I don't buy this at all. The iPad 2 (or 1.5 if you want to call it...) is not that much different than the iPad 1. How can there be supply constraints then? Sure the screen might be a little different or the battery, but can those changes equal supply problems!?

This crap was posted by investment bankers that want the share price to drop so they can buy more stock.

I think it's highly unlikely that Apple would send out an invitation saying "Come see what 2011 will be the YEAR of" if they planned to upgrade again in a few months. That would be just asking for the jokes when new buyers got pissed 6 months from now. Plus, I think they learned their lesson of too quick upgrades and/or price cuts too soon after the launch. They wouldn't trash the iPad's brand like that. If anything, minor upgrade now and we'll have to wait another year for the major upgrade.

Well a new iPad and a new MBP will have to happen at some time. It might be right around when I'm finally in the market for some new hardware. I must admit though, my 24" iMac (late 2007) is still doing its job just fine and I see that not changing in another 2 years.

I'm glad to hear iPhone 5 is still on for June, but it needs major work. Despite antenna-gate, I am still of the opinion reception and the phone component is the iPhone's weakest function.

Also 2 slabs of glass is not working out. The insurance claims are crazy.

yet strangely not one dropped call on Verizon

Just curious why you feel that way. They're introducing new products (iPad), which are selling extremely well, they've got the number one selling phone in the world, the Mac is rising in market share in both the consumer and enterprise space and they're setting records left and right.
The endless conveyor of success is quite meaningless. It does not guarantee there is going to be a product to purchase. I do not believe I will ever be able to replace my Macbook short of some critical hardware failure. It is going on 4 years old now. It is barely more capable than a netbook.

In short, the good times do not roll for everyone. I do not understand how it is surprising.

All of this is a bit disturbing, as "the machine" seems to have lost its momentum.

Apple is showing the beginning signs of a company that has lost its way. In many ways they remind me of Microsoft in the late 90's to early 00's.

Why do pessimistic apple haters have to log onto macrumours.com? I think u are expecting too much from the company. It's light years ahead of any competitor/pc manufacturer. The only point of reference for apple to grow is 'apple' itself.

I'll still upgrade to the new MacBook Pros. ANYTHING is better than my 06 MBP. 15" i7 here I come!

It's funny because I know you'll love your new MBP but you will miss something when you go to the new design because sooo many people have it. I do it's strange i love my MBP to no end but when i take it out people go o you have one too not like before were it was cool that mac is different!

you are new here. The negativity that you see is a perpetual thing on macrumors for apple updates. If you waited to switch until everybody was brimming with love and positivity for a mbp update you would never get a mac. People are always wanting more specs. People don't like hearing rumors about what will be released next, but if you think about it there will ALWAYS be a next product, even if there are no rumors about it. There is no better time to buy a product than at its refresh. So I say buy the new mbp and be happy! :)

No sense waiting around for more than a year because Apple might do this or that

Yup I would most probably go for the 15" .. I do not find anything wrong with the current Unibody

This is getting so silly... first everybody belives iPad two to be released every day during the last 3 Month and now that it´s finaly comming (to the most Apple date you could have expected) people consider the same rumors + a extra amount of dumb real enough to be posted on a news side.

Dossent anyone at mac rumores see that this is as much of an atempt to keep stock prices low and ideots from buying an ipad "because there might be a new one"?

Because now they must produce two different things (batteries, chassis, screen bezels, etc) at the same time. One for the incredibly well selling intro version and a second set of the same items, but slightly different, for the upcoming version. That gives you supply problems. It isn't like they can stop making the first iPad and only make #2.

Why not? I know they're still making the iPhone 3GS so AT&T has a cheap iPhone to sell with a contract, but there's no good reason to continue production of the original iPad once the next iPad is available.

If it's true that Apple is having problems with the next iPad, it would make more sense for Apple to just delay the release until later in the year, instead of releasing some slightly improved "placeholder" model for six months. Of course, it's also possible based on what some other companies are doing, for Apple to introduce their iPad line to a shorter release cycle. Either that or they want to do this to shift their iPad releases to September, possibly even merging their iPod Touch and iPad lines into just one line called iPad, with two sizes, 5" and 9.7". Steve said he didn't like 7", he never said anything about a 5" iPad (replacing the 3.5" iPod Touch).

All we know for sure is to expect the unexpected from Apple this year.

glad i haven't sold my ipad yet. I did it just for this reason, in case apple decides to pull a 3GS style upgrade and not really add much.

I didn't bite on the 3GS and I won't bite on a marginally updated ipad either. I am hoping for something spectacular, but I've hedged my bets just in case.

I know it can be difficult, but I would suggest going ahead and buying now. There will ALWAYS be something better coming out next year. There really is no better time to natch up a mbp than now. The haters ALWAYS complain about something. If the redesign occurs next year, you can bet people will be bitching about how they hate it, or that it wasn't updated enough. You might not even like the new design. If you really want to make the switch to Mac I say just go for it now. That will give you a whole extra year of time to love and enjoy a Mac!!! And I think that is totally worth it.

Worst case scenario you can sell your mbp next year for a $250 loss. That's really not a bad investment to rent a brand new mbp for a year.

Excellent point. I've got a great eBay seller rating, I've got the cash on hand, and I really do want to see first hand why everyone loves these computers more than their families. I'll wait and see what the official word is, but a $250 hit is more than worth the investment. Thanks for the advice.

technically a retina display would only need to be a 20-30 DPI improvement because a "retina" display is completely dependant on avg distance from face. So we could see one on the second. That said, doubling the resolution creates a screen with more DPI than my 60" HDTV. WHY do you need that?... I don't get it.

This issue has been covered many many times already! If you were an iOS developer you would understand this. That is why Apple doubled the res of the iPhone screen and they will do the same thing and double the iPad screen when they do it on iPad 3. The reason is APPS and DEVELOPERS! It makes PERFECT sense, much more than you realize!

Another aspect to this that people overlook is that Apple has been developing iOS and iOS devices to be resolution independent. That is what makes these updates and Retina Displays possible while maintaining the same UI ratios etc.

In my opinion,
Ipad (2nd Gen) will be announced
Mac OSX Lion will be featured
'Really cool things coming to the next iPhone'
One more thing - ?
Then they'll release MBP with Lion pre-installed
iMac with Lion pre-installed
and the iPhone5 followed by Final Cut Pro / Logic Pro / Mac Pro revisions.
I think tomorrow will see a MacBook replacement only.
March the 2nd is all about renewing investor confidence, it has nothing to do with matching our expectations.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You are kidding right??? Are you serious?

Ya... ok, sorry, but you are delusional PERIOD!

P.S. Sorry mod, please combine my posts

Perhaps although you do realise that apple was behind with its resolution on the iphone 3gs when it quadrupled it with the iphone 4 ? 960 × 640 is high, but not that high taking into account the 640*480 my acer n310 had in 2005/6 .

Now manufacturers are anouncing/releasing 720p screen of that size , yet that means still 3.5 times less then what you would need when wanting a 2047* 1536 , and that in a couple of months? Massive production readY? I dont think so.

I think they are going to improve the way ipad/iphone handles lower res apps and perhaps a 1.5 times higher resolution, but I dont see them introducing 2xxx resolutions early next year.

Is this the thread where I come in to piss and moan about a mockup, to bitch that the previous design is better, based on absolutely nothing? K just making sure.

I highly doubt them having speaker grills. They went away from those on their macbooks/pros/ibooks etc.. ages ago. Be odd to see apple going back to that.
