I was all ready and set to make the switch but the cellular reception issues are making me think twice about keeping my preorder. I live in an area with a dicey signal to begin with and if the XS can't pick it up it is going to be an expensive web browser and little else.

Really hoping that there is some kind of software fix because I have never had an apple product and was going to convert all my tech over to apple after a lot of deliberation.

I could easily rest my case with that statement!

It most certainly doesn't do what I need. If my elderley aunt asked for my smartphone recommendation I would say iPhone. It's great for less demanding users and those who aren't able or don't want to spend time configuring it.

That's the point why I switched from Android to iOS. I was spending more time configuring the flagship Android than actually enjoying the product.

It is an expensive device, If you have any reservations you should wait.

I never do, iPhone X’s max, Apple Watch, and AirPods, that combination is hard to beat. Couple that with apples return policy and apple support app, not much room for concern, at least for me. Always a first day iPhone buyer.

Good luck on your decision

How is Apple for fixing things under warranty? I'm concerned that if the reception issue turns out to be pronounced they'll just blame the carrier.

Ordered two iPhone X’s max 512gb.

One is perfect, the other has pink shift at the top.
In the apple support app:
4 Clicks and and apple support representative calls within Minutes or you can pick a time.

Tell them what’s wrong, if it’s a defect they will give the option to send it in or go to the apple store for an exchange.
If you decide to send it box it up and somebody should pick it up next day.

It was that simple for me.
If you live near an apple store it’s even easier.
Exchange or refund.

what do you need to configure on android to make it work out of the box?

Interesting to read that most people change just because they are bored of the other platform. Or that iOS is boring because of the grid of apps. I am not sure what the fascination is with having an almost empty screen or a weather widget constantly on your home screen. A phone OS is used for communication and apps, what else are you really wanting? This constant yearning for something less "boring" when it comes to a smartphone is crazy to me.

Honestly the majority of the weather widgets I've seen on Android devices are completely hideous. Maybe that someone's preference, but it's baffling how someone could deal with a widget that takes up the majority of their home screen.

I don’t understand why some users feel that apple would remove the app grid on the home screen, it might please said users but it would dispel iPhone users that actually like it.

Same goes for widgets, swipe from the left instead of on the home screen.
You can also swype from the left on the lock screen.

I just don't see the point and it's one of things that people constantly want on their home screen for some reason.

I'm surprised that a company so big into design doesn't have a cleaner home screen tbh. I only use a half dozen apps with any frequency, it looks much more visually appealing to have the home screen uncluttered and free of unused apps.

It’s really simple. Apple wants you to use apps. Both for making money and for having you get value out of your device. Therefore the home screen is full of apps. It’s intentional guys.

yeah seriously. why would someone choose useful widgets over covering up their wallpaper with apps and folders?

Well you don't have to, you can have the first screen blank if you want to see your wallpaper again after you just saw it on your lock screen. Or you can swipe to the left to see your useful widgets, or choose from your even more useful apps. Good options.

hahah did you just call having to create a 2nd home screen just to view your wallpaper a "good option"?? thats like putting all the apps you never use into a folder called "apps that are useless but apple won't let me delete them" and calling that a "good option".

hate to break it to you but those are called compromises. but i get it, why would anyone want a 5 day weather forecast, or their favorite stock, or a calendar or reminders directly on the home screen? so dumb and useless....

If it's that critical for you to see a picture on your home screen, then yes it's an option. That's all I am saying. Correct, all of those things are available with a quick swipe, while keeping all your most frequently used apps on the home screen. It's useful and works well.

Ah yes the apple moto "it just works with a few extra swipes"

I’ve had iPhone since day one in 2007.

In that time, on 3 lines, I’ve tried a couple of other offerings.

They were Blackberry Storm, S3, and Samsung S4 Edge. Liked them all.

All phones nowadays are pretty much great products. I loved a lot of Android features along with the growth of iOS.

In the end iOS is just more natively ingrained in how I set up and use my phone, along with more in tune with almost all my friends and family that use iPhone and Apple products.

We seem to have got into a bit of a "this and that is better in such and such." I have just moved back from being on Android since the iPhone 5, I now have a XS, I love it, but here's the thing, it does some things better than Android, it does others worse.

The ability to have ones home screen how one wants, rather than a company telling one how it should be, is in Androids favour, if one wants to have an Apple set up on an Android screen, one can do it, but it cant be done the other way round. If one only uses 3 apps, they can be put on an Android screen exactly where one's thumb falls easily, on an iPhone, those 3 apps go to the top left corner, the furthest they could possibly be for a right handed user and almost guarantees that the user would need to use two hands.

Both OS are really polished and as said in the previous post "great", I like them both. For the next year or two I will be using and enjoying an iPhone, after that? Who knows.

I live in a area with weak signal on my phones, and my Xs Max is just fine. People need to reset their network settings and it fixes the issue. Many do not have any issues.

Yep, when I am having anxiety constantly watching what apps are eating my battery life up (Note 9), or having to constantly fix apps causing issues, that is wasting my time. The iPhone just works and I don't have to do any of that. And for probably 90% of the people, the iPhone does what most users need and does it well.

Yep, and Samsung, call them, wait on hold for an hour, then you get a foreign person, and then, they troubleshoot, sometimes won't believe you, might take multiple calls, and when they decide to replace, you will be without a phone for 2 weeks. They don't send you a replacement and you send yours back.

I went from a Note8 to a Max and so far so good ios12 is smooth as silk face id is great i have only had one time it was slow on recognition the phone is FAST and the gestures are smooth.
