These cases won't make it to the Apple Store because that threat totally will stop leaks (like this one)

I am not seeing the point of this, if this is just a bigger iPad. From the looks of it, that's what its looking like.

Lets not forget Apple is going after the enterprise market. The iPad Pro, if there is such a thing, would make a great point of sale device, .i.e., more real estate to work with. In addition, it would make a nice device for field use with applications link to corporate networks.

So far, much of what Apple has initiated has turned to gold. The iPhone 6+ being a case in point. Why doubt the iPad Pro?

I just don't see the point in this unless the specs compare to a MBP.

Seeing as the A8X both CPU wise and GPU wise is not far off a current gen MacBook Air, I'd expect a generational jump coupled along with this larger device footprint capable of a larger heat sink to be on par with a dual core, entry level MacBook Pro retina in terms of benchmarks.

Don't Understand The Point

If the iPad Pro is real, what is the point of such a device? Especially if Apple also releases and 12 Inch Air. Just seems incredibly stupid.

Just the sort of thing I've been waiting for - A4 size for pdfs/reading normal page size without zooming, will be awesome, as will the ability to make written notes on a reasonable sized screen with a stylus.
MBPr is great - but you cant use it discreetly in meetings/conferences (or rather I want to punch anyone that does with the keyboard - click, click click... all the time)

iPad Pro

As a student, I've loved being able to replace A TON of paper with just one iPad Air 2.. BUT
I would love a larger screen that could fit two apps or two documents side by side on the screen and I would also love an official Apple stylus that works better than the sad options we have today..
I'm sure artistic people who use the iPad to create artwork would also love a bigger screen and a better stylus as well!
Give us something good Apple! :apple:

I sincerely hope that the "iPad Pro" is really Apple's take on the ModBook with touch optimized OS X. Because an even larger iPad doesn't seem to make any sense.

I wonder if the iPad will just GO the way of the iPod and be forgotten. Sales surely aren't looking up, and Apple refuses to properly adapt iOS for the iPad.

The problem is that the iPad is essentially a resized iPhone without the calling feature.

In essence it's weakness is shared by the iPod touch. Aside from minor differences, the iPod touch and iPad are very similar aside from size.

There is so much overlap between the iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone that realistically, demand will be low.

I have an iPhone. It does what the iPad does. I don't need a larger screen. It's not going to do anything that I can't already accomplish on the iPhone. 2 devices that mirror each other except for size doesn't make sense.

The iPhone has a phone built in, so that makes it more complete for me, and thus why I have it and not an iPad.

If the iPad was a completely different product, it would be more compelling.

I'd be anxiously seeking an iPad that was a Mac version of the SP 3. But as it is, I have no reason to get another iPhone that's just bigger and missing the calling features. It would be redundant, thus it's declining market.

Yea. I reckon the 12" retina screen is for a MacBook Air.

I know.. The top screen portion is an iPad pro and you buy the snap on MacBook portion seperately to make it like a super-surface.

Maybe Apple goes directly after high quality Cintiq Walcom tablets with a higher resolution, extra input flexibility iPad...

Ipad is an enormous business and has a lot of potential. It's just that the iPad itself haven't changed a lot since the iPad 2 ( like you mention. they have to adapt the OS!!! ) and people don't buy a new ipad every two years. That's why sales are staggering.

I agree. I have several hundred dollars in iPad specific apps that would be differentiated better with a bigger screen. (As the iPhone 6 Plus is awesome, but not an iPad) I'm holding out with my iPad 2 until we see them actually knock this rumor down as it would make a better upgrade to a larger screen.
If Apple would just come up with a NAS style device (local cloud) for my giant iTunes library (it's the TV seasons that kill GBs) I could move to just iPads and no MacBooks. I've topped out that magic 500GB limit of personal data and Apple's offerings are lame and overpriced for that top disk tier.

Can't wait for that 3x3 folder grid on the iPad Pro!!!!

are you saying this does not look incredible and amazingly thought through as well as optimized to you ;)

Looks like Apple have just learnt Android's trick of "make the screen bigger". Couple that with Apple's long term trick of "make it a bit thinner instead of making the battery life better".

This innovation is a bit stale.

"i can't see the point of consumer devices evolving into more capable devices."

that's what you and countless others say. and you're all incredibly unimaginative.

I've been holding out from buying an iPad Air because I really want a larger screen. The extra space is perfect for students (like myself) because it resembles a piece of paper.

I considered getting a surface but when I considered my usage, it didn't make sense. I'm not looking to replace my laptop; I'm looking to replace my pen and paper.

Apple needs two things to take over the education segment (or any industry that heavily relies on pen and paper): 1) a larger screen iPad and 2) a stylus solution that is reliable and accurate.

Apple already has several apps for the iPad that do a stellar job for writing notes, sketching, or annotating .pdf files. Couple that with a larger iPad & Stylus and Apple will once again see incredible growth in iPad sales.

Yes it's unimaginative to have a 12 inch iPad when you are going to have a 12 inch MBA. Weren't people on this very board ridiculing Samsung last year when their Galaxy Tab Pro came out? I'm not saying there aren't people who wouldn't derive some use from a 12 inch iPad.

I'm saying it's stupid to have BOTH a 12 inch iPad Pro and MBA Air in the same product line up. It's fine (I guess) to have one or the other in the line up but having both is just asinine.

All things being "equal" what idiot would get an iPad Pro over a MBA?

Anybody find it weird that there's rumors for an 12inch iPad and a 12inch MBA? I feel like apple will release one or the other....hopefully the MBA

How about the "idiot" who wants touch input, say for artistic purposes or handwriting recognition? with devices like the SP3 and other hybrids, I dont see why so many people are having difficulty imagining the audience for this. That said, if it ends up simply being an enlarged iPad, then I dont see the utility in it.

I have to agree, what's the point of this?

I'm excited about Surface Pro 3 (don't have one) as I can see the usefulness.

This? I don't go "man, I wish my iPad Air 2 is bigger".

If iPad Pro is something of a SP3 clone, meh. I just don't see it. In this case, I rather have the 12" Retina MBA instead.

I'm still thinking the iPad Pro and retina 12" MBA will end up bring the same product. Something like a hybrid tablet/laptop combo. Although I have to admit, while I felt strongly this would be the case early on, it's starting to not look that way.
