Tablets never really took off and the lack of a keyboard is somewhat frustrating to me.

I totally agree.

There is though one little, teensy bit of technology which you haven't heard Apple mention which would fit perfectly with a tablet.

Voice Dictation.

Why type when you can just talk to it. :D

I think we have enough evidence now to know that a 10" tablet is coming in 2010. I just hope that Apple makes it somewhat cheap. :)

i'd be happy if it were some where between an iphone and an imac. not nearly as powerful as an imac but able to run some entry level apps. bigger than an iphone but not huge, say 2 models a 7" and 10" touch screen. no keyboard or laptop type thing. decent drive storage, an ipod classic has 80gigs? wifi/blutooth and phone service. i pretty much carry a bag everywhere so it would be my phone. if they could do it with a deal with at&t(subsidy) i'd think you could get it for $500 7" $700 10"

i think i actually type faster on my iphone than in a keyboard. if the keyboard was on a 7 or 10 inch touch screen i'd be even faster with less errors. although if it could run macspeech dictation that would be awesome too.

Next year would be a good year for a tablet. It might possibly be a better financial time for everyone. Also, this'd give me enough time to save up the necessary moolah.
Everybody with me . . . 2010! . . . 2010!

Sounds too much like a "maxi-pad". Maybe you envision the larger iPod to be "insanely useful" by doubling as a feminine hygiene product. LOL

:)

haha well... that could be insanely useful.

But, seriously, an art-pad/note-pad/data-pad/wireless browser/media center (lite)/data container would be useful beyond what is on the market. Partially because it does all that, but mostly because it would do all that and be truly portable, not something you have trouble holding while on the move, and really should be sitting down using.

Even though it might not exist and I haven't seen it and I am not sure what I would do with it and I am convinced that I probably won't need it- I still want one.

I agree. Next year will bring multicore ARM processors and by then Apple will have released OSX Touch 4.0 with all the features that everyone has asked for in the iPhone. I may not buy one but this will be the main tool of education in the future.

It's nice to have this constant talk of a tablet but can I please have my iTunes media server?

WHATEVER this Apple Tablet is, make it:

- Capable of opening Apple Keynote and Microsoft PowerPoint applications (ideally also editing their NATIVE files) for full blown presentations via VGA-out (or better). This is not to work on the tablet, but mainly to carry a small and light device (see below). As far as I know, that means Mac OS X (not OS X of iPhone and iPod touch) inside it.

- 300 g or so and if possible, pocketable. No need to carry your laptop with you. Because even the MacBook Air is too heavy and large.

Chek the first picture of:

Next Apple moves will be Books and Games…

Then, we will order thousands for our University.

Never using a tablet before, I can't figure out the practical application for one. Regardless, I would love one- they at least LOOK kinds cool. How would it function differently than a laptop? And I don't understand why apple would come out with yet another OS. I think having three OS's would be a lot to handle.

And both equally unuseable and tools of the wealthy. :p

A netbook is unusable. It is a web-surfing device and nothing more.

A tablet is ENDLESSLY usable. A tablet with a screen behind it is AMAZING for virtually anything.

The Adobe suite... ALL design software... general OS use!

OS XI will be FULLY MULTITOUCH. A tablet will be the "laptop" of the future.

If they can make it run a stripped down Photoshop so it becomes a type of Cintique-mini, it will demolish every other notebook/netbook/tablet on the market. Trounce.

Unfortunately, expect Apple to not do this - ever. Expect to paint with your fingers like a pre-schooler, not with a professional pressure-sensitive tool.

Of course, a hybrid tool/touch tablet surface would be the best of both worlds. Select the tools with your left fingers while drawing with the stylus using your right hand. Wacom makes this tech now, but no one uses it yet.

Does anybody else remember the patent about a computer being able to be inserted into what looked like an imac? it was posted few months back but how sweet would it be if the tablet was out and you could slide it into an imac or use as a 2nd screen but be able to access the hardware via express card and grand central in SL will take care of the rest:cool:

I only partially agree with that : for my limited needs when out of the office, a netbook would be perfect. I need : wireless access, text edition and music/video (just for the sake of working with music in a cafe or elsewhere).

I never used one, but I can see where you go with that. It would be really cool to have that kind of control for design software on a carriable device...

Maybe I should rephrase that then. One unusable, the other amazingly expensive. ;)

Even if WWDC was today, Steve Jobs keynoted it, and he introduced the MacBook Pad, I still wouldn't buy one. I've seen that sort of technology and it's so specialized it just doesn't even apply to my usage.

I'm not trying to completely poo-poo the form factor. I'll grant that it's useful to certain groups of folk. It's just that, well... I'm not one of them.
