There have been rumors for months that a new full sized iPad would be revealed, all of the just as credible as the iPad mini rumors. Just because you couldn't control yourself and wait a few more months is your fault.

Letter to Tim Cook. (Care for the middle class please)

My mom went out of her budget to gift me an iPad for my birthday. I said I don't need it but she knew I always wanted it. Now after 4 months, Apple is announcing an upgrade....moreover its stopping the iPad 3 totally.

TIM COOK....I know you are a hidden user. Please reply to this thread. We are not so rich like the Apple board of directors. Now I have accumulated enough for the new iMac but I suspect that after 4-5 months there will be a brand new model.

I believe this thread is a perfect example of a big issue with some people on MacRumors.

Baww it's no longest the latest device therefore I won't look at cool and cutting edge in Starbucks as I sip on my vanilla macchiato.

I suggest finding more important things to worry about.

The differences between the iPad 3 and iPad 4 are so little that it doesn't matter.

funny enough...i have not been to a starbucks in atleast 1 yr. Today I plan to meet a buyer at starbucks to sell my ipad 2. What ever it takes to get the sale and what is slick. I sell the ipad 2 for $320 and picked up this ipad 3 with 5% cashback on top ;)

Omg lets cry about... Seriously people. Don't ever buy an iPad if you're scared of it getting updated...

Dude its not about iPad 4...u know.. its about the sudden change in Apple's pace... previously there was a definitive 1 year gap. But now they shortened it by half that time. There can be several reasons but the thing is how to be sure that you invest 2k on a Retina MBP and not expect any update 3 months from now.

So my iPad 3 that I purchased 4 months ago has already been super-seeded by the iPad 4.

Can't believe how pissed of I am that the update has come so quickly. I feel like selling my iPad and telling them to stick it up their arses!!

The faster processor and better front camera is ideal for the iPad 3 retina display. This is what the iPad 3 should of been!

if you really want to stick it up their arses, don't sell your ipad 3. Before the new iPad came out how was your experience with your 3? I'm willing to bet that you were perfectly fine and happy with it and there were no clear occurrences of it being very slow and/or hard to use.

I understand that as a fellow ipad 3 owner it is entirely frustrating that Apple would abstract from their seemingly normal, predictable product cycle, but just because something better is out there doesnt always mean you should sell and always have the latest one, I believe you're smarter than to get flustered and buy into the Apple product hype-ruse

... Sounds greedy to me.

Yeah, how dare a commercial company actually attempt to make a PROFIT?? Next, little kids will start opening lemonade stands just to make money!!!

Seriously, I do find it a bit annoying too, but the upgrades in no way lessen the specs on the iPad 3rd gen, so the only ridiculous thing I see is the people reacting as if their 3rd gens have suddenly become obsolete.

So what if there is new model? I don't get it.

i'm shocked how ignorance has gotten you this far in life...

do you own an iPad 3? did you ever own an iPad 2? then you would know that the upgrade to ditch the A5X for the A6X is a substantial leap.

go play with an iPhone 5 and see for yourself

the same people that are bitching that their iPad has lost value, will flip their argument 180 degrees when they go to sell it.

"its only 2 generations out and still receives all the full upgrades. Its just as good as the current one cause it runs the same apps. The pics are amazing still. Soooooo $600? deal?"

It's only twice as fast but in real world that doesn't apply. Opening a Safari tab takes 5 milliseconds, so the iPad 4 will open it in 3 milliseconds?

For games yes the jump is substantial but only if you play high-end 3D games, not Angry Birds.

It still has the same form factor, battery life, weight, etc. I don't think it is a subsantial leap either.

Stop being short sighted

Samsung and Android come out with a different unit every week pushing innovation constantly-are you telling me you want Apple to be slow, fat and lazy with their technology? No, we want them to be quick and push the upgrades. No one says you have to buy the very next thing. Stop whining. Apple knows how to run a business. Geeks I guess don't.

@DoctorYuyi not really true

i have gone back about a month on the Mac Rumors site and saw some posts that deny or do not believe there will be a new iPad released, that the specs were out there, but they did not believe a new ipad was to be launched. I know there are other sites, but we are on this one.

I bought mine 4 months ago and there was no mention of an eminent refresh, as there was when the gen 2 launched. I waited for that for my daughter and she has used it through school.

For people who don't get it, think about buying a new TV and you get it at $500 and week later you see the same TV for $350, that's essentially what happened to us. Tell me you don't get pissed off at that. Tell me that's not annoying. and Apple doesn't have specials, its the price and that's it. My model is priced at $469, $130 under what i paid for it.

I bought mine 4 months ago, there was not talk of a refresh or I would have waited. I do have some issues with my model, but I have called 800-275-2273 twice, was given a $100 off coupon on a product. I say call and complain and see what happens.

If this is true, then maybe you and moms should stay within budget, or maybe you can be grateful you got an iPad to begin with, and not worry about what you dont have and instead be happy with what you do.

