no arrows and the very subtle gradient animation sweeping left to right, they may very well not know which way to slide.

Totally understand that people who have switched from Android/WP will need some sort of clue as to which way to swipe, but for people who have used iOS for years, I find it hard to believe that you would suddenly forget to swipe left to right.

Thats just my opinion.

It's not that I forget. It's that I react more strongly to a visual key like the up arrow in betas 1-3. Of course after the first time, I knew that the swipe direction hasn't changed and I was still supposed to swipe from left to right, but I sort of had to keep reminding my brain to ignore the up arrow each time. Does that make any sense?

When an iOS user gets a big ui update and they first see iOS 7 and see the slide to unlock screen with no arrow and the control center arrow is there, regardless what their previous experience was, they more times than not swiped up.

Believe it or not but visual queues are more powerful than you think even against your common sense experiences.

I think it looks terrible as well. They need to make it the same thickness/style as the NC and CC bars. I think that'd look much better.

I also wouldn't mind them turning them back to arrows. I did have some subconscious trouble at first. I knew how to unlock but the arrows just caused me to swipe the wrong way but I got over that in a few days.

It makes sense. It's probably because I watched the WWDC keynote and that showed the option for CC on the lock screen and how to activate it. So I knew it wouldn't be to unlock the phone.

Same here. I couldn't believe I was suddenly having trouble unlocking my phone. I thought about comparatively squeezing my wife's fingers to see if I was having a stroke. If Apple didn't think it was a big deal they wouldn't have changed it.

Hello there.

I think this little arrow is most conspicuous element in beta 4.

I don`t like the little arrow afore "slide to unlock". Home screen became asymmetrical.

Users which used iPhone before iOS7 shouldn`t have unlock problems at all.

For the new users Apple should implement some kind of "tutorial mode" like it done in the "Cut the rope" game.

Once user does the action right, the tutorial tips stops showing. I think it would be nice and cool.

What you think?

Dude, seriously? Learn to pick your battles. It's a ****in arrow.

Yes, I`m seriously. If you are another one "psychologist" then I told them what they should do several posts before. Do you think I`m angry about this arrow? Or that I`ll shoot myself with my kalashnikov because of it? :D

I respect Apple (products) for striving for excellence. This arrow just looks imperfect to me. And I ask other`s opinion. That`s all, my friend.

Hey, it`s 200th post in this thread =)
