With wireless syncing, I really want this to be a MagSafe connector. However it will be a smaller dock connector that has USB 3 support and speed. Though MagSafe and USB 3 connector should secure this connector type for another 10 years. :)

If Apple decides to change the connector from the universal 30 pin connector to something else it will be a standard Micro USB port in compliance with the EU's new regulations on smartphone charging. Going from one proprietary connector to another doesn't seem to make much sense (why alienate all those old device that one could connect the device to for nothing).

Oh my!

Some people here...

So much about "Apple would never use Phillips screws...

Second: It is clearly stated, this is a mock up! Why do you critizize that apple would never do this and that? Of course, the colors on the screen will be off - it's a print under glass - not a phone display. Same with the sharp edges.

Third: Why does every new mock up get Frontpage Status? There is no news to it. All the mock ups are based on the same leaks of back pannels.

I'd hope this hype over mock ups would stop. I mean, new leaked guts, okay, I want to see them. Mock ups based on the same part leaked a month ago, that is not news at all.

HTC is working on tablets that make phone calls.

My iPad does with Skype. ;)

I loved the 4S, size, shape, specs.

After having all models if the next one is just longer with slight spec bump i'm more than happy to stick with the 4S.

.....

edit *These replies are coming in as fast as i can read them.

I don't really care about how the phone looks,,,, well i do, as long as its thin and wide-ish screen (4 inches is good) just as long its good a *better* res. than the Galaxy S3, I don't mind much about the other features.

SOrry,, just memorised by the kittens..

I think 9to5Mac got their story a little straighter:

"Asian supplier jury-rigs a next gen iPhone to show off their cases"

Gizmodo’s Jesus Diaz asks a question that he already knows is false: Has the iPhone 5 Been Smuggled Out of the Factory Already?
No, it has not. But these manufacturer pages show what a beat up, falling apart next-gen iPhone with slightly off-white components would look like in a cheap case.

Kinda surprised at all the people shouting "fake!" in this thread...

Isn't it obvious that this is just a physical mockup meant for case manufacturers to demonstrate the dimensions? Of course it's not a real example of the phone.

That being said, if those are the actual dimensions, I find it quite hideous and disappointing.

It's easy to move. Between Dropbox and Google services you can very easily back-up and sync everything you have online. Better yet, Google Music (Play) will do what iTunes Match does, but it's free allowing you to store up to 20,000 tracks and listen anywhere (also share and download).

The big loss you'd have are apps for your iPhone. And Android has most of those.

Since everyone has or had iTunes developers make migration easy.

Not saying you should or shouldn't leave (I haven't, but am considering it).

The ability to walk away is your most powerful tool as a consumer.

I have switched airlines after ten years of loyalty, flying 30+ times a year. They changed their frequent flyer program in a way that told me they didn't value me as a customer.

I'm trying to refinance my house to take advantage of the historically low interest rates. Their appraiser valued my house at half the tax appraisal value, which means the bank doesn't want to give me the lowest rate. I'm seriously considering closing out my accounts there and using the money to pay off the mortgage in full. The bank would lose revenue on both ends.

I would do the same with Apple if I felt used, abused, or unappreciated. I have no illusions that Apple the giant corporation cares about me as an individual, so if another company offered a phone that had a feature set which made it worth the hassle of losing all my apps and DRM-protected media, plus the hassle of learning a new OS, plus the hassle of transferring all the media that I have the right to use, then I would do it.

So it boils down to this:

1) I don't feel used, abused, or unappreciated by Apple.
2) I know Apple doesn't care about me as a person (neither do their competitors), but it makes decisions that have left me more satisfied with Apple products than I was before I started using Apple products.
3) No competitor offers products with features that I think would be worth the considerable hassle of switching.

The odds are very good that I'll be replacing my 2+ year-old iPhone 4 with Apple's next iPhone model, as soon as it gets announced. As always, I'll wait to see what they do announce before making my final decision. But I don't really expect them to let me down.

I absolutely agree! Same is for cellular networks. I'll switch in a heartbeat if VZN thinks they can tell me I have to go to have teared plan instead of unlimited data. I'm sure T-Mobile would like me back. If VZN tells me to pay in full for the next device to keep that, then they have to realize that there are cheaper competitors taking you as customer if you pay your device yourself.

I keep hearing people say this but really are you willing to completely dump everything that you have invested in Apple apps, music, movies, etc. just because you don't like the looks of the new phone? It is not that easy just to jump ship. I have a lot invested in Apple include full use of iCloud, which would be next to impossible to move to Android. I think the number of people who will actually leave Apple for such a superficial reason as aesthetics is very small. People need to concentrate on what the phone will do for them and if it meets there needs rather than how it looks. To me, I could care less how something looks to me, if it does what I want it to do.

