I've never purchased an iPad, and am quite happy with my iPhone 4, but I love, LOVE coming to the forums after a new product is released. The butt hurt crying is priceless! :D

I'm more than happy with my iPad 3. I can't always afford to buy the latest and greatest, so I stick to a two year upgrade cycle for my gadgets. I got my iPad 3 this year, and I'm waiting till the next one before I upgrade.

OP has to calm down.
To OP, your iPad didn't become obsolete at night. It's still the iPad that was advertised. Live with it.

Let me start by clearing up what people keep saying... "Apple released the 4th gen on a couple months after the last generation." This is false... It is 2 weeks shy of 8 months since the last ipad. :p

I bought mine end of May! Very disappointed with Apple! I bought the top of the range model and now a new iPad! I think this is the first time I've been pi**ed off at Apple!

I'm really not happy! I know what people have been saying about technology moves on but to make my model obsolete in less than 12 months is ridicules!

BTW, the iPad 3 will not be obsolete. The 4s isn't obsolete, the iPad 2 isn't obsolete. Once a product stops being supported by Apple, it is actually obsolete.

Why is it a bad example? You seriously wouldn't be upset that you spent X amount of dollars on something and then a newer (better) version was announced a short while later?

It's a bad example because of the 2-year contract. Most people don't break it no matter what.

I decided that my being upset over this issue meant that my priorities are way out of balance. My ipad 3 will be donated to a worthy charity, I will go without an ipad to remind myself of the need to keep gratitude foremost in my mind & not succumb again to the temptation to snivel about 1st world problems.

It's not obsolete but the resale value has gone down a bit. If you're a yearly upgrader or just like to keep on top of the latest iPad you pretty much have to sell now to maintain maximum resale value. I will be skipping the iPad 4 for a Mini until the next generation comes out.

This is silly. There is nothing wrong with your iPad 3. I just got one for my wife a few months ago and it works as well today as it did yesterday. The ONLY thing the 4 has is the new connector and a faster processor.... neither of which have any real practical value in daily use, and the new connector is going to be a pain in the behind for probably the next year since everything uses the old one still.

i agree 100%.. announcing a newer ipad doesn't make the 3rd gen any worse. tech is always improving and people seemed conditioned that upgrades have to occur every 12 months or so.

The thing is though, Apple's tech is at least 1-2 years behind of what is currently possible. Apple just gives us what they think will be acceptable so they can retain their insanely high profit margins.

To be more frank: Apple could have easily of included the tech in the iPad 4 in the iPad 3 back in March/April.

It really is a bit of a douche move from Apple, though I'm not complaining since I made the imprudent choice to buy the 3.

Apple's greed really shined this time around.

I don't think the ipad was ever the FLAGSHIP device. If anything the iPhone is the flagship.

i think the iPad Mini will become Apple's flagship device once it has a retina display, then sales will really take off, this is Apple testing to see if their is a market for the iPad Mini.

If there is i expect the iPad sales to fall as more and more people buy the iPad Mini

They did it with the iPhone gave it only 2G to start with then next version had 3G once they knew it had a market and the sales took off ever since then.

Okay people - a bit of a left field thought, but how many bought their ipad on credit card? If you did, and you have some type of credit card insurance, check out what it covers - for instance I know mine covers any fall in price for 2 years after something is purchased - also covers complete replacement price if item is broken, lost or stolen within 6 months of purchase, hence if I had purchased a ipad3 say 3-4 months ago, it may be accidentally lost sometime soon. (this is not us, as ours is on loan, just saying is all)
I am not suggesting anything other than you check what any insurance policies you have may cover.....

Sure, suggest fraud. Break the law for your stupid little toy. Seriously, what is wrong with you people?

You'd be surprised what people could convince themselves even if it's unlawful. I bought both my iPad's with AMEX. The only way i'd file a claim if they legitimately broke after the first year.

I am not suggesting fraud! In fact the first point I made is that my insurance covers any fall in price for a 2 year period, secondly, they are not toys, in fact they are my disabled children's communication devices, thirdly, it isnt even an option for us as ours were not purchased on credit card - how is my points any worse than what others were discussing about apple care plus coverage etc?

Go on, try to justify it any way you want. It is obvious what you were implying. Either way, there is nothing wrong with your device. Your disabled child should be just fine with his/her iPad 3. So what was your point again?

Ruth, you don't need to put your name at the end of each post, it's on the left of every post you make

I bought my iPad3 in early September. I got a nice email from the Apple store a week later asking how things were and responded. The guy emailed back so I know it hadn't been just a form letter.

I emailed him again after the announcement, asking about upgrading to the new iPad. He said he'd heard of some stores doing so but "none of the stores here in Canada are allowed to do that".

I'm Ok with that, as my 3 of course still does exactly what I bought it for (live music production - it's an interesting experiment!). I even just ordered, at $150 incl. shipping, a refurb iPod4 to act as a satellite "synth" in my set-up.

Yes, my iDevice needs are less "consumptive" than perhaps most people (I don't use mine for email, etc.) and while future iterations of these machines will do amazing things my two current iDevices will do what I need them to do, at least until their batteries die off. Just get on with enjoying what you machine can do, as these are some very cool things.

I laugh at the people who claim the iPad 3 is obsolete. Half probably don't even know what the term means. The only time the iPad 3 will become obsolete is when they stop supporting new versions of iOS for it.

For now get over it, new Android devices come out weekly, you think the people who bought the nexus 7 16gb version are pissed now that you can get a 32gb version for the same price only a short time later?

I saw some friends of mine on facebook that they have just bought the new ipad (ipad 3rd gen) and they are so happy with it. Just days before and some days after the announce of ipad 4th gen. (There must have been discounts so they decided to buy)

I couldn't tell them that Apple just released the ipad 4th gen with better everything.. It might break their hearts.
