iPad Pro Any buy the 13" after the 10" announcement ? Can't decide.

Remember, although bhphotovideo.com is a website, they basically work like in their brick store. They stop accepting orders during the weekend, sometime until Sunday night.
They always close from Friday night until Saturday night because their superstore in NYC also closes during that time.

I passed on the 12.9 inch BECAUSE of the size. My favorite thing to do at the end of a rough day is get in bed and watch a good movie on my iPad. After trying a 12.9 out, I decided that when I want to use it as a traditional tablet while relaxing, it's just too much hardware.

The 9.7" model changed my mind though. I love my mini 3 but I feel like with iOS 9 I missed out on some productivity opportunities I had with my old Air, which I had sold. So the mini 3 is going to my wife to replace her original mini, and I'm getting the 9.7" Pro.

The ambient light sensors changing screen temperature won't be turned on for photo editing and for video so not sure it's going to matter. That's about 80% or more of my iPad usage. The rest is web searching.

I don't take the iPad out of the house so portability isn't an issue.

I do transfer photos from a dslr via usb so the faster speed maters.

I do watch a ton of video so the bigger screen size may be good.

I wish I Could do YouTube video making on the iPad but I can't find any way to do it importing video from external Camera is possible but iMovie seems so limited. No multi camera - no sound syncing for multi camera. And the default templates and stuff. Compared to the cyber link stuff I use on surface it's not good. Maybe there's a better software YouTube videographers are using I don't know about ?

I do own a surface pro 3 though running all the desktop photo editing software (not well) that does a lot of video (not TiVo steaming) and hatband the bigger screen

The new iPad is an air 2 replacement an some of the main focuses is drawing for me. Well
Learning to. I'm all photography right now and want to learn other visual media disciplines.

I'd like to sell the surface and get a desktop Mac. Then use Astro to convert the iPad to drawing tablet for Photoshop and Lightroom. Also it seems it would work well as a general Remote Desktop.

The upgrade for me. - I'd like the pencil. Better speakers. And yah I prefer the big screen for video. I have an iPhone 6s Plus that I end up ding a lot of my lookups on.

For cameras I have a 5d2. Rx1. And rx100 for shooting video. Though the convenience of the iPhone is hard to beat. So I wonder if I'd use the iPad for Multi cam Stuff. If I don't edit on the iPad for video then the answer is probably no.

Right now my thought is go get a 13" and see. See if the screen satisfies me for color fidelity and temperature. But honestly until I sell the surface if I do thenipad is a big media device and sketch pad. And either pro is very expensive for that.

I stream
Music and automobile tommy house via Amazon echo or Bluetooth hooked up to the stereo.

The current iPad screen is ok. The sound is abysmal.

Sensibly I'd just connect my turtle beach headphones and move it closer to my face. But since when have any of us here been sensible.

You think? And have you bought a 13" iPad despite the announcement ?

I really should test filter storm / photo gene more with raw files and see if that works because aside fork that raw workflow on iPad absolutely sucks.

I don't usually have issues deciding what to buy but this one has me back and forth. The little pro has a lot more tech inside it. But the bigger one is faster with better specs. And I use an eye fi and built in wifi on another camera for most of the video and image transfer.

One MORE thing. I don't find split screening good or useful on the 10 inch but I use it regularly on the 13" surface pro. So that's another reason I'd like the bigger size.

I guess the question for me is would I shoot video with it. The screen temp change while nice for reading isn't a big deal when you prefer color accuracy.

I use Live Photos all the time that's one thing.

I purchased the 12.9 after learning of ram-gate and the 9.7.
 
Hello,

I currently have an iPad 3 from 2012 and I think now I can finally justify to upgrade ...

Here in Austria I have the following options to choose from:

refurb iPad Air 2 64GB for 439 Euro
refurb iPad Air 2 128GB for 519 Euro
new iPad Pro 9.7" 32GB for 650 Euro
new iPad Pro 12.9" 128GB for 975 Euro

Productive-wise I mainly use it for Garageband and Logic Remote

My current plan is:
Take the iPad Air 2 64Gb or 128GB and wait for 2nd gen to make the jump to the giant iPad Pro ...

I think I would take the iPad Pro if there were major discounts (like in the US), but with the current prices, I think the iPad Air 2 is the better deal

Any tipps?

I'm getting the 12.9" after 9.7" announcement, since I can get a 12.9" 128GB + LTE for only 50€ more than 9.7" 128GB Wifi only..

I assume you also live in Germany, just take a look at Ebay-kleinanzeigen, a lot of people are selling new iPad Pro's, most iPads coming from mobile-contracts and you can easily buy a sealed 128GB + 4G for 900 if you negotiate long enough

Wound up picking up the 12.9 inch Pro today at the Apple Store. I got the Smart Keyboard and the Apple Pencil with it. After using the device for most of the day, including a class where I rely heavily on the Ebook I have throughly enjoyed having a screen this big even though I am kind of unsure about how to hold it at times... I am sure I will get used to it as I go along.

Using the pencil with the iPad is an absolute dream, I probably won't be writing on paper or doing my small paintings on canvas anymore. Glad that I went bigger, and can't wait to see how much this adds to my productivity. I just need to I find the right apps.

I crept on threads like this one and what eventually made me switch was the amount of RAM, the fact that you need the space the really write, and the size they keyboard would be.

I ordered my 12.9 open item from Best Buy for $623 last saturday when they were on sale. I'm not positive I will keep it still but I do really like it. Not loving the size of it in a case but I picked up a Smart Cover and the thickness is more tolerable now.

Right now I'm leaning towards keeping it. But we will see after the 9.7 comes out.

I got mine the 12.9 this week brand new from Amazon with the pencil and Smart Keyboard (thank you prime store card) and absolutely LOVE it. Saw the 9.7 and while I love the true tone screen, I wanted the larger screen, USB 3 and 4 gigs of ram. I really hope iOS 10 brings it a bit closer to a Mac experience, and I would like some more full featured app options and platform support (looking at you Adobe and Squarespace) but overall, it's pretty great and as a Graphic Designer, I find it super super useful, much more so than my old mini.
 
My advice is get the Smart Keyboard and just use it in your lap like you would a laptop but it's a lot more engaging to me. I really get less strain from using it that way than I do holding my mini and it's just something else with the multi tasking. Like there are music apps that run in the background PIP. Macrumors is pretty sweet on 1/3 of the screen. You don't lose anything in landscape either it's really like having two iPads. I admit it's pretty crazy when you get it but if you don't approach it like a laptop or normal tablet but something in between it's really fun. Procreate (drawing) and good notes (searchable handwritten notes) are really great.
 
If you have to finance your iPad that means you need to wait until you save more money.
