Must mean they are releasing a smaller pencil as the current one would look too big.
I think Apple might release a slight shorter Pencil 2, wireless charging would be a nice feature. But I’d defer to the graphic artists who the Pencil is meant for as to whether shorter and/or lighter would be an improvement. Artists who use them seem to love them, and Apple wouldn’t want to make it worse for the core users just to make it more convenient for the note-taker crowd. I don’t think Apple would carry two models.

I disagree. I think Jobs wanted nothing to do with a stylus and that this argument is a revisionist history of Apple fanboys.
"Disagreeing" and "I Think" don't result in anything provable from your original comment.
Especially the part in red.
I don’t think Steve wanted the stylus even as an optional input method. If he did, he would’ve made it optional from the start.

I didn't read through all the 400 comments, but at a glance, it seems like many are missing the forest for the trees. Apple Pencil support requires ProMotion: "a technology that delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion content."

It doesn't matter if you ever touch a Pencil to your 2018 iPhone. The fluidity of motion content and improved responsiveness to touch will feel amazing on a screen that size. ProMotion is the feature that will determine if I upgrade in this cycle or not.

Yes that is correct. It was intentional.
You failed to research poster in question.
That will give you your answer if you are so concerned.
I see, so you're dodging it. Got it.

I agree. Those stating Jobs intention was that a stylus shouldn't be needed to operate the phone (but was OK for some things) have not proven that position. Glad we're in agreement.

I think it more likely than not that Jobs would have rejected any form of stylus.

So that is done by the pen hardware, is wha you are implying?

Promotion was just added to last year's iPad pro line. ProMotion does make the Pencil perform better but it's not required as I've used the Pencil before with teh 1st gen 12.9 ipad pro.

Pencil support already migrated down to the $329 iPad; I have no doubt the new mini, which should be released shortly (but possibly not until next spring) will as well. I think it stays at $399 with the higher quality laminated display and probably a higher refresh rate.

Yep, I have 2018 iPad now, but would love a Mini with pencil compatibility too.

Lol, can't wait to hear how this is groundbreaking and how they're NOT copying Samsung. This is more like Apple buying time to fully copy Samsung. I'll call it now, 2020 Apple will have a Galaxy Note copy, and they will site the popularity of their users using the pencil on their iPhones. It would be way too obvious if they straight brought out their Galaxy Note clone that they already have in the works. Pathetic.
Oh and the other pathetic thing will be, the Apple apologists that trashed the Note for its SPen. And now have all of a sudden, have a new found open mindedness about a stylus on a phone. But just like Apple, they can't just come out and admit to it. They can't just be like, "it's so awesome to have the option of a stylus on a phone." That would just expose them for being shameless hypocrites, so instead, they'll say something like," I guess it's good to have options, but I'll never use it." But we all know full well, they're just dying to have it built in the phone like the Note. Pathetic and shameless.

Only thing that’s pathetic is this post to be honest. Can you actually see the sun anymore or are you too far up Samsung’s rear?

Fact is, if Apple do allow for the pencil to be used on the phone you most definitely can’t call it a ‘stylus’. A stylus is a very basic device, like the S Pen. The pencil is a quality drawing tool and with apps like ProCreate available for the iPhone, it makes sense to make use of the technology. Especially on the upcoming X Plus!

I agree. Besides, the best spreadsheet jockeys that I used to work with would never use a laptop. They always had at least two big monitors and and a powerful desktop computer. They need lots of screen real estate for huge worksheets with multiple tabs and downloaded data from corporate data bases. Using a laptop to work on these giant templates was a nightmare.
A MacBook Pro can easily support multiple monitors; the 13” model supports two 4K, while the 15” supports two 5K or four 4K monitors. All at 60 Hz and billions of colors (30 bit).

LOL a stylus existed way before Samsung started shipping them bud

Here comes a wave of comments from people who think they know what Steve jobs from over a decade ago would think of modern day tech

And people who will either ignore or be completely oblivioius to the context under which those original comments were made. At the time smartphone navigation was dominated by Blackberry's jog wheel (or whatever that was called) and the closest thing to a touch interface required a stylus.

The 15" does support two 5K monitors, but from what I've heard, it struggles at that. I only have a single 5K and there are times when it struggles with just the 5K plus my MBP screen at the same time.

It all depends on your use case; the context of OP’s remarks was spreadsheets.

I love my iPad Pro, the pencil for a iPhone would have to be much smaller to fit in the side of a case and then slide in my pocket. Then we are in Stylus territory!

I believe this is the post that started your line of inquiry?
And a lot of other companies. Or is it your position only Apple does this?
If so you are asking for an opinion.
I do my best not to post opinions, positions or anecdotes.
My take is they are irrelevant.
I don't always succeed but that is what I strive to do.
I prefer to stick to things that can substantiated or verified.
Hope this clears up the matter.

Nope, as I pointed out in another post, I couldn't give a monkeys about sales data or marketshare. Totally unimportant as a consumer.

Except that as a consumer if the note doesn’t sell Samsung will drop it.
Just like what happened to Nokia, BlackBerry, HTC, Sony, Motorola, and the essential phone.

No sales mean no device.so not as unimportant to the consumer as you make it out to be.

This is true, but has nothing to do with the comment I responded to:
Each to their own. I see it all the time. Over 10,000 Note 8's issued in my company.
Nor does it have anyting to do with DNichter's comment, which is what you were respoding to:
People keep telling me that, but I have never seen one being used in public or known anyone who has one. This is in Philadelphia also. Samsung sold an estimated 10 million Note 8 devices. As much as you want to believe that stylus' are hugely popular, the Note 8 didn't sell well at all. You're right though, no one is harsh, a very small number of people use a stylus. That's a little more accurate.
Bottom line, the Note is a low seller for Samsung, it's a niche device and won't be as widespread as other Samsung or Iphone smartphones.
The numbers just aren't there.
Of course I am welcome to be corrected if I am in error and you have other data.

What's funny about the whole "who wants a stylus" comment is... it's still true. The percentage of people walking around, poking their smart phones with sticks is very, very small compared to those who don't want to do it. Even Apple Pencil... outside of the niche its not even an afterthought. People on the street don't care. The average Joe doesn't even know about it and will never want one.

The only reason the Apple Pencil exists is because Job's passed away and left his company in the hands of someone who worships stock holders too much.

No point until Apps are allowed to support it.

Better yet, just buy a laptop.

What nonsense. Say I get the note 9 and they do not release a note 10,i still have the note 9. I can't understand your logic.
