Honestly it's starting to show and not in a good way. We need some of the brutal Apple design ethos, stubbornness and ruthless attention to detail back from Jobs mind. We need a bit more form over function again, it's what made Apple unique.

I'm but sure how that would help to retain the technical staff.

Instead, Apple needs to increase the R&D budget so that they can pay enough in order not to lose people.

Good riddance. He couldn't add a second camera? Any idiot could tell you a "premium" phone with only one camera won't sell.

Edit: for the people down grading this comment, you really don't know what you're talking about. The Air Bombed. I warned about this during the rumor cycle. And mark my words, if the Fold has the same stupid camera limitations, it's not going to sell well either.
Like 50 other people signed off on one camera, including Tim Beancounter.

Yes, the fold will be a stupid niche phone.

Americans drop their phones incessantly but now they are supposed to adopt phones without cases?

Ok.

It must be a source of frustration, to bring someone into Apple, let them peek behind the curtain, show them how the secret sauce is made, only for them to quit and join what will probably be another tech competitor.

I agree. Having been around when Ive was at the helm, I can say that things are getting sloppy, careless, and honestly so far away from the Apple that really truly made design the center of human experience. Steve would not put up with this and I so worship someone would lead again and get apple back to its roots.

I love my Air and absolutely do not want or need a second camera. There needs to be an option for those that could care less about optics. I think the Air is probably my favorite iPhone to date….and I’ve had them all.

I used to think these departures were a harbinger of Apple’s inability to woo the next generation of talent, but given the AI bubble and the insane and unsustainable compensation these execs are being offered to jump ship, Apple’s refusal to participate in the stampede actually just feels like common sense. A lot of these startups are going to implode.
A tech company that doesn’t embrace AI isn’t common sense, and being late to the game isn’t either. Apple didn’t refuse to invest in AI, they didn’t see it coming until it was too late.

And I actually like iOS26 ... Less flat design, less vagueness, more interesting icons.

Form over Function is a bad way to go

Displays are (with rare exception) two-dimensional ... flat. There is little to gain with false 3-D UI elements. Apple already mussed about with skeuomorphism some years ago.

The correct model for Apple's UI isn't fake 3-D and skeuomorphism but instead print design, like you'd find in a newspaper, magazine, graphic design house. There's nearly infinite variety with 2D. Graphic design is based on sound established principles that exist for logical reasons (such as, for example, having contrast for legibility -- something Apple bungled badly with the initial iOS 26 release.)

I think it’s simply that there’s an AI boom with crazy salary packages going on. And it’s the new frontier in tech.

Whilst Apple is likely keeping salaries down like it’s 2019, is a mature risk taking company with lots of mature product lines. And it’s a AI disaster zone.

And it’s in the valley. I read - me living in England - that SF is where it’s at.

So who can blame him ?

You were warned, Apple!

If only a multi-trillion dollar company had listened to sherwinzadeh, all would be right in the world.

It’s starting to show in a GOOD WAY too.

MacBooks have the right amount (and types) of ports again.

And I actually like iOS26/iPadOS26/etc. With a few Accessibility tweaks, my phone and IPad are more like pre-iOS7 and I’m super glad. Less flat design, less vagueness, more interesting icons.

Form over Function is a bad way to go…I’m surprised to read someone prefers that.

Unless youre being tongue in cheek and I completely missed it. :)

I would take more Jobs less Jony any day.
Agree with you on many points, just the iPhone needs some fresh look at it. It’s been the same thing over and over again and it’s getting uglier with each iteration.

Maybe, maybe not. Amazon made zero profit for at least a decade before it got to where it is today.
IIRC, Amazon showed zero profit because it kept reinvesting any potential profit into its infrastructure for all those years. I recall it frustrating a lot of investors in those days, but it seems like they were eventually happy with the outcome, assuming they hung on.
