From my point of view as a total outsider , wanting but not owning an ipad, I believe this takes the total p**s out of all the apple customers who put themselves above all the android "lower class" , and state how great it is that apple have a pretty much 12 month plus refresh on all their major lines , and not 3 months like htc samsung or whomever ..

I own a fair few apple products , none of the "major " ones like laptops or desktops, but I guess the mighty dollar has now spoken and apples yearly product cycle type ethic is gone with a certain ceo

Sorry if that sounds harsh but its been going all the way back out at android users since 2007 , now Apple are aping their competitions product cycles and ranges !

Just because they did this once, does not mean this is the new standard!! I wish people would stop speculating about this. Wait until next year to see what they do. We have no idea what Apple's plan is for it's iDevice cycles. This is the only iDevice they have done this on.

Apple made a better iPad and you're upset. Makes no sense at all. i am glad Apple upgrades and improves.

Would you like some cheese with your wine OP? Technology is ever evolving. Getting upset because a company introduces a new and improved model is just idiotic. They have new tech that they can manufacturer and introduce now to make more money in holiday sales. Now if you have bought one day outside the return grace period I can see being irritated at the timing. You've had it for months, grow up and get over it.

I'm keeping my 3. It still runs the latest iOS & all the apps. No need for me to upgrade now.

i just called up Apple bc i am within the 30 days (today was day 19...5 days outside of return period) of the supposed exchange period extension. they told me no. i inquired about taking it to a store, they said don't even bother they won't help you.

wow...

anyways, i am still going to the store tomorrow

I think a few of the posters have hit the nail on the head - basically Apple are gouging, they have to price gouge and charge over the odds to maintain their share price and push it towards the much vaunted US$1000 mark - an absolute joke, bet hey, I'm not a financial analyst or owner of Apple shares.

now for those stated that iPad3 owners should be happy, this is not the case and here's the real reason why?

In September last year people began talking about 'Retina' this and 'Retina' that and like the iPhone the iPad should be Retina - Apple answered, but in doing so launched a seriously flawed product by way of the fact that Retina displays are hungry for GPU power and hence battery power - this time last year Apple also would have been working on its new connector and indeed the A6 chip - all of which was mean't to launch a new and improved iPad.

now, given what Apple know and had planned, I think it would have been better to launch the product that was launched yesterday ahead of the iPhone 5, probably in the June/July framework to catch the back-to-school market - instead, they kept to their 12 month timeframe for launches and launched a unfinished product onto the world and consumers brought it in their millions - Apple shares went up and all were happy, except, all those who actually supported Apple and in effect purchased a half realised product have been taken for fools - for low and behold only 7 months down the road the actual product Apple should have launched in March/April, came along yesterday.

if you think this analysis sucks, just consider this, the revamped iMac is still not available due to manufacturing issues and maybe supply constraints on top-end GPU units - now Apple could have just done a refresh in May and the revamp this month, they decided to wait and launch what they consider a good machine - I have my opinion on this - so, they should have done this with Retina iPad's rather than launch half arsed products with a shelf life on 6 months and then expect the people it has already gouged to come back for more - regretfully this is what they will do, for the latest iPad, as with the latest iPhone is a fashion and status symbol - its such a shame that they have now made the iMac essentially a fashion and status symbol - particularly given the new pricing of the thing.

I rest my case!!!!

You should have rested something else. Perhaps the keyboard.

I understand that you would be mad if it was less then a month but seriously. When you buy the device, you get what you paid for at the time you buy it. If your not satisfied with the iPad 4, just wait for the 5 next year. The iPad 3 is still a slick piece of hardware. Technology is always advancing, and you should be happy they don't release a new device every two months like Samsung, if that long.

In short I believe that I am the type of customer that Apple would liek to have...tech lover, tech savy, recognizes items are replaced / upgraded, willing to move / try OS X over Windows, would make a "full" transition (i.e. laptop, phone, and tablet) and, did I mention, have 3 Apple loving kids to boot!
.

This quote captures the extreme narcissism of apple fanlads--in this case--fandads To be so invested in a crappy $500 to $1000 item--I mean, Its inconcievable. I also love the resale value whining--"I had my entire savings locked in ipad3 futures, and now I am likely out a hundred dollars!" Pathetic. If the iphone is any indicator--the real ipad 4 will be much slimmer and lighter than the current version(s). But it will still be a crappy ios device with no file system or digitizer.

So my iPad 3 that I purchased 4 months ago has already been super-seeded by the iPad 4.

Can't believe how pissed of I am that the update has come so quickly. I feel like selling my iPad and telling them to stick it up their arses!!

The faster processor and better front camera is ideal for the iPad 3 retina display. This is what the iPad 3 should of been!

Super-seeded?

So why did you buy the iPad 3 if it wasn't good enough for you? You could have waited. Instead, you've had months of enjoyment.

No one is forcing you to buy an iPad 4. If you feel the need to upgrade annually, wait until March then buy an iPad 4. Boom. Annual upgrade.

Or do you just "need" to have the latest for no other reason than to have the latest?

Damn you, Apple, for building new things people want. Next time, ask the OP if it's OK to refresh your products.

I think people are just pissed because it's only been 7 months. I wasn't exactly thrilled to see the price of my iPad drop like that. I like the iPad and will probably just keep it. I just got rid of my iPhone and got a galaxy s3 for 99 dollars, I guess when u spend 99 dollars you don't care if the resale is nothing but when u almost put a grand in something you kind of want to think it will hold its value if it's apple.

I think this surprise is a good thing.

This will wake people up (hopefully) and teach people to keep what they have longer :apple:

The iPad you purchased had value you for you when you got it. Now because they introduced a newer model, suddenly the model you graveled over before isn't worthy anymore.. Seriously!

This is the way it is in the tech world. Geez, look at Android they come up with a newer, bigger better phone every 3 months.

Not sure you were referring to my post. But I didn't say, it wasn't worthy. I'm referring to the resale value of the device. I agree android does release a new phone every three months that's why I just got an S3 for 99 dollars.

Resell value of the device will hold up just fine. There are people selling iPad 1 on Ebay for $300. The fact that you got a $99 S3 is just indicative of Android devices not holding much value even right after they are purchased. By the way Android devices are fine, so I am not saying they aren't, just talking about long term resell value.

Oh I wasn't referring to your post, but I think you are right about the 7 month thing... To some degree its understandable... but hey this is the way it is in the tech world these days. Latest and Greatest Today... Not So Tomorrow!!

Don't know how anyone didn't see this coming after the introduction of the iPhone 5 with Lighting connector.

Did you really think that Apple would sell tens of millions of iPads with a connector they have announced they are phasing out?

iPad is a tool. Your tool can do the same tasks it could do last week. End of story.

100 million sold says file system and digitizer are irrelevant. When that changes you may have a point.
