Yes. From galaxy s9+(unlocked) U1 model on ATT. New Verizon XS Max arriving Tuesday. Have not had an iPhone since the iPhone 1 in 2007 or so. It will take getting used to. I want a more secure device and apple isnt as bad at selling people's info for targeted ads like google is. Apple makes their money from hardware, google makes theirs from advertising. And... iPhones look like a step up in class :)

I did forget to mention that I miss the Always on Display a ton... Probably the biggest “issue” in my mind, ha.

This.

AoD really is a great feature, and useful.

Without it, when walking by your phone laying on the table, the iPhone looks like it's powered off, you have no idea if you missed a call or text. You have to actually grab and pick up the iPhone to check

But AoD on Android, you walk by and can see if there's a missed call then pick up your phone, otherwise if you don't see one, just keep the phone on the table.

Curious your review. You've been with Android a long time, will be interested in hearing how you like or don't like using an iOS device.

Switched from a Note 8. Not sure if I'm keeping the note anymore. iOS 12 is nice, have many useful features. Does not feel as lacking as before. Got lots of Android like features.

I do miss the notification light on Android. I don't miss the curved screen on the note at all. I do miss Android Auto. Most of all, I miss the clipboard. That was so handy.

I'm also thinking of grabbing a stylus for the phone. I only wish Apple make Apple Pencil compatible.

I've had too many iPhones and Android phones to list. But my most recent are as follows.

7 plus
Note 8
LG v30
Note 8
iPhone 8 plus
iPhone X
Note 9
iPhone Xs Max

The Note 9 is a powerful android phone. Probably one of the best. It is fast, and very useful especially the spen. However, I had multiple problems that were not going to be fixed in a certain timeframe, and decided, to return my Note 9. Issues like Camera freezing, battery life not great for a 4k device when trying to get it to last all day, and crappy Samsung Support. When I ordered and got the Max, I was very surprised at how much the screen size can win me over on the X. I am really happy with face id speed, and the phone. The battery life is insane on the max vs my note 9. I have 70% left on the Max where my Note 9 only had 30% at the end of the day with the same use.

I swap back and forth a lot, but I am done now doing that. Phones are becoming outrageously expensive to keep swapping them. I did the yearly upgrade on my next plan with AT&T, and that will be my timeframe if I upgrade again.

Also, my work phone is a S9+ I use daily as well. So I have best of both worlds.

Here's one thing I don't like about the iPhone: no universal swipe back to go back on every interface of 3rd party app. Sometimes you have to click on the top left corner to go back.

On my note 8, I installed gestures and when I swipe right on the bar, no matter what app, it universally goes back. I also miss my battery percentage on the top and notification light.

What I like is my battery lasting all day on a single charge with moderate to heavy usage. My note 8 had pretty bad battery. It will need another charge to last all day.

How I like to do gestures on my note 8 swipe right on the bottom bar to go back. Swipe left to open app list. Switched swipe up to go home.

One small hack - if you touch the screen your alerts pop up.

That’s how i check for alerts when my phone is asleep.

Switched from pixel 2 xl. For me it was getting better apps than android. No matter what people say, iOS apps are still way more polished than android. I love how free you can do things with android where as apple is locked in but I can live with that now. One of the main reasons I switched is because I no longer tweak and customize my phones anymore. All I do is open and close apps and do day to day things. iOS does that beautifully.

That's me until I get bored. Most popular apps are just as good on Android now.

Now with one hand operation gesture my note 9 has gesture based navigation that is very much better than what iPhone can offer.

Firstly gesture is activated from right edge so now I can use the phone one handed with ease.

Can have 6 gestures instead of 2 with iPhone. Swipe, and swipe and hold like iPhone. But with additional of swipe angle (horizontal, diagonal up,diagonal down)

Long time Note user and yet you dont know how to set and use it? You dont know you can set button to double-press to prevent accidental presses.

I could have, but didn’t feel I should have too. Note 8 was the first one with the dedicated button and now it was the last Note I’ll own. Bixby is a joke along with Samsung’s App Store. Don’t need Googles version and sammy’s version of the same thing. And updates.....if your lucky

This is me now, too. I love the freedom of Android for customization, but sometimes I feel like I spend all my time doing THAT and not actually using the phone! Never satisfied with launchers, icons, so many choices, etc. However, I do miss launchers that have the Google Now integration (slide from left), and Google Maps as well. It is SO feature-rich on Androids, I can’t believe the difference from the iPhone version!. I drive a lot in NYC, so I love the periodic traffic updates and info on upcoming events in my city. There’s always something happening here, but I don’t find out until I’m stuck in the middle of the accident or parade or whatever. GM is what I consider a true “utilities” app, and that’s what really draws me to the Android platform.

