You can also buy Apple Pencil in many colors, including solid gold. And put it on top of your ear, thats a really stylish stylus. Coming soon, in 3 to 18 months, like any other new Apple product.

"as the current version could be rather unwieldy for use with an iPhone"
Ya THINK?
Those goofy Samsung ads are looking less silly now.

Please don't add Pencil support as that will only give them another excuse to make the damn phones bigger each year.

Also, why would anyone want to use Pencil on such small screen device? Unless you are drawing or doing something specific then Pencil is not very good tool for overall driving (which is what SJ referred to).
I think people overlook the fact, that stylus (Pencil) has very specific use and those people tend to think, that its probably more useful than it really is.
I personally hope that they won't add the support as that would give the wrong impression to people. I really hope Apple has something proper to show than just add another gimmick feature that not many people will use.

Where would this add on stylus be stored? It’s not a Note. And do Galaxy owners flock to buy third party stylii now? The solution? Apple iTrousers. Super thin. Super light. Super expensive for no discernible reason other than. the branding. No pockets and no belt loops. BUT a bespoke Pencil holder in the turn ups. Yes. They’ll be twice the cost of similar leg coverings but who else has Apple on their groin area right now? Apart from you. Yes. That man tucking into the McDonalds Pie! Come on Tim. It’s not exactly rocket science. It’s actually garment technology. So you’ll save $$$ in comparative R&D costs. You invented the iSock. This would simply be an extension of that. Literally ->

But it is the latest tech; it's the first time Apple Pencil works on an OLED screen. If people think it's going to be the first time Apple Pencil works on an OLED screen AND the screen will be ProMotion then they are away with the fairies; that's the type of thing Apple does over iterations.

Maybe next year.

It seems to me they have been following a pattern of releasing new features for the iPad Pros to then trickling them down to the iPhones a year later. True Tone was released as a feature for the first 9.7” iPad Pro in 2016 and was then featured on the iPhone 8 and X a year later just last year. Same might be true for ProMotion. I guess it’s wishful thinking more than anything but I don’t see why it would have to be a first iteration kind of thing when the tech has already been proven, then again a 120Hz refresh rate may not be possible with OLED yet.

It would just make it look like old tech though when the Pro has already had it for a year with the upcoming iPads being the second year of including it, and the X is supposed to be this forward thinking device packing all the latest tech especially for that that asking price. I guess I should learn to lower my expectations by now though so I will just wait and see what happens. If ProMotion isn’t supported then oh well, it gives a strong chance that it will next year though.

Sometimes it's not about being first but offering the best experience. Newton was a POS that failed. Galaxy Note has been thriving with professionals and creators since 2011.
Newton was NOT a POS. It was, like the original iPhone, a Genre-CREATOR. Not so easy to get everything right the first time. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. Plus, the Newton was trying to do stuff that was about a DECADE too-early for the hardware available at the time.

It doesn’t at all. You have to deliberately press on it hard to get it to come out.

My husband has a note 8 and I had the original note and the note 3 and the note 4 and none of them ever fell out. There’s a case to be made about you potentially losing it but falling out no.

I'm so down to use my iPhone this way. I just tested putting my pencil in my pocket and it really isn't a bother. This is functionality I would use a lot a lot a lot.
[doublepost=1534441586][/doublepost]As convenient as a stylus/pen would be, I think I'd rather use the full size pencil. It feels better in my hand than a little mini stylus. The option, however, would be nice. I know most people probably don't agree with me.

I think it's a good idea, even if stolen from Samsung. It's hard to deny that Samsung isn't the hardware innovator and Apple the software innovator. To me, that's pretty clear now. Who cares who copies who tbh, as long as we the consumers get better and better products on both fronts.

To me, this isn't only handy for drawing, but for people running businesses to grab signatures and to sign documents, etc.

I also like how Microsoft has integrated pen support into it's browsing experience... nothing critical but handy for small things.

Smartphones 1.0 such as the Palm Trio had interfaces with small on-screen buttons, which required the pencil. What SJ did with Smartphone 2.0 (iPhone) is design an interface with large enough button that didn't require a stylus.

Steve Jobs didn't want a stylus for operating the phone, opening apps, sending emails, messages, like it was on the Newton device. He was not against using the stylus for art, engineering and math. You know, cartoon artists, diagrams, equations. Traditionally most people don't perform these tasks on a phone, but as screens are getting bigger and edge-to-edge, there's a chance that some people would want to write on it. There are two issues, cost and bulk. Few people would buy a $100 pencil bigger than the phone itself, just to write on a surface area smaller than our palm. But if it's a separate purchase, so be it, there are some use cases, but it needs a smaller pencil.

Possible uses: traveling nurses, doctors, engineers, technicians, who need to do some amount of work out on the field.

Wow, so I guess the Notes are a FAIL in the market, so Samsungs headstart in phablets is meaningless since every large screen iPhone has outsold Samsung. I guess that means Apple is the one who does all the real innovation since people actually buy their products.

I recently discovered a note taking app called NOTABILITY..... it records audio as you type notes....and each written note is time stamped to that part of the audio. It does this flawlessly. Also, it is NOT available for windows or android devices..and has no competition for notes+audio work.
This app is the only thing keeping me on the iOS bandwagon. If it worked on the Note 9, I'd jump ship.
I talk to people and take notes...often standing in a hallway. Quickly whipping out the iphone and stylus will be awesome. As it is, I have the cumbersome aspect of digging the iPad out of it's bag when I want to take the notes.

Hopefully, this is more than a rumor!!!! Stylus YES!

BS. Lecture Notes for Android popular with Galaxy Note users has been doing this since like 2012.

Here comes a wave of comments from people who think they know what Steve jobs from over a decade ago would think of modern day tech
Well, SJ shaped the modern UI. I'm not his fan, but I have to admit he definitely knew what people would like. I never thought touch-screen devices would start replacing proper computers, yet here we are. So yes, I would say his words from over a decade ago are still relevant.

I agree with you. There are at least 2 of us!

Thats what an ipad is for. I can’t see how that huge i-sore expensive pencil, on a tiny 6.5 Inch phone, with giant notch, will accomplish much at all, it’s no NOTE 8 and the S-pen. Now the NOTE 8 makes sense. It’s a tiny powerful computer in the palm. The i-phone is a phone that could do more but rather give so much drama ! HAHAHAHAHA ! I love you all.

I wonder how you are even going to store it, since I doubt Apple will waste precious space for a pen slot that not everyone might use.

Apple will sell a special iPhone case with a holder for the new pencil. A bargain at $899!

Never thought I'd hear a Samsung advocate say those words...
Believe it or not Apple isn't the only one who takes an idea and improves upon it.
[doublepost=1534442724][/doublepost]The key question is: How many built in emoji's will the pen have?
