Right now with sake pricing there's a $50 price difference between the two sizes $85 if you have to go through Apple for financing but likely they will discount the oencil and keyboard 10% also to compensate..

The ambient light sensors changing screen temperature won't be turned on for photo editing and for video so not sure it's going to matter. That's about 80% or more of my iPad usage. The rest is web searching.

I don't take the iPad out of the house so portability isn't an issue.

I do transfer photos from a dslr via usb so the faster speed maters.

I do watch a ton of video so the bigger screen size may be good.

I wish I Could do YouTube video making on the iPad but I can't find any way to do it importing video from external Camera is possible but iMovie seems so limited. No multi camera - no sound syncing for multi camera. And the default templates and stuff. Compared to the cyber link stuff I use on surface it's not good. Maybe there's a better software YouTube videographers are using I don't know about ?

I do own a surface pro 3 though running all the desktop photo editing software (not well) that does a lot of video (not TiVo steaming) and hatband the bigger screen

The new iPad is an air 2 replacement an some of the main focuses is drawing for me. Well
Learning to. I'm all photography right now and want to learn other visual media disciplines.

I'd like to sell the surface and get a desktop Mac. Then use Astro to convert the iPad to drawing tablet for Photoshop and Lightroom. Also it seems it would work well as a general Remote Desktop.

The upgrade for me. - I'd like the pencil. Better speakers. And yah I prefer the big screen for video. I have an iPhone 6s Plus that I end up ding a lot of my lookups on.

For cameras I have a 5d2. Rx1. And rx100 for shooting video. Though the convenience of the iPhone is hard to beat. So I wonder if I'd use the iPad for Multi cam Stuff. If I don't edit on the iPad for video then the answer is probably no.

Right now my thought is go get a 13" and see. See if the screen satisfies me for color fidelity and temperature. But honestly until I sell the surface if I do thenipad is a big media device and sketch pad. And either pro is very expensive for that.

I stream
Music and automobile tommy house via Amazon echo or Bluetooth hooked up to the stereo.

The current iPad screen is ok. The sound is abysmal.

Sensibly I'd just connect my turtle beach headphones and move it closer to my face. But since when have any of us here been sensible.

So what do
You think? And have you bought a 13" iPad despite the announcement ?

I really should test filter storm / photo gene more with raw files and see if that works because aside fork that raw workflow on iPad absolutely sucks.

I don't usually have issues deciding what to buy but this one has me back and forth. The little pro has a lot more tech inside it. But the bigger one is faster with better specs. And I use an eye fi and built in wifi on another camera for most of the video and image transfer.

Edit

One MORE thing. I don't find split screening good or useful on the 10 inch but I use it regularly on the 13" surface pro. So that's another reason I'd like the bigger size.

I guess the question for me is would I shoot video with it. The screen temp change while nice for reading isn't a big deal when you prefer color accuracy.

I use Live Photos all the time that's one thing.

Few day ago,I got an iPad Pro 12.9 128GB Wifi Onlyfrom bestbuy for $865 including sale tax. Now, I just purchased an iPad Pro 12.9 128GB Cellular from Bhphoto.com for $945 NO sale tax.

If I purchase an iPad Pro 9.7 128GB Cellular from Apple store or bestbuy now, I would have to pay $952, which means that the 9.7 is little more expensive thab the 12.9

Well I'm using the 0% financing option so I have to go to the Apple Store but they'll price match the wifi price at $799. Isn't means they discount the keyboard and oencil to get there or close to it.

I'm not sold on the keyboard. I would have to get the faster sub camera stuff and the oencil. Bonfire roughly for me the entire package is discounted 10%. It's a but more expensive then tha the 9.7. But it's still way less than the initial price.

If the 13" was still at launch pricing with no discount and without the newer tech. I wouldn't get it. But when the prices get close to me it's a decision of whether love photos. The automatic temperatures screen change or the cameras are worth trading ram processor and screen real estate.

How do you feel about the 13" compared to your previous 10" if you had one ? One concern for me is docking. That's going to be pretty big and heavy and probably won't dock to my everdock duo. Something I just considered.

Why not the 9.7? What swayed you ?
when the 12.9 was announced I was mildly interested, but turned off by the price. I was looking forward to a 9.7 version that would be the hardware equivalent to the 12.9 but smaller. Unfortunately, the 9.7 is not.

The three biggies for me are:
  • 2GB RAM vs. 4GB (12.9 model)
  • USB 2.0 vs. USB 3.0 (12.9 model)
  • Pricing... given the previous 2 items on this list, the price should've been the same as the Air 2
The Air 2 was released 18 months ago and has 2GB RAM. That is when the clock started ticking for the lifespan of a 2GB device. A 9.7 Pro with 2GB RAM is still on that same timeline, albeit with a faster processor.

The 12.9 Pro with 4GB RAM started the clock ticking for the lifespan of a 4GB device... which was released only 6 months ago.

The Air 2 and 9.7 Pro will both reach effective limitations of iOS at the same time. The 12.9 Pro is much "younger" in its respective timeline.

Add to all of that sales on the 12.9 Pro ($150 off) and that brought the 128GB 12.9 Pro within $50 of the 9.7 Pro. That was what finally tipped the scales and prompted me to order a 128GB 12.9 Pro.