This is an excellent answer and has probably tipped me over the edge. The last sentence is me and I cant deny it.

One thing I always thought Android done better was keyboards and word predictions. I just swiped this post using gboard. Works quite well on iOS. Seems to work better on iOS then Android. Perfect example how iOS apps are superior to Android. Even Google's keyboard feels better to use to me on iPhone. Apple keyboard and predictions is terrible.

Edit: wow I just discovered 3d touch any where on the keyboard moves the cursor. 3d touch+gboard crazy combo.

Yes, switched from the Galaxy S9+, but mainly had iPhones before that. The freedom and choice of Android was refreshing, but I have a soft spot for Apple, I didn’t like how much access Google had to my data, I knew I’d hate the lack of software updates more and more over time, I really wanted the X’s gesture-based navigation, I hated the battery drain in standby compared to iOS, I wanted the Apple ecosystem, and I preferred the more full-screen flat screen notch design over Samsung’s curved screen with top and bottom bezels.

I was still very happy with Android and my S9+ when I left, but I knew I’d only want to switch back to iOS more and more over time. I wouldn’t last another year till the next iPhone and the S9+ retail value would’ve dropped significantly, so I took advantage, sold the S9+, and switched to the XS Max. I feel confident that I will be keeping this phone for a few years which is rare for me.

How are you finding iOS and the iPhone?

Just switched from a Galaxy S8+
Miss AOD.. running late in the morning and in the shower?
Just peek your head out and check the time, glance over at anytime for that matter.

Then just simple things that make sense on android that you cant do on ios.
Small annoyances, like setting notification volume independently from ringer volume.
Android notifications are still better, You have tons more info right in front of you at all times easily accessible.

the customization obviously and much more freedom in a way
that is more PC like, where you can install much more freely.

Not having any full ad blocking is killing me on the new xs.

But Android this year to me is a bit boring, and the pixel 3 will have a notch, if im going to get stuck with a notch
its going to be the original..

The XS max is great as its very stable, and the battery life is great, just wanted a bit of a change and kind of needed
imessage as the rest of the family has it android sms is terrible, However now i cant txt any of my android friends at all now as I dont have service inside the home and Imessage wont send txt over wifi to any other devices unless its ios so im completely cut off.

Oh, I also miss a feature i used ALL the time, swipe from the right side of your screen to get screenshot, or take a gif screenshot of a playing video. I have not been able to find anything on ios that will let me take a screenshot from a video and turn it into a 15 sec gif on the fly.

Oh so you got an Essential phone? ;)

Just kidding. And yeah I agree with pretty much everything you said. I had an iPhone 6 and 6s Plus then got bored with iOS and went to Android with my Pixel 2. I miss the AOD, the way Android handles notifications, etc...

I switched to the Max because I wanted a great large OLED screen. Not a fan of Galaxy phones because I don't like what they do to pure Android, so that left only the Pixel 3 XL (which looks absolutely horrible) or the iPhone Max. Wife was going to get a Max anyway, so I jumped on board to get the $700 off promo through Verizon.

Still keeping my small Pixel 2 for now. But I love the display on this phone so much that I don't see how I could go back. I heard that maybe Android on the Galaxy S10 won't be skinned as heavily... Maybe then I could go back to Android and find a friend that wants my Max.

I use G board as well.. truly life saver for me on iOS. I would be so frustrated with the stock keyboard.
Dictation is still the best on Android. iOS lacks so much in comparison... No way Siri compares with Google for dictation. The G board dictation is not as good as it is on Android.

I am a fan of both Apple and Google and there are things Google excel over Apple and Apple excels over Android / Google. Some of people here insist 1 better than the other but I think both are equally good now. Android was not good in the very beginning but have leap frogged and both "inspires" each other with useful features. iOS 12 now have grouped notifications! Yas! and a file system something that is inspired from Android. Android have Google Messages which is inspired from iMessage.

I am LOVING my XS Max!!! :) [However, I will have a special place in my heart for the Samsung Note line too) :D

p.s.... I still don't like the notch but will suffer through it and awaiting for notch-less iPhones.
