People should check what state and local laws say about U-turns. Where I live, the u-turn that eyoungren and you are discussing would be illegal. The lack of a sign doesn't make it legal.

In my state, they are legal except where posted otherwise and as long as the U-turn is performed from the leftmost lane. In any case, whether the U-turn is legal or not in the specific instance mentioned by eyoungren, it's certainly not a violation of the "No left turn" sign since it's by definition not a left turn.

Here we just use a roundabout!

We've got them too. I can understand how a dual-lane roundabout can be confusing to the uninitiated, but a single-lane roundabout? There's simply no excuse for people to be so confused. Don't enter until it's clear to enter and then just exit freely where you need to--it's not rocket science!

Now, dual-lane on the other hand . . .

Lol. Not watched that movie in years.

Well, unless there's a sign saying no u-turns there, that would be the way to do it if you needed to go that direction (assuming they're not cutting anyone off), and that would not qualify as a left turn, so they're not disobeying the signage and holding everyone else up. As I said in my #12 complaint in my OP, it drives me crazy when people try to make a difficult, risky left turn instead of simply making a U-turn down the road or finding some other way of turning around.
This is the entrance exit. That's the stop sign on the left. Underneath it is the 'No Left Turn' sign. This is facing north. Google Maps does not have images here showing south so I can't show you the front of the signs.

1.jpg

This is facing east (your left when exiting) and is westbound traffic.

2.jpg

This is facing west (your right when exiting) and is eastbound traffic.

People will make a small deviation to the right, then immediately bolt for the middle lane. None of these pictures show the actual heavy traffic at the time of day I go here, but both directions will be full of vehicles with no gaps.

This is why there is a no left turn sign here and why making a right turn then an immediate u-turn to get into the center lane is bad.

It's also why there is no u-turn sign here. Eastbound traffic has left the intersection and proceeded down the street before even getting to the entrance exit.

Some perspective…

Ok, so there is a no U-Turn sign. That settles it. They're in the wrong either way (though at least when they make a u-turn they're not holding you up like people trying to turn left).

Hate it when drivers pull out in front of me while I'm on the main road and going at a reasonable speed. If I have to slow down significantly to not hit them, it means they didn't actually have enough time to do that. What's even worse is when they do that and then proceed to drive super slow as a final insult.

It's even more special when they honk back at YOU, as if YOU were the one in the wrong 🙄 Then of course, there's the inverse of this, where someone does pull out with sufficient time/distance, but the driver in your position guns it to close the gap and pretend to be a victim who was just cut off (the same type of people who speed up to prevent you from passing them even they were going consistently slow the whole time before that).

I've read it many times before. When the other driver is overly courteous.🙄🙄

It just happened 30 minutes ago. I'm backing out my driveway and see a car on the street. Naturally, I stop and wait for them to drive by. What do they do? The stop before my driveway. Move it, ya jack wagon.😠 5 seconds later, they flash their light to indicate that they're letting me back out. Well ****! If the moron just kept on moving like I expected, I wouldn't have to waste time waiting for his ass to move. Overly courteous prick! They're also blocking half the road, making it harder to maneuver.

People have said it before, "When driving don't be courteous, be predictable."

YES!!! I wish I could "like" this comment 1000 times. NEVER give up the right of way unless to avoid a wreck!

So you were at fault then. Backing out of the drive. You should reverse into the drive.

The whole backing into parking spaces over here is a whole new annoyance. Well not to me because I do it, but it annoys a lot of people.

What they don't understand is when you drive a large vehicle, in my case a Crew Cab Super Duty, it is much easier to get into and out of a parking space when you are backed in. Now I do my best and try to find a space where I can pull through, but not always.

One funny thing about this is my SIL hates when people back in. Of course she drives a Mini so they are easy to park and doesn't understand. At the time she worked for a large metal fabricator and most of the guys drove trucks and backed in. She hated it because it made her wait an extra 15 seconds.

So one year I called the owner of the company and asked if he wanted to play a huge April Fool joke on her. She was the office manager so he walked into her office and asked her to type up and add a new policy to the handbook: The new policy was that all employees would be required to back in their parking spaces. 😂🤣😂

While this was just for a joke, Columbia Gas Transmission did require this because it cut down on fender benders in the parking lots.

I seriously can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. In case you aren't, @Mousse is most definitely not "at fault" for anything, the main reason being no accident occurred for anyone to be "at fault" for. Whether she was exiting her driveway going forwards or backwards (both are perfectly legal), anyone driving by on the street should not be stopping to let her out, because they have the right of way, and it creates confusion. Furthermore, were the cammer to "take them up" on their tacit offer to go first, but then the other driver continues forward and they collide, the person exiting their driveway would be at fault. "But it looked like they were letting me go" is not a legal excuse.

So you might prefer to back into your driveway, but that doesn't make others "wrong"/"at fault" for not doing so, nor does it really have anything to do with the situation Mousse described, as the other driver could've done the same thing had she been going forward. And of course the specific driveway layout and surrounding area will make a big difference in whether it makes more sense to pull in forwards or backwards (or it could be that neither way has an advantage).

I guess I need to add to my list smokers who throw their cigarette butts out the window. Ever heard of an ash tray, idiots?! I had to call 911 this morning to report not one but TWO brush fires along the interstate. I guarantee you they were caused by lit cigarette butts. But I don't care if they're 100% extinguished...DON'T LITTER!

Not being sarcastic. Backing out from a drive or a minor road into a busier one is not allowed here. It’s just common sense to reverse into a drive.

Our landlord at work insists we reverse park in the car park. I always do anyway. Then my EV can charge for free easier.

Couldn't resist this thread.....;)
Was out walking today, and passed behind a 'parked hybrid car' outside a shop (store if your American).

As I walked by, there was ZERO sound/noise from the car in electric mode, so I was unaware they were backing out.
They did stop when spotted me though.

Electric/Hybrid cars should be fitted with reversing beepers.....🤨

Most EV’s admit an audible hum at low speeds as a safety measure. Mine certainly does. As do Tesla’s as I can hear when my boss arrives in his when I’m in the office.

Or beer cans on the ATV trails.

Borla is making exhausts with speakers that are tied into the car's "throttle" so sport car type EV's can sound like big V8's.

No thanks. I’m done with noisy ICE cars or trying to replicate it. I much prefer the quiet of an EV.