That is my reasoning behind my decisions, obviously others will disagree. :)

I read a lot of posts on the forum and a lot of people really seem to like the extra screen size which I just found intriguing. So I went to the store to play with it. I already have the size of the 9.7 in my iPad Air. I figured if I was going to buy a new one I'd like it to be a little bit different. I went back-and-forth when I was at the store because it really did feel very large. But I played around on Mac rumors and I looked at the split screen, and both were really nice on the large screen. One of the things I'm interested in doing is having a Notes app next to websites where I could actually jot down notes or quotes that I wanted to keep. I think this will help me in some of the online courses that I'm taking as well as when I am doing my bills since I usually use a piece of paper for that.

After about 15 or 20 minutes playing with the iPad Pro in the store I went over to the iPad Air. I could see what other people are saying about the air seeming small after experiencing the pro. I put the split screen up with MacRumors as well as notes next to each other and it was really hard to read the website. This might seem silly but this decided it for me. I really want to play with the pencil and I want it to be useful. for me this means having a website and a Notes app next to each other. Both need to be big enough for both to be useful.

I ended up getting a white bezeled one which I think was a great decision for me. To me it doesn't look as gigantic. I brought it home and have been playing with it as much as I can. I love this thing. Most the time when I buy something expensive I have a lot of buyers remorse and regret it want to be perfect. With this thing I'm just happy and excited. For me it was the right choice.

Excellent. I'm going it go to the store today as its he last day I can maybe get then to give the big discount as the price match to staples would end today. I can't get quite as low as $150 off. But close. I do feel despite having an order in for the 10" I should at least go and look at the 13".

I wish the rear camera was better not for taking photos but for quickly recoding video for some stuff I do. Less transferring etc.

Are many apps optimized for the extra screen yet? That was one concern after I read that mail for example just had huge margins.

How are things like tapatalk. Plex. Hulu. Netflix.

I too am interested in multi window stuff and the 10" doesn't cut it.

I agree the clock will start ticking for two gigs soon however I also think it's ticking from not having Live Photos and such.

I bought a 12.9 because I needed the screen real estate for sketching and running Astropad. If you don't do that, then it's overkill, because I would prefer the 9.7 for everything else due to its better portability.

In all reality I don't see a point to a 12.9 inch iPad if it wasn't for the Pencil and my sketching needs. For that large a screen even with media consumption I'd rather carry around my actual laptop than an iPad.

Same exact reasons. eBay has 32 GB 12.9 iPad Pro for $649.99, which is what I purchased. Split screen on larger screen is like 2 iPad mini's. With the price only being $50 more and the new 'features' aren't anything special I went big. Fastest and largest iPad period!

I'm very happy with my 12.9" iPP. Would have bought it even if the 9.7" was available way back in November.

Love the roomy screen. 4GB RAM should help maintain performance with future iOS versions. Faster processor than the 9.7" should also help with future iOS versions. USB 3 speeds when paired with appropriate hardware. Screen size is virtually the same size as a real sheet of paper. Higher resolution than the 9.7" version - split screen mode gives equivalent of two 9.7" iPads side-by-side.

Edit: here's what 4GB can do for you... Split screen app plus a PiP video window.

I watched the keynote and decided to pull the trigger on a 128GB 12.9" (to replace my IPad Air 1).

I've also realised that I don't actually need my MacBook Pro!

I have fairly basic needs for compute use, but I've come to realise since getting the IPP that having my MBP connected to a Thunderbolt Display, is, whilst really nice, but ultimately, an unnecessary luxury (expense!).

Once you see the sale prices for the 12.9" (Best Buy, Staples, etc), you'll pull the trigger. I did. Nothing quite compared to have a huge screen.

So something that's come up. Again I have to buy through Apple to get 0% financing which I want to do this time for various reasons vs dropping cash outright. - I already own a keyboard that will work for the 10". So that $59 price difference turns into s realistic $150 at least. I haven't been able to make it to Apple to see the 13" today. My recovery has sucked lately. If I don't get there shortly it's a moot point anyway.

I'm leaning toward the 10" because I have the surface 13" already and a big iPhone. Eventually a decent software package will arrive and the video on the smaller one will come into play for me.

But man I love the split screen multitasking we get on 13" machines.

I don't however like soft keyboards even in portrait on that size. It's. arduous.

I appreciate all the responses. I'm flip flopping more than a Tuesday night debate.

I can't do 32gb. Not enough space. I could do 64 but alas they know how to make someone spend more

Part of me says I should buy the 12" with s price match and see what i think six e the good price expires today for me. I hate buying and returning stuff though. Especially when I feel I've just demod the machine.

I was dead set on the iPP 10 until the 2gb memory fiasco. Don't care for the camel hump camera and screen gimmicks. The much faster USB-C charging speed and USB 3.0 connectivity are also huge pluses! So I placed an order for the $950 shipped 128gb LTE from B&H so I don't have the pay the ridiculous state tax in CA. If I bought the iPP 9.7 from Apple it would've been basically $940 after taxes! I really thought about getting the 256gb model, but the almost $370 difference between the two (price of 12.9 256gb + tax as BH doesn't have them yet)is just too much to swallow!!

Same here. $949 without sale tax shipped to Texas. What color did you get? I purchased a gold one, but I just requested BhPhoto send me silver one instead.

That was my experience to a freaking T. I wasn't interested in getting a bigger iPad at all after the pro keynote. Thought I was just fine with my iPad Air 2. Then I tried one in the store. It literally took 10 minutes for me to get so used to the screen size that going back to the iPad Air actually felt weird.

What a weird perspective changing experience
