Another 10.4.9 Build

According to both ThinkSecret and AppleInsider, new builds of 10.4.9 have been released to developers.

The build lists no known issues, similar to the last build earlier this month, and AppleInsider points out that the lone major change in this build has been a bug fix in ImageIO that had affected image import speeds. Previous builds of 10.4.9 already listed over 40 other bug fixes.

Both sites indicate that it looks as though this will be the last minor update to Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger" (other than security updates).

looks like they are really taking their time with this one instead of just shoving it out the door... trying to make sure it's really good. Kind of indicative of it being the last update.
 
Does anyone have any info as to the amount of time between the last point updates and new release OS's? ie between 10.3.9(?) and 10.4

Also, I'm interested to see the size of this update. Are we going to be looking at another 100MB+ download?

Delta updaters:
Intel ~ 170MB
PPC ~ 70MB

Combo updaters:
Intel ~ 315MB
PPC ~ 163MB

10.3.9 was released on about April 16, 2005, while Tiger came out on April 29. Tiger's release date was announced and it was open for preorders as of about April 1, IIRC.

Doesn't mean I can't be interested.
Though it does seem to me that 10.5 is closer than we think. If indications are correct that this will be the last update, I couldn't imagine Leopard being four months off.
In saying that, the last couple of updates have been very worthwhile, and with the amount of time Apple have spend perfecting it, it is sure to please.

So, that means Leopard in 13 days, guaranteed, right?? WHOOOOO!!!

If only life were so simple...
 
Of course 10.4.9 would be the last update, thats why they're taking their time. Unfortunately, there'll still be issues which haven't been addressed even after the update....a la Safari & iSync's miniscule list of compatible phones amongst others.
 
Next tuesday..

.. could be te day that this update comes out then, can't wait ;-).

Leakage in Safari is really starting to make me crazy (RAM usage went from ~265MB to 650MB last night after I started Safari and let it sit for a little while)...I really hope they fix this soon.

Are you sure the leaks are actually in Safari, or in Quicktime? Embeded quicktime movies regularly bring Safari to a crawl and often lead to hangs or crashes. I have noticed this behavior on both my brand new Intel MacBook (less than 2 weeks old) and G5 Quad.

No. There's always a final update to the old OS around the time the new OS is released. That way Apple can fix the last remaining bigger issues with the old OS and secure compatibility between the old OS and the new OS.

Whether 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 will be the last update is only known to Apple but that a final 10.4 update will be around the 10.5 release is inevitable.

Gotcha, so if this is indeed the final update, we could look for 10.5 sometime in the upcoming weeks?