All of my music is DRM free. I haven't purchased any movies. I have only a few apps that I'll need to replace (one of them is Navigon, which costs about $30, so that's a fairly significant investment). iCloud does absolutely nothing for me. If anything, it's made things more complicated for our family.

I agree with your statement that looks don't really matter much. However, I want a bigger screen (in both height and width).

If the iPhone doesn't have a much bigger screen and no new significant features are added, I'll get a Galaxy. The only reason I haven't bought one yet, is because I have to see if there are any innovations in the new iPhone before jumping ship.

Keep in mind, we're a family of iPhone/iPad users. We have 3 iPhones, 2 iPod Touches, and an iPad. It will be a difficult decision, but a bigger screen really is that big of a deal to me.

Philips (+) head screws on the bottom?

Somehow I doubt it. Someone made a rough mockup from internet images on the off-chance they're valid. It certainly won't be an Apple sourced test molding.

Well, after reading your comment I looked at the bottom of my iPhone 4 and guess what: Philips screws

So the new iPhone will look hideous? Great mockup...let's just mash all of the rumors together and see what happens!

Just remember that the S3 doesn't have SAMOLED +, it's a nice screen but still pentile.

But give credit where it's due. Samsung's made an amazing phone, and if rumors are true, Apple new phone will be nearly an inch smaller and lack removable battery.

I think it is blatantly clear this is neither a real iPhone, or a quality mock-up.

Much ado about nothing.

Until a Samsung phone, or any other Android phone for that matter, eliminates the ever so slightest hint of lag when interfacing with the screen, I will stick with iPhone no matter what it looks like because the experience of interfacing with the touchscreen it is smooth and flawless on an iPhone. Former Android user here.

I just have to laugh at the posts that keep saying "Apple would never use Phillips head screws." Please know your Apple products before making a claim like that. The iPhone 4 most defiantly used Phillips head screws at one time or another. My original iPhone 4 did (cause I remember taking it apart!!!). I ended up getting a newer iPhone 4 and it was one of the models that switched to using their star shape screw.

Though to the pictures I feel that this is just someone making a case mockup from what some of the leaked information that we have. Now I'm just saying that if does become true then I myself actually like the look of it. The leaked information that we have are really just prototypes would not really be the fully consumer ready design. It would like a lot more polished. After looking at some fan made renders based on the leaked design, I really like it.

A longer 4S with a two-tone back, new 19-pin connector, minor upgrade in specs and LTE (for some)?

Well, at least I won't feel that bad that I can't upgrade from my 4S (at a discount) until next summer. I'm just not sure if I'll upgrade to another iPhone unless they really redesign it next year.

Off topic... but I feel Apple lost its spirit. It feels more like a corporation and manufacturer rather than an inspiration.

It is sad that the spirit of Steve is not around and is actually disappearing faster than what I thought. That blanket that kept us intrigued about the new invention is gone and now is about the gadget.

The good news is that there is room in this world for creating minds. Maybe Apple had its chance but for sure, the legacy Steve Job left to the corporate world is that creative ambitious people are the key.

I am waiting for the next creative mind that will change the world again, who knows in what field or what industry, but that is going to be something good to watch.

Equally off-topic:

People who engage in verbal masturbation to eulogize Steve Jobs are starting to get on my nerves.

But you're clearly the wisest person on the Internet so I'll allow it.

Am I the only one that looked at the numbers under each picture and started humming "867-5309"?

TRANSYLVANIA-SIX (boom, boom) FIVE-THOU-SAND.

But you're clearly the wisest person on the Internet so I'll allow it.

The thing is that I am studying a big deal about "egos", the "me" the mind creates to have a presence in the material world. And there is something called the "collective ego", that is the personality of a group, your family, friends, you and your partner, the company you work with, this forum, a town, a city, a country and so on.

Apple had an ego (personality, culture) that was driven by Steve Jobs, and now that he is gone, you can tell the things that are not there anymore. For example, Steve was very jealousy about leaking parts, today Apple does not care. And things like that.

Usually Apple's was about the "new advertising" like when the iPod came out and all the posters were colors, or when the iMacs. Today the tv spot are not about creativity, they are about features like "siri"... like Sony does like everybody else does.

Eventually Apple will end up like another Sony Ericsson or Sony Vaio... a hardware company with fancy products but with a reminiscence of the original creative spirit. Probably the next CEO will be one trying to make money for himself while the company still having a reputation, in other words I see in 5 to 8 years Apple will be cannibalized. That is what I sense.

This.

I was going to post this exact same thing. People are thinking way too hard into this. I was looking at the Phillips screws on the bottom of my iPhone 4 and wondering why everyone was blabbing about the screws being un-Apple. They look fine.
