You just contradicted yourself.

Nope, bought a 7, saw their solution to no headphone jack, didn't like it. Choose to return the phone because Apple couldn't restore a backup for two years ago, suggested I re-buy all my apps.

The problem that most posters here missed: the "normal", not the "forum" iPhone users will look at the loss of the jack, getting a dongle, and saying "looks like it will work" to themselves.
Then reality sets in right about the time they either can't find the dongle or it breaks. Then they question the wisdom of it.

Did you honestly not know the phone was going to come with an adapter before you paid for it?

In any event, the contradiction is that you claimed you were forced to accept something that you already agreed to accept voluntarily. That is not possible.

Also, not sure what the iCloud issue has to do with any of this, but it appears you were given bad advice. Your content is forever linked to your Apple ID so worst case scenario is that you have to re-install everything individually. I don't think the App Store would let you repurchase it even if you wanted to.

Are you a parent? Bet not.

When you do become a parent you will be surprised what you will do for just a few minutes of peace and quiet!
Better have no kid than many people I've seen whining and complaining and blaming the kid after the kid drop their phone. If one chose to become a parent, one have to man up on the responsibility.

Besides, with so many cheap Android phones and tablets, it's not breaking the bank to get a separate device for the kid. Just sayin.

Non-parents always have an abundance of advice for parents lol.

When I hand my phone to my kids, I only do so in environments where an accidental drop won't cause a problem.

Now, if they break it on purpose, then yes, I will be all over them. We've taught our kids that we don't destroy things in fits of rage. Doesn't matter if it's a $5 plastic toy or an iPhone. The principle is the same and they shall be disciplined in either case. Sorry if that bugs you.

Some solutions
1. Update the phone (Fix connectivity issues)
2. Bluetooth headphones (Fix losing dongle issues)

What other problems do you have with it? Seems like pretty simple solutions.

You're what?! You never have to buy your apps again. All of that is tied to your Apple ID.

Sorry if you think my comment was about you. My comment is about my observation, not about you. So you can be as great parents as you can, it doesn't negate what I observed of others.

My wife replaced her iPhone 6 with iPhone 7. It's been few weeks now, and as a non-techie person, here's her review: feels and looks the same, but locks up and looses signal a lot more often. She wants her old phone back. This is the first time since iPhone 3 that she doesn't like a new iPhone. I'm pretty sure she's not the only one.

Then yesterday, my 6 year old daughter wanted to listen to PBS Kids. She brings her kid headphones, aaaand fail - we already lost the stupid dongle. Had to use my 6S Plus instead.

If you expect people on this forum to feel your pain, you're wasting your time. As evidenced by most replies here, most of them don't realize that this phone theoretically is supposed to serve YOU, make YOUR life easier, save YOU time. Not the other way around.

I'm not happy about the lack of a headphone jack either. But as somebody else pointed out to me in another thread, just pick up additional adapters and leave the the adapter on each pair of headphones you have. Or, pick up some Bluetooth headphones.

As far as the connection issues are concerned, have you updated to iOS 10.1 to see if that resolved it?

If you are on Verizon, it was a known issue with connection problems. However, a software update came out last week to fix that, and another ios update came out yesterday.

Yup and they should have been included in the package for $700+!

Why? The phone came with wired headphones? A company is not in business to give things away for free. The wired headphones work. If you want wireless, pay for them. If they included wireless instead, people would complain because they lost them. And you would likely post, for $700+ they should have included wired headphones instead.

If Apple ever eliminates options for plugging in headphones via wire, yes, they should.

Otherwise, no since they have provided an option to plug in typical wired headphones.

I view the 'issue' the same as the way people used to complain up and down about iPads having no USB ports. Not so much anymore....

Yep you are a kid and far from even getting married.

You mark my words and you will understand one day. I am not so old that I remember how I felt. You meet that special person and you will be surprised how your life will change.

Exactly.
Something that serves you and works for you.
if it doesn't then you dont buy or you return it.
Not everyone's needs are the same.
Why buy something that doesn't work for you and then sit there and complain about it?

In the original post, it is stated the child wants to LISTEN to a program. The child doesn't need to hold the phone to do so with wireless headphones. The parent can keep the phone on their person. This way no expensive phone is destroyed.
