No. There's always a final update to the old OS around the time the new OS is released. That way Apple can fix the last remaining bigger issues with the old OS and secure compatibility between the old OS and the new OS.

Whether 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 will be the last update is only known to Apple but that a final 10.4 update will be around the 10.5 release is inevitable.

so does this give any hint as to when leopard is coming out? say like 3 months from now or what not?

Whether there is a leak or not, Leopard will fix it. XCode is being updated to perform automatic garbage collection. In layman's terms, this means that leaks should be a thing of the past.

Garbage collection only helps reclaim memory that's no longer referenced by the program. It's possible to have logic errors where "leaked" memory is still referenced, but is not being cleaned up.

Geez, you people who are waiting to order for leopard.. Here's an idea. How about you order now,and when leopard is released, you go buy it.

I fail to see a problem.

Personally, I'm waiting for:

1. Santa Rosa and the GMA x3000
2. Leopard
3. Higher resolution displays

But all these things are kind of tied together, both in enabling each other, and in their release timeframes.

I'm expecting Leopard to be a huge disappointment. There will be no new finder, no new UI and no secret features, simply because I think these features and new designs would have appeared in a beta already. It wouldn't make sense to hold these back now that Vista is out. On the contrary, showcasing the new and improved and soon to be released Osx could make people hesitate to buy a new Vista PC...

So I'm sure we'll all be disappointed...

(And who cares if 10.4.9 is the last update or if it could be followed by 10.4.9.1 or 10.4.10 or whatever, get a life people)

Wow, that was one negative post ;)

Yeah that post was pretty emo. I hope there's a new finder, among other things.

I wasn't really in the scene before 10.4, I was interested and enjoyed macs, but my PC had around 2 years left so I was not really involved. Were people wishing for a revamped finder in 10.4?

Now I'm not sure if I should hope for anew finder or not.... ;)

(Small changes like new icons or thinner scrollbars don't count!!)

You took words right off my mouth.. I feel exactly the same,

How do we know you are a reliable source?

I know they will release 10.5 first because they need to.
It's that or a 10.5.1 update within weeks after the release from Leopard.
They will choose for the 10.4.9 update a few weeks after 10.5.
That's what I know ;) and what I have heard ;)

PS:I'm not "the" source, I have a source :apple: We will see if it's reliable...

I've been thinking, Apple hasn't released an updated OS in 2 years now right? Why does the version have to be 10.5? Why not 11?...That way, they can escape from the lack of cat names. I believe Leopard will blow us away but perhaps a few disappointments that we wanted but we can't always get what we want right? Aside from that, Leopard is going to rock! I'd bet 100 bucks on it.