But I don't understand what grounds you have to get mad? The iPad does the EXACT same thing you thought it would do when you bought it. Technology advances. I think it is awesome apple has updated it and isn't falling way behind like usual. If you bought it in the last 30 days they allow you to return it. Otherwise it is still the same iPad you bought on launch day....

how;d u get the discount and free smart cover?

Why is it a bad example? You seriously wouldn't be upset that you spent X amount of dollars on something and then a newer (better) version was announced a short while later?

Why? The device I would have purchased still work as advertised and does everything I want? Why would I be angry at that? Not like a new device comes out and they one I got a day before stops working and never turns on again....

Yeah this is how normal folks think! Plus I'm 31 years old, my phone or any tech is not my status symbol. I dont care if I have the latest and greatest, I'm just happy to have what I have because it's cool and fun! When people become adults, havign the latest and greatest tech becomes dust, you care about other things like life, and fun, not about having the newest iPad!

You don't have to act like a 5 year old. The difference between 5 milliseconds and 3 milliseconds isn't that much of a difference.

It sounds nice when you hear that it's two times quicker, but for the vast majority of uses you won't notice anything at all until they start to upgrade iOS to need more processing power.

i've owned both an iPad 2 w/ A5 and an iPad 3 w/ A5X. the A5X is slow compared to the A5 in the iPad 2 b/c so much processing is just to power the retina screen and graphics intensive apps such as Metal Storm stutter and hiccup very frequently. the graphics aren't fluid like on the iPad 2 w/ A5. when you fire a rocket, the smoke trail expands outwards in steps, chopping along until it vanishes. with the iPad 2, it moves outwards fluidly like smoke actually behaves. also, when viewing graphics intensive web pages in safari the iPad 3 w/ A5X takes longer and hiccups frequently when zooming in or scrolling. this is my 3rd iPad 3, the previous 2 were exchanged bc of backlight bleed. all 3 iPads have horrible problems keeping up

opening a tab as a comparison is a moot point...an atom process can open a tab. it all depends on what you do with the tab where you start to see where the A5X offers an inferior experience when it comes to fluidity of motion compared to the iPad 2 w/ A5. the retina screen is wonderful, for sure, it's just that the A5X was insufficient to provide the same fluid experience as on the iPad 2.

yes, it does have the same form factor, battery life (as Apple advertises, but we know that Apple doesn't always report increased battery life like it did with the iPad 2,4), and weight. the A6X supposedly is a more efficient chip but whether this efficiency was poured directly into performance or also into power management won't be known until there are real world tests

the spec bump from the A5X to the A6X alone is worth the upgrade. but look, no one is suggesting anyone go flip their iPad 3 and take a $150 hit. however for someone like me who purchased their iPad 3 on October 3 and thus falls within the unofficial 30 day return period...it's a no brainer to upgrade.

the original comment wreaked of ignorance, i pointed out that ignorance. explain how that makes me a 5 year old???

the 3ms vs 5ms for opening up a tab shouldn't even be an argument. that's not why Apple upgraded the processor, is it? NO. they upgraded it so the iPad wouldn't hiccup or stutter anymore, and graphics intensive apps would be more fluid in motion.

let it go already...your example of tab opening is irrelevant

Finally someone who isn't a moron that doesn't notice that the A5X wasn't cut to power the iPad 3. I am not sure why a lot of people are saying that the iPad 3 was perfectly fine. Most of those people never owned an iPad 3. And for the ones who claim to own one should actually start to use their iPad 3 for graphic intense applications

+1

i hear you bro, thanks for the +1.

the A5X is horrendous - it should never have even existed. Apple should have accelerated development of the A6 and implemented that into the "new" iPad. but of course, they didn't...yet another example of rationing features. i don't even play Metal Storm anymore b/c it's unbearable to look at. movies are OK b/c the iPad shines for video encoding (always has). graphics intensive games and other apps are where the A5X = an epic fail

it's OK though, b/c i am within the 30 day unofficial exchange window and i will be ditching this POS and getting the iPad 4 with the ADEQUATE processor.

props to us both for having to battle it out with the large numbers of posters on here who think that opening up tabs and checking email mean that the A5X is adequate and accuse us of "not knowing what we're talking about". i used to own an iPad 2 w/ A5 as i mentioned earlier, so i know how fluid the iPad should be. the A6X will bring fluidity back to the iPad Retina (thank gosh...it truly will be a godsend for the product)

Im more than happy with the 3rd Gen I got at launch and it looks like I am going to get longer out of it than I did with the iPad 2 which I upgraded after only a year seeing as the 5th Gen iPad probably wont be released until this time 2013.

Its not like the 3rd gen units are no longer going to work the iPad 2 still works fine, my wife uses it all the time. Think of all the poor folk that bough an iPad 2 last christmas just before the retina iPad in March, now that would have pissed me off lol.

Unless some amazing must have game comes out just for the 4th Gen unit then Im staying with the 3rd gen which runs everything I need perfectly, both for work and gaming.
