if the iphone 5 (?) is just a stretched 4S with a two tone back... quite a few people could, and some already are, turn to a Galaxy S3

I keep hearing people say this but really are you willing to completely dump everything that you have invested in Apple apps, music, movies, etc. just because you don't like the looks of the new phone? It is not that easy just to jump ship. I have a lot invested in Apple include full use of iCloud, which would be next to impossible to move to Android. I think the number of people who will actually leave Apple for such a superficial reason as aesthetics is very small. People need to concentrate on what the phone will do for them and if it meets there needs rather than how it looks. To me, I could care less how something looks to me, if it does what I want it to do.

It would be rather amusing if "the new iPhone" resemble these pictures. I remember when the iPhone 4 mock-up and prototype left at the bar. MR members said that it was very un-Apple like to have visible seems, exposed visible screws and a + and - on the volume buttons. Claiming its a fake and it would not sell and so forth.

Years later we had the iPhone 4S with minor adjustments, however people are proclaiming the iPhone 4 and 4S have the best design compared to any other phone on the market at present and in the past.

MR members and the community at large has short-term memories indeed. ;):p:D

I can see the 16:9 ratio being adopted, as it is great with :apple:TV and AirPlay mirroring. The standard screws could mean a direction back to EPEAT standards. Thoughts.

I will hold judgement till its release, if this indeed turns out to be it.

I remember thinking that design was great and still do! I think some people take longer than others to accept change. That said I don't think the new "leaked design" is good - proportions wrong for Apple (who love Golden Ratios), placement of seams and camera not right, it just smacks of fake leak to me. I already made a crappy mock-up earlier of what I think the phone will actually look like, basically mini-iPad.

Since most people seem to hate this design and think its un-Apple why are most people assuming its legit?

This could very well be the next "iPhone5"... Apple has used Phillips screws in all models except the 4S, they only started using the pentalobe screws after the first few batches of GSM iPhone 4('s). As for the bigger screen I can see that as well, the biggiest feature on competitors is a bigger screen so why wouldn't apple go bigger? In this format it is a true wide screen display, my only issue with this mockup is the charging port. I'm not saying it can't be real, but why would apple change up? Every model uses the same charger, this move to a smaller charging would be dumb(user standpoint) Although... From a business stand point I can totally why they would make this change. ** china better start making knock offs!

With wireless syncing, I really want this to be a MagSafe connector. However it will be a smaller dock connector that has USB 3 support and speed. Though MagSafe and USB 3 connector should secure this connector type for another 10 years. :)

I'm rewinding back to this time in 2011. New iPhone coming! iPad styled back! LTE! Bigger screen! That one German site even went as far as to create a pretty good looking mockup and did a big reveal. We had cases too. And a bunch of confirmation about the new design.

What we got was the 4S, which I still think is a gorgeous design, but most people had decided by then that it was going to be a brand new form factor. I believe none of this crap until I actually see it at Apple's iPhone event. I don't even believe that there's a new dock connector. And I definitely don't believe that the phone will be longer.

Remember the no home button iPad and all the analysis to support that it was the real deal?

Same here.

Funny part is , people complain and then put any phone whatever design into an Otterbox, so you can't even see it:)

That is so fake even if it does represent the iphone 5, why is this being posted?

Given that :apple: has multiple working prototypes, there is a possibility that some of the rumours are true. However a few months before going into production and approval, it might have gotten shelved because of an outcome of last minute results or manufacturing difficulties.

:apple: has to make do with the production line to recoup its investment costs. This is why we usually see an iPhone redesign after the present has been on the market for 2 generation releases. The iPhone 3GS is still be produced, though I have a feeling that with the release of iOS 6, the curtains will be drawn. Dropping the iPhone 4 to the budget market.

Exactly that. I really can't see this design being real, it's just a step back (the design itself, not this crappy mock-up). If it's true then we'll all know that Mr Jobs had even more input than we thought - and that Jony Ive should return his knighthood.

however, as the saying goes. Where there's smoke there's fire. So although these mock-up could be wrong, there is a high chance they are right

It's easy to move. Between Dropbox and Google services you can very easily back-up and sync everything you have online. Better yet, Google Music (Play) will do what iTunes Match does, but it's free allowing you to store up to 20,000 tracks and listen anywhere (also share and download).

The big loss you'd have are apps for your iPhone. And Android has most of those.

Since everyone has or had iTunes developers make migration easy.

Not saying you should or shouldn't leave (I haven't, but am considering it).

The MagSafe connector is a great idea for a laptop. When someone accidentally trips over your power cord, the connector snaps free while the relatively heavy laptop stays where it is.

When someone trips over the charging cable for your iPhone, the MagSafe connector would drag the phone off the table. If you grab the cable to save your precious iPhone, the MagSafe connector would snap free, and the iPhone would fall freely to the floor.

I sure hope not. I want to stay with Apple, but I'll have trouble justifying getting another one.

I like that it finally has LTE, it's probably lighter--that's good, but I don't like ergonomics of a flat back, I'd really like a larger screen in the same 3:2 aspect ratio, and I'm not happy about changing dock connectors as I have many accessories using the old one.

:apple: has weakened the magnets in MagSafe 2. This is not to say they cannot implement a weaker magnet on an iOS device to deter the scenario mentioned. Its one of those :apple: touches that once would expect. :)

True, but this could easily be solved by making the magnets weaker and the connector less recessed.

I just can't understand why they don't stretch the phone to keep the same aspect ratios. Stretching it only vertically is going to make images look very strange and create an odd form factor in your hand.

nonnnoonoonono.... read up on it - there's more to it. Regardless, I hope they do more with the design than this!

Sooooo many people are gonna jump ship !

Apple, don't you know what people want ?

WIDER too, not just taller.

I think people are going to like how flexible Android or Windows phone 8 are.

iOS is more or less the same as it was 5 years ago. Same wonky home button that it built to break, same rows of icons.

When you compare it to android it makes you wonder how Apple could possibly claim that its :The Most Advanced Mobile Operating System in The World"

All I can say is I hope this is a well done fake and a ruse by the new CEO to show his skills

Agreed. If this is the new iPhone (yes I know this particular one is a fake) then I will take a serious look at Android (again).
