Oh I don't doubt that. Trust me, I'm not nieve. It just makes me growl every time anyhow. :p

Please don't take this as me pointing out stupid spelling mistakes, but in school I almost always spelled naive incorrectly until I realised it was evian backwards. Top tip! Just don't get confused and spell it civlov ;)

In that video, you can clearly see the difference, I took a screenshot from the video and uploaded it for you to see. Look at the "Messages" icon....the quality on the Retina display really does show:

WHile I can see a difference, it isn't overwhelming. Maybe in person it will look better.

Our iPad 2 screen looks beautiful to me now.
This reminds me of people ooooing and ahhhing over 1080p when they were used to 720p. Sure there is a difference, but 720p still looks great.

Really? I've noticed quite a bit of shrugging and "meh" going on in various threads around here. It baffles me.

Why are you "baffled"? I'm "baffled" over the reception of the iPad. I find it to be one of the most useless products developed by Apple. I must be the only one who thinks this way because everyone seems to be enchanted by this device. I haven't picked up my iPad 2 in over two months. I simply find no use for it. I actually find it amusing how my friends jump through hoops to find some use for their iPads.

I still pre-ordered one for my father, but I don't foresee myself purchasing a tablet ever again for personal use. To each their own, nothing "baffling" about it.

When iPad 2 came out, they weren't happy because it wasn't a retina display. Now that it's a retina display, they aren't happy because it's not quad core. Don't worry, they'll have something to complain about next time too.

Pssh. I wasn't happy about iPad 2 and I'm perfectly happy with this one.

I'm actually a bit disapointed, it is true that the new display is amazing and the improvement of the camera is noteworthy but the number one reason I got rid of my ipad 2 was due to its weight and the new ipad is actually heavier. I'll wait until the smaller ipad comes out.

Sounds like a "mini pad" is just what you need....

The porn/1990's-video-game-character-selection-screen music won me over.

Some people will never be impressed with this device though.
This is a really exciting device, even if you think the benchmarks aren't good enough.

I was hoping so much that the number one comment would address that horrible music.

Does anyone know how the new iPad will handle older iPad apps?

Meaning are they gonna be blown up to to size or will they be a smaller box in the middle of the screen like when you use an iPhone app on the iPad?

Will there be some sort of filtering or anti-aliasing involved? Somewhat similar to how a Vita can do for old PSP games?

Or does everything that's not updated just look like ass mold?

Just curious if that's been discussed. Either way, my new iPad arrives Friday :D

Since the screen is the exact same size,by definition nothing will be"blown up"Each pixel will be replaced by four pixels taking up the same space.Thing should look close to or exactly the same.Artwork created for the new display however will look awesomely better.

Wouldn't an older iPad app look exactly the same on the new iPad versus an older model? (actually asking, not being cocky). The screens are the same size, but the new iPad has four pixels in the exact same space where one pixel took previously. So if it's an older app those four pixels would be doing the same thing as the original one pixel.

Yes mostly. The pixel structure (the "screen door effect") is less evident on the new iPad, so it will probably look a little better. Then there are differences in color saturation and such.

And that's for bitmaps (images and icons). For text rendered by the OS, the question is: will it be at retina resolution, making most older iPad apps automatically look better. Or will it be how iPhone apps are doubled for iPad, where text is rendered at (non-retina original) iPhone resolution and then everything is blown up. How did text in old iPhone apps look on the then-new iPhone 4? In other words, do/did apps have to declare themselves as @2X?

Both tests are off-screen 720p so good for comparision. I am Also interested in full resolution performance...

But that's my point, using the same resolution is not good for comparison because a lot of apps are going to be running with 4X the pixels. There's no question the new iPad has faster graphics at the same resolution, but does it have enough to compensate for the extra pixels? I realize some games will simply upscale, but many won't, particularly 2D games and non-gaming apps.

EDIT: Josh Topolsky answered my question (asked by someone else) in his review for The Verge:

Q: Should we expect the same or better iOS speed & swiftness than iPad 2 to compensate for retina on new iPad?

A: It's as fast or faster in every way from what I could tell.

So...excellent :D

this is like comparing Mcdonald's to Burger king - ipad 2 camera was trash, so this one is less trash.

And great now people can waste more time on video games - and people still argue that this thing is not a toy for kids.

iOS - the dumbing down of Apple continues...
So what would you call Windows 8/Metro, then? Is Metro not a similar concept to that of running iOS on a Mac?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B179 Safari/7534.48.3)

People that have iPhone 4 or 4s and iPad, what is the advantage and good stuff about iPad that iPhone can't offer?
Would like to here opinions, thanks guys

you forgot to mention the 11 o'clock news opening music. "Coming up tonight at 11, we get down and unbox the new iPad

42 Megabits does seem very nice....that would actually be fast enough to stream GREAT quality video over 4G Wireless.

Currently over 3G I can't even stream YouTube video, really, it's only really useful for light web browsing and e-mail over 3G, the 3G connection is really too slow to download apps to the iPad.

This is why I am really looking forward to 4G LTE -- Web Browsing will be lightning fast, Music and Video streaming, video downloads, etc will now be possible. Even FaceTime and video conferencing will now be possible. The increased mobile broadband speeds will open up a whole bunch of new possibilities that are just not possible on 3G.

iCloud will be a key feature on the new iPad. 16 to 64GB storage simply is not enough for long term storage of "retina" content.

Users will need a lot of space in the cloud with simmetric download/upload speeds (usually carriers gives us less upload speed than download). Also, if we are out of a 4G spot, it will be painful transferring retina content over the air from/to iCloud...

Why would they? Supposedly the CPU is pretty much the same one as in the iPad 2, as far as specs go. If anything, apps will open a little slower, since it will take longer to load/process the higher-resolution assets.

That will suck if it's true, that they open slower.
